A Study Of The Relationship Of Class Size And Student Achievement On The Michigan Educational Assessment Program Fourth Grade Test, Ralph Burde
Dissertations
In this study the relationship and differences in student achievement and class size were investigated. The population of the study was the 111,199 students who completed the fall 1988 Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP, Michigan State Board of Education, 1988) fourth grade test. The MEAP is a criterion referenced test and is the state of Michigan's only achievement test.
The independent variable of the study was class size. The dependent variables of the study were student achievement as measured by the students' fall 1988 MEAP reading, mathematics, and combined reading and mathematics test scores. The hypothesis of the study, supported …

An Analysis Of The Form And Content Of History Curriculum For Secondary Schools In The English-Speaking Caribbean, Ruby Nerissa Hutchinson
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to assess the form and content of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) history curriculum to see to what extent it represents the stance of self-determination. This is reflected in the movement away from the effects of colonization in the Englishspeaking Caribbean countries towards greater political and institutional independence. One history curriculum is examined because of the need for detailed examination of content of the document and because that history curriculum best represents the trend of curriculum development in the region. Curriculum displays the substantial impact educational development is having in the region. The study …

Omaha Language Preservation In The Macy, Nebraska Public School, Catherine Rudin
Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Faculty Publications
A native language renewal program at the Macy, Nebraska Public School is described that is designed to preserve Omaha, a native American Indian language that is only a generation away from extinction. At the time of this research, only about 100 fluent Omaha speakers lived on the Omaha Reservation in Nebraska. The language and culture program, instituted in 1970, has employed various instruction techniques and methodologies, including immersion, memorization of words and phrases, and publication of student-authored stories in English and Omaha. The program has suffered from a lack of consistency; frequent changes in funding, personnel, and curriculum; and a …

G89-948 Safe Operation Of Compact Tractors, Robert D. Grisso, Rollin Schnieder
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Follow these safety tips and maintenance procedures for checking, servicing and operating compact tractors to extend their life and reduce breakdowns and accidents.
Lawn and turf maintenance is easier because of modern compact tractors, but carelessness can spell trouble.
Most tractors used in grounds care can be classified into three size groups: 1) riding lawn mowers (3 to 8 horsepower) which are fitted with a mower and usually do not have other equipment or attachments that could be mounted separately; 2) lawn and garden or compact tractors (7 to 40 horsepower) that can be mounted with a variety of tools …

Twenty-five years in the life of a university is a short period of time. Yet, in its first twenty-five years, Nova University has been able to respond to major changes in American society. After Sputnik was launched in 1957, our government and our educational system placed a high priority on science and technology. President Kennedy declared that we would place a man on the moon within a decade.
Nova University of Advanced Technology was conceived in response to the national agenda. In the mid-1960s, President Johnson launched the Great Society, which began to take effect in the late 1960s …
