Analysis Of The Influence Of Cryptocurrency Regulation On Levels Of Financial Literacy, Kieran C. Yuen
Dissertations and Theses
Using data collected by the National Financial Capability Study (NFCS), a survey by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), this paper investigates the influence of passage of cryptocurrency regulation in U.S. states on levels of financial literacy. Results indicate that living in a state where cryptocurrency regulation was signed into law, a decrease was observed in the level of financial literacy. This finding supports the growing literature on factors that affect levels of financial literacy using a novel exogenous variable, cryptocurrency regulation.
Effect Of Cash Transfer On Household Fertility Choice And Children's Human Capital Accumulation In Uganda, Shaila Ahmed
Effect Of Cash Transfer On Household Fertility Choice And Children's Human Capital Accumulation In Uganda, Shaila Ahmed
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
This analysis examines the effects of conditional and unconditional cash transfer on household fertility decisions and other indicators of human capital accumulation. To test my hypotheses, I rely on the UCT and CCT sub-arms of the Cash-Plus Program recently implemented in Uganda. The design of the Cash-Plus Program follows randomized control trials for intervention. My empirical findings show that the Cash-Plus Program have no discernible impact on beneficiary households' pregnancy incidence. The only effect on the primary outcomes of interest is a marginally significant effect for household heads aged 25 to 49, who received unconditional treatments. The results also show …

Stakeholders Engagement Analysis : A Case Study Of Oceanfront Beach Resort, Ploy Atthapornpisarn
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The Thai tourism sector which is a major contributor to Thailand’s economy was strongly affected by the spread of covid-19. Once the sector was impacted by the pandemic restrictions, obviously a decrease in customers was presented. Even though there are the stimulus packages from the government regulators with an intention to boost up the tourism sector and many hotels change their business to be catering or partner with the hospital and turn their business to be a quarantine place. Many hotels still need to reduce their operation or even shut down to secure the cash flow. All stakeholders of hotel …

A Study Of The Impact Of Financial Literacy And Financial Development On Peer-To-Peer Lending In Developed And Developing Countries, Joffre Tan Zheng Hong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study seeks to examine how financial literacy and financial development, specifically financial access, financial depth, and financial efficiency affect the expansion of peer-to-peer (P2P) lending using a sample of 40 economies with data obtained in 2020. The findings reveal financial literacy and financial efficiency positively affect the expansion of P2P lending, while financial depth negatively correlates with the expansion of P2P lending. Additionally, financial literacy contributes significantly to the expansion of P2P lending in developing economies, but not in developed economies. This finding suggests that financial literacy does not factor significantly into the expansion of P2P lending in developed …

The research analyzed the influence of different household characteristics on household debt, including mortgage debt. Using data from Thailand’s Household Socio-Economic Survey in 2019 and 2021, the study implemented a logit model to identify household characteristics with significant impact on household debt. By analyzing data from two different periods that varied in social and economic contexts, the study highlighted critical factors that influenced household debt demand. The datasets were divided into three categories according to household work status. The categories include households with at least one public sector worker, households with no public sector workers but at least one private …

Sustainable Strategies For Mass Rapid Transit Ppps, Sock Yong Phang, Bin Chye Tan
Research Collection School Of Economics
Mass rapid transit (MRT) PPPs have proliferated in the past two decades. This chapter provides a framework to categorise and understand alternative PPP designs. As MRT systems are inherently large, unprofitable and risky projects, PPP design is critical to project success and sustainability. We study the experiences of MRT PPPs in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Beijing to understand factors underlying success and failure and to arrive at policy recommendations for PPPs. Policymakers need to have additional governance improvement and risk mitigation measures in place when tied supply chains are utilised. Hong Kong’s experience illustrates that ‘Rail plus Property’ strategy …

The U.S. Coal Industry: Market Structure & Implications, Sara Elizabeth Guffey
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The U.S. coal mining industry was once a booming industry which created and defined communities, particularly in Appalachia. The industry has, however, transformed significantly in the last couple of decades with the passage of environmental policies, with competition from the Shale Revolution, from changes in company ownership, and from mine safety regulation. Overall, the coal industry during this time has experienced a massive decline in production and employment. This dissertation is composed of three papers that investigate these mechanisms and their role in understanding market structure, coal transactions and prices, and mine safety outcomes. Motivated by the shutdowns of U.S. …

Occupational regulation affects many people across many aspects of life. This dissertation research investigates the consequences of occupational regulation across three different areas of study: economic history, urban and regional economics, and health policy.
The first chapter investigates the historic licensing of emigrant agents. In the period following the US Civil War, firms wished to capitalize on the availability of African American labor. To do so they hired emigrant agents, also known as labor agents, to hire and help with the migration of individuals from the South. Faced with out-migration at the hands of the labor force, some southern states …

Scientific reports of Bukhara State University
Introduction. China is located in Central and East Asia. The vast territory of the state, covering the highest mountainous regions, vast deserts and coastal plains, determines the variety of natural conditions for tourism, as well as the border neighborhood with a large number of countries. China's seaside location is extremely advantageous in terms of tourism. At present, through the seas, China provides access to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and the whole world. The sea and coastal areas are used to organize coastal tourism. Increasingly, China's maritime waters and ports are used for cruise tourism. China has an advantageous …

The Potential Impacts Of Climate Change On Avitourism To Islands: The Example Of Fair Isle, Scotland, Richard W. Butler Professor
The Potential Impacts Of Climate Change On Avitourism To Islands: The Example Of Fair Isle, Scotland, Richard W. Butler Professor
International Journal of Islands Research
This paper discusses the potential impact of climate change upon a specific form of tourism, avitourism (birdwatching), and the resulting effects upon islands dependent upon this form of tourism. Bird populations, distributions and migratory patterns are all vulnerable to the impacts of global warming, extreme weather events and changes in the marine environment, as are the islands which provide their habitat. Avitourism is a lucrative and non-consumptive form of tourism that is of major importance to some small islands, particularly those that have unique indigenous breeding species and/or are visited by migrating species on a regular basis. A number of …

Sons Of Disobedience And Their Machines: How Sin And Anthropology Can Inform Evangelical Thought About Ai, Gregory S. Mckenzie
Sons Of Disobedience And Their Machines: How Sin And Anthropology Can Inform Evangelical Thought About Ai, Gregory S. Mckenzie
Liberty Theological Review
The purpose of this paper is to further discussion about artificial intelligence by examining AI from the perspective of the doctrine of sin. As such, philosophy of mind and theological anthropology, specifically, what it means to be human, the effects of sin, and the consequent social ramifications of AI drive the analysis of this paper. Accordingly, the conclusions of the analysis are that the depravity of fallen humanity is cause for concern in the very programming of AI and serves as a corrupted foundation for artificial machine cognition. Given the fallen nature of human thought, and therefore, fallen AI thought, …

Special Allocation Fund And Poverty Rate In Indonesia, Danesta Febianto Nugroho, Bayu Rhamadani Wicaksono, Muhammad R. Reynaldi
Economics and Finance in Indonesia
The Special Allocation Fund is distributed to specific areas to aid them in funding special regional activities that follow national interests. Giving regional government's broad autonomy is meant to hasten the realization of social welfare, as seen by reducing poverty. This study aims to examine the influence of the Special Allocation Fund for education, health, and infrastructure on the poverty rate in Indonesia, using the Poverty Gap Index (P1) as a proxy for the poverty rate. The study employed annual data from 33 Indonesian provinces from 2015 to 2018 and panel data regression analysis utilizing the Fixed Effects Model (FEM). …
Interstate 11: The Road To Prosperity In Nevada, Arthur C. Nelson
Interstate 11: The Road To Prosperity In Nevada, Arthur C. Nelson
Policy Briefs and Reports
Interstate 11 (I-11) offers Nevada a unique opportunity to advance the economic development prospects of one of the state’s most economically challenged areas: Elko and eastern Nevada. Although the state used a qualitative system to choose a western route for I-11, this process may not have considered fully the costs of extending I-11 to Canada in a cost-effective manner or in a manner consistent with I-11 purposes, especially avoiding congested areas. This briefing report reviews the history and purposes of I-11; summarizes the I-11 route options; considers how I-11 might extend to Canada in a way that is consistent with …

Isolated States Of America: The Impact Of State Borders On Mobility And Regional Labor Market Adjustments, Riley Wilson
Isolated States Of America: The Impact Of State Borders On Mobility And Regional Labor Market Adjustments, Riley Wilson
Upjohn Institute Working Papers
I document a new empirical pattern of internal mobility in the United States. Namely, county-to-county migration and commuting drop off discretely at state borders. People are three times as likely to move to a county 15 miles away, but in the same state, than to move to an equally distant county in a different state. These gaps remain even among neighboring counties or counties in the same commuting zone. This pattern is not explained by differences in county characteristics, is not driven by any particular demographic group, and is not explained by pecuniary costs such as differences in state occupational …
