Nexus Literary Journal
Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

A Journey Inward : Initiation In Katherine Anne Porter's Miranda Stories, Anne Lobdell

Tracing the initiation motif in Katharine Anne Porter's "Miranda stories" uncovers her maturing protagonist's search for order and personal truth. Miranda's inward journey ultimately leads not to nihilism and despair, as some critics suggest, but to an honest and courageous affirmation of the independent spirit.
Porter's fiction involving Miranda and her family background reveal varying stages of this maturing that, together with parallel theories of initiation, fall into critic Mordecai Marcus' paradigm of initiation types. The "tentative" initiation stories only brush the child Miranda's awareness and deal primarily with the external world. They include "The Circus," marking an "emotional" initiation …

Sloan-Wyatt, her children Morton Sloan Wyatt-Davis, Joseph Willard Wyatt, and Charles Russell Wyatt (Jr), her brother Charles Wortham Sloan, and her parents Capt. This curriculum project has developed gradually over the past fourteen years during which time I have been teaching in the public elementary schools. I have always loved poetry; therefore it seemed natural to make the reading of poetry a standard part of my curriculum even in my first years of teaching.
