The methods of foretelling, planning for future, range from the mythological to the mathematical and now many are confident that some methods developed by economics are sufficiently established to predict future economic events in the course of economic development. In spite of well known fiascos associated with planning mistakes and economic predictions, the need for forecasts and plans has been increasing. One reason for this need is that individual and collective living requires considerable amount of planning over a wide range of activities.
The aim of this study is to examine a well known practice of economic planning, namely, to …

Game Theory And Political Science, Martin Shubik
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
There are several topics in political science to which the application of game theory is prima facie appealing. They are voting, the study of power, diplomacy, negotiation and bargaining behavior, coalition formation among political groups and logrolling. This brief survey is by no means intended to be comprehensive but is intended to serve as a guide to some of the more immediate applications of game theory to political science.
Higher Education Enrollment Projection Model: A Description And Evaluation, David W. Weig
Higher Education Enrollment Projection Model: A Description And Evaluation, David W. Weig
Economics ETDs
With the increasing number of problems impacting higher education today, several efforts have been undertaken at the national, state and institutional levels. All of these reactions to the growing problem situation usually result in increased information requirements. The ability to accurately project student enrollment is a requisite to proper planning, budgeting and management of higher education. The large growth rate of the 1960's has ceased and the current outlook for the 1980's is for slight enrollment declines. This situation makes the 1970's a most sensitive time for projecting enrollments. It is during these transitory times that many procedures and methods …

Policy Choices In An Open Economy: Some Dynamic Considerations, Sven W. Arndt
Policy Choices In An Open Economy: Some Dynamic Considerations, Sven W. Arndt
CMC Faculty Publications and Research
Decision rules for stabilization policy in an open economy are examined under alternative specifications of the balance of payments. In particular, distinction between interest-sensitive debt capital and equity capital which responds to an activity variable alters the comparative static properties of instrument assignment. Various aspects of dynamic adjustment are further investigated in a context in which time is endogenous and in which the decision process minimizes a criterion function. It is shown that traditional one-to-one pairing of targets and controls may be inferior to assignment of clusters of instruments to some targets for specified time intervals.
