This memoir explores my relationships with my father, my brother and my children. My dad was my baseball coach, football coach, history tutor. But he drank too much. At times, he became violent. My mom left him, and he went into years of drunken insanity.

As teenagers, my brother, Craig, and I responded to the disintegration of our family by embracing life on the street. Over the next four years, we made a series of bad decisions that led us deeper into drugs and violence, but we stuck together. Craig's violent behavior increased and began to scare even me, but …

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

Self-described paid-storyteller and Pulitzer-Prize-winning-narrative-journalist, Rick Bragg has used the storytelling techniques he learned from his people to write two best-selling memoirs that redefine the boundaries of the genres of memoir and creative nonfiction. An integrated curriculum is an instructional approach that connects the disciplines to an underlying theme or topic. Immersing students in an integrated-thematic unit provides the backdrop for experiences to occur across the disciplines.
