An Investigation Of Changing Concerns Toward Instructional Computer Use During Student Teaching, Roderick E. Winters Jan 1995

An Investigation Of Changing Concerns Toward Instructional Computer Use During Student Teaching, Roderick E. Winters

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

This study investigated hypothesized change in the concerns of student teachers toward instructional computer use during an eight week student teaching experience. In Phase 1, information concerning seven variables which have the potential to influence teacher computer utilization was collected from student teachers and their cooperating teachers. In addition, seven dimensions of concern toward employment of instructional computer use were examined by administering the Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ) before and after the student teaching experience.

Multiple regression analysis indicated that change in only one of the seven stages of concern (concerns toward collaboration) could be predicted by any of …

Connecting Productive Schools And Workplaces For A Knowledge Society, Byrd L. Jones, Robert W. Maloy Jun 1994

Connecting Productive Schools And Workplaces For A Knowledge Society, Byrd L. Jones, Robert W. Maloy

New England Journal of Public Policy

As American education struggles to achieve new competencies for an emerging information age, popular reforms remain locked in industrial-era metaphors. Testing for basic skills, teacher professionalism, and school-business collaboration assumes that schooling prepares workers with skills for predictable roles. Meanwhile, computers and related technologies make possible low-cost information that is transforming learning and jobs. Hierarchical organizational structures that subordinated most employees have given way to flatter, flexible teams. Quasi-autonomous decision making by knowledgeable professionals extends to more and more workers. When businesses simply offer schools a few extra resources, they stunt interactive partnerships that enable youth and business cultures to …

After reviewing the social and legal background of inclusion, Henderson describes specific strategies for designing and implementing successful programs. He outlines organizational change, curriculum and instruction modification, and school culture transformation.

The Impact Of Site-Based Management On Perceived Roles Of Superintendents, Board Chairpersons, Principals And Selected Central Office Personnel In Tennessee School Systems, Narvia D. Haywood Dec 1992

The Impact Of Site-Based Management On Perceived Roles Of Superintendents, Board Chairpersons, Principals And Selected Central Office Personnel In Tennessee School Systems, Narvia D. Haywood

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The introduction of site-based management has had an impact on the operation of school systems in Tennessee; however no one seems to know for certain what that impact was. Findings from this study revealed that there is a basic understanding of the impact of site-based management as perceived by superintendents, board chairpersons, principals, personnel, budget, curriculum, and staff development administrators. Findings also revealed that central office staff and principals, for the most part, perceive that the superintendents and board chairpersons were supportive of site-based management programs. One hundred and eighty-one educators, including board chairpersons, responded to a fifty-four item questionnaire. …

Integrated Thematic Instruction : A Descriptive Case Study Of Its Adaptation And Implementation, Premalatha Gaikwad

Dissertations

The purpose of the study was to describe the operational form of the innovation--Integrated Thematic Instruction within the context of its implementation.

An embedded single case study design was used to carry out this qualitative study, with Integrated Thematic Instruction (ITI) as the unit of the case study. The questions that guided the study were: What does ITI look like when implemented by the teacher? What are the contextual elements of implementation of this program? What variations are found in the implementation of this innovation by different teachers?

A review of related literature revealed the historical, philosophical, and theoretical underpinnings …

Assessment Of The Extent Of Agreement On The Implementation Of Instructional Design Principles Among Corporate Training And Development Experts, Elba C. Grovdahl

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A sample of corporate instructional designers and professors of instructional design completed the "Corporate Instructional Design Scale." The data yielded information on the extent of agreement that descriptive statements identified conventionally and systematically designed instruction.

Descriptive and asymmetric log linear (statistical) analyses were conducted. In the asymmetric log linear analyses, the extent of agreement was used as the dependent variable. The three independent variables with three levels each were Program type (conventionally designed instruction, both conventionally and systematically designed instruction, and systematically designed instruction), Instructional component (instructional intents, instructional strategies, and instructional assessments), and Trainer type (professional trainers in manufacturing, …

The Relationship That Teachers' Concerns And Their Perceptions Of Organizational Climate Have With Innovation Maintenance, Frederic Wayne De Vall Aug 1983

The Relationship That Teachers' Concerns And Their Perceptions Of Organizational Climate Have With Innovation Maintenance, Frederic Wayne De Vall

Dissertations

The main purpose of this study was to determine what some of the factors are that have an affect upon the maintenance of an innovation. Many educational change models focus upon the initiation and implementation of educational innovations in schools. This study tested some of the factors identified, from the literature review as affecting innovation maintenance, upon one innovation which is being used by teachers in several school districts. The first factor centered upon the concerns teachers have about an innovation they use in their classrooms. The second factor centered upon teachers' perceptions of the organizational climate that exists which …

Theories Of Piaget, Who Died This Month, Inspire Growing Band Of U.S. Professors, Robert L. Jacobson Nov 1982

Theories Of Piaget, Who Died This Month, Inspire Growing Band Of U.S. Professors, Robert L. Jacobson

ADAPT Program: Essays

The death of Jean Piaget this month at the age of 84 came at a time when the Swiss psychologist's theories of cognitive development were inspiring a small but growing number of innovative instructional programs in American colleges and universities. Most were started within the past few years and have yet to produce much hard evidence of their effectiveness. But participating faculty members say they are excited about what has been happening in their classrooms.

"Piagetian-based instruction," they say, offers many potential advantages over traditional methods: It facilitates communication, improves students' reasoning ability and academic achievement, boosts their self-confidence and …

Application For A Change Agent Strategy In Dissemination Of An Australian Innovation, Barry J. Fraser, David L. Smith Jan 1980

Application For A Change Agent Strategy In Dissemination Of An Australian Innovation, Barry J. Fraser, David L. Smith

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

Several excellent reviews of the general education change and innovation literature exist and this literature indicates that a widely adopted strategy for planned development and dissemination of curriculum innovations has been the Research, Development and Diffusion (RD&D) model. This empirical-rational strategy involves the initial development of teacher-proof curriculum packages followed by mass dissemination which assumes that teachers' adaptation and translation problems have been largely anticipated and accommodated. The RD&D strategy, however, has recently provoked increasing skepticism because teachers and schools often have failed to adopt new curriculum materials, to implement them in ways envisaged by the developers, or to continue …

An Individualized Program For The Learning Resource Center, Marian Woyna Aug 1979

An Individualized Program For The Learning Resource Center, Marian Woyna

Theses

This project outlines the development and implementation of an individualized program for the Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Roach School. Initiated in response to organizational shifts—including the adoption of the Individually Guided Education (I.G.E.) model, restructuring due to desegregation, and expanded special education services—the program addresses the growing need for differentiated learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Marian Woyna’s work emphasizes a shift from a passive LRC role to an active, instructional one, supporting students across a range of academic abilities and personal interests. Drawing on the theories of confluent education and the Prester Theory of brain function, the …

Nongraded Education: A Modified Plan For Implementation In The Elementary School, Betty S. Cowan Jan 1974

Nongraded Education: A Modified Plan For Implementation In The Elementary School, Betty S. Cowan

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Nongraded education differs theoretically from graded education in administrative and curricular design. The nongraded program responds to individual abilities and achievement, and groups accordingly. The graded school is organized on the basis of age and group expectation, and prescribes curriculum which equates with grade level requirements rather than ability. This project presents selected details of both graded and nongraded education and a modified plan for implementation of a nongraded program.
