Environmental Carcinogenesis: An Economic Analysis Of Risk, Reza Pazand
Environmental Carcinogenesis: An Economic Analysis Of Risk, Reza Pazand
Economics ETDs
It is universally suggested that cancer is suspected of being environmentally induced. The economic risk associated with exposure to suspected environmental carcinogens is not yet analyzed. Although several researchers have estimated the health damages of certain pollutants, an appropriate methodology to estimate the economic damages of suspected carcinogens is not yet developed.
The theoretical model developed in this dissertation analyzes the economic risk of exposure to suspected environmental carcinogens. The important conclusion drawn from the theoretical model is that exposure to environmental carcinogens at earlier stages of life should be optimally avoided. The theoretical model provides a basis for the …
Liberalized Agricultural Trade -- At The Multilateral Trade Negotiations, Bilaterally Or Not At All!, Clayton K. Yeutter
Liberalized Agricultural Trade -- At The Multilateral Trade Negotiations, Bilaterally Or Not At All!, Clayton K. Yeutter
Clayton K. Yeutter, United States Secretary of Agriculture: Papers
For most of the 20th century, much of the world has fretted about agricultural surpluses. This has been particularly true of the major producing nations, with the United States being in the forefront. Only a decade ago, our "ever normal granaries" were bursting at their steel seams, and we were immersed in another agonizing appraisal of U.S. farm policy.
Then the shock came! In 1972 everything went wrong on the production front droughts, early frosts, monsoon problems, even the fish meal supply diminished because of an uncooperative ocean current. We suddenly realized that man was not quite as omniscient as …

Expatriate Business And The African Response In Ghana: 1886-1939, Rhoda E. Howard-Hassmann
Expatriate Business And The African Response In Ghana: 1886-1939, Rhoda E. Howard-Hassmann
Political Science Faculty Publications
This thesis discusses the integration of' colonial Ghana into the world trading network between 1886 and 1939. It attempts to explain the underdevelopment of Ghana's economy as a result of her subjection to a system of economic and political imperialism. Ghana's contact with Britain resulted in a situation in which, although her trade economy "developed," her economic potential, as well as the potential for development of her trading and entrepreneurial classes, was thwarted. While three groups, namely the expatriate businessmen, the expatriate Government, and the African elite, interacted in the setting of economic policies, generally speaking the policies were set …

The Impact Of Oil Shale Development On The Uintah School District, Dominica Onyesonam Alozie
The Impact Of Oil Shale Development On The Uintah School District, Dominica Onyesonam Alozie
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The aim of this study is to estimate the future school enrollment in the Uintah School District that results from oil shale development. Future need for classrooms and teachers is also projected, and costs to the school district for providing this need are estimated.
Yearly revenue from the oil shale plant and from new residential buildings due to the plant is also estimated. The annual costs and revenues are compared and it is observed that the costs exceed the revenue during the first five years. The deficit can be reduced, however, if stagger sessions are used to provide needed classrooms …
Snowmobiling In Utah: An Analysis Of Consumer Characteristics, Site Quality, And Carrying Capacity, Richard A. Haws
Snowmobiling In Utah: An Analysis Of Consumer Characteristics, Site Quality, And Carrying Capacity, Richard A. Haws
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A consumer characteristic profile of the snowmobile owners in Utah was compiled and compared to the general population in Utah and the United States. Other statistics were compiled which included user preferences of snowmobiling sites and machine characteristics.
Data were collected by a mail survey of snowmobilers during the 1974-75 snowmobiling season. Approximately 315 questionnaires were analyzed. Additional data were collected from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.
Total economic rent values were estimated for 58 sites in Utah. These values were then separated into location and quality values. This was done by reallocating trips to sites by means …
Defining Efficient Water Resource Management In The Weber Drainage Basin, Utah, Keith D. Wilde
Defining Efficient Water Resource Management In The Weber Drainage Basin, Utah, Keith D. Wilde
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is a state institution, but its primary function is collecting money for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, to pay for the Weber Basin Project. Different classes of water users pay markedly different fees for identical Project services. More than half of the water developed by the Project is not used consumptively, yet supply facilities continue to be built in the Basin because they are less expensive to their owners than prices charged for the underused capacity of the Project. Paradoxically, some Basin residents are bitterly resentful of both the District and the Bureau, claiming …

The Impact Of The Prototype Oil Shale Development On Agricultural And Municipal Water Supplies In The Uintah Basin, Roger Orson Tew
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
In this paper the institutional factors affecting water distribution in the Upper Colorado River Basin in general and the Uintah Basin are presented. The historical development of the appropriation doctrine of water allocation is outlined and Utah water policy is examined. These institutional factors are analyzed in light of the prototype oil shale development in the Uintah Basin and potential impact on the area's agricultural sector. Oil shale water estimates are compared with Uintah Basin water availability and examined with regard to population projections and municipal water use. Lastly, Utah water policy and the appropriation doctrine are viewed as restraints …
