Attitudes Of Secondary School Students In Israel Toward The Use Of Living Organisms In The Study Of Biology, Pinchas Tamir, Aliza Hamo
Attitudes Of Secondary School Students In Israel Toward The Use Of Living Organisms In The Study Of Biology, Pinchas Tamir, Aliza Hamo
International Journal for the Study of Animal Problems
The study deals with attitudes and views of 456 Israeli students in grades 7, 9, and 11 regarding the use of living animals in research and biology instruction. It was found that most students are interested in studying live animals through direct observation and experiment and feel that this kind of learning is superior to learning from secondary sources. At the same time, however, most students exhibit concern for and affection toward living organisms in general and higher animals, especially pets and "beneficial" animals, in particular. The need to consider both sides of the issue is highlighted, and practical implications …

A Limnological Investigation Of A Tropical Fresh-Water Ecosystem: The Belize River, Belize, Central America, Victor J. Gonzalez
A Limnological Investigation Of A Tropical Fresh-Water Ecosystem: The Belize River, Belize, Central America, Victor J. Gonzalez
Dissertations
The limnology of the Belize River, from the region of Spanish Lookout to the region of Belize City, was investigated from 1977 through 1979. The investigation was done primarily during the months of May through August, covering the two seasonal changes--wet and dry--that occur in this tropical region. The investigation sought to describe various parameters of the Belize River so as to gain an understanding of this tropical fresh-water ecosystem and to provide basic information needed for the development of management programs.
Water samples were collected from eight stations and analyzed for acidity, alkalinity, carbon dioxide, chloride, sodium chromate, hexavalent …
The Interrelationship Of Leader Self-Actualization And Life Stressors To The Resultant Incidence Of Reported Medical Problems Of Middle Management Educators, John S. Thatcher
The Interrelationship Of Leader Self-Actualization And Life Stressors To The Resultant Incidence Of Reported Medical Problems Of Middle Management Educators, John S. Thatcher
Dissertations
Schools, being a part of the larger social system, have not escaped the increasing pressures evident in our society. The principalship as an important component of the educational process has not enjoyed immunity from this same problem.
Because school principals are individuals, they react differently to life stressors. Some appear to have the ability to handle all stressors without suffering any onset of medical problems. Others appear not to have this immunity and as a result have medical difficulties. Because of this seeming difference and because of a lack of research of this type in education, the relationships between life …
The Existence Of Generalization Abilities In Five Aphasics, Jo Ellen Gilbert
The Existence Of Generalization Abilities In Five Aphasics, Jo Ellen Gilbert
Masters Theses
This study was designed to determine if generalization, the facilitation of performance on untrained items through training of related skills, can be evidenced in the language behavior of an aphasic population. Five aphasic subjects were drawn from a patient population at a Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Michigan. Each subject was presented with 25 unfamiliar pictures utilizing five cueing techniques: whole word repetition, first syllrble cue, sentence completion, written word, and a control of no input. These were then used to elicit verbal responses to the pictures. The subjects were then shown 25 similar pictures, without cues. Statistical analysis showed …

The Ingestion Of Garlic And Its Effect On Cardiovascular Endurance, Thomas G. Blackwelder
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This study was designed to investigate the effectiveness of garlic oil on cardiovascular endurance. The subjects were ten male students enrolled at Loma Linda University, La Sierra Campus in Riverside, California. The subjects exercised to their maximal heart rate while being tested on the treadmill. A pre-test was given to match the subjects equally into the control and experimental groups. The experimental group took garlic oil capsules for four weeks. After two weeks the groups were given an intermediate test and at the end of four weeks a post-test was given.
The data indicated that the experimental group improved in …

Suggestions For Improving The Language Development Of Disabled Secondary Readers, Nancy A. Mavrogenes
Suggestions For Improving The Language Development Of Disabled Secondary Readers, Nancy A. Mavrogenes
Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
As high school teachers of reading and English know, some students in their classrooms are poor in all areas of language. They read on a fourth-grade level; they write and spell so as to obscure most communication; they speak in simple sentences; their listening ability is so low that they can't seem to follow most directions. What can we do to fill in the innumerable gaps in all these areas? It is the purpose of this article to present two ways to improve a student's level of language development: 1) daily exposure to good literature in the original (not adapted …
