Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Of Adjuvant Osimertinib In Resected Egfr-Mutated Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, Supitchaya Changsatja

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Lung cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. One-third of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients are diagnosed in resectable stage, for which curative surgery is the cornerstone of treatment. Adjuvant osimertinib, a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR TKI), was shown to significantly reduce recurrence and prolong survival for completely resected EGFR-mutated NSCLC. We performed a cost-effectiveness analysis of adjuvant osimertinib compared to placebo in patients with resected stage IB to IIIA EGFR-mutated NSCLC using Thailand’s societal perspective. A Markov model estimated the lifetime costs and health benefits of …

Social Welfare Functions And Health Policy: A New Approach, Matthew D. Adler Jan 2024

Social Welfare Functions And Health Policy: A New Approach, Matthew D. Adler

Faculty Scholarship

The social welfare function (SWF) framework converts the possible outcomes of governmental policy choice into vectors (lists) of interpersonally comparable well-being numbers, measuring the lifetime well-being of each individual in the population of interest. The SWF proper is a rule for ranking these vectors. The utilitarian SWF adds up well-being numbers. A prioritarian SWF adds up well-being numbers plugged into a strictly increasing and strictly concave transformation function. Governmental policies are conceptualized as probability distributions over well-being vectors. A recent literature applies the SWF framework to health policy. This article first provides a brief overview of the SWF framework and …

Using a database of all available lobbying expenditures in the U.S. states ranging up to 25  years, the paper shows interest group lobbying increases substantially during the budgeting process, and the budgeting process is unlike other issues lobbyists face. Spikes in lobbying during budgeting are driven primarily by business groups, and these business groups account for most of the changes on the margin in lobbying activity. Moreover, even groups relatively unaffected by budgets lobby more intensely during legislative budgeting, consistent …
