Professor Mao Taitian and colleagues argues elucidates the adaptation logic, practical pathways, and prerequisites of intelligent agents to empower the high-quality development of scientific information. Professor Bao Yulai and colleagues advocate that integrating the perceptual elasticity of domain-specific large models with the cognitive rigidity of ontology can establish a new paradigm for intelligence services in complex scenarios. The synergy between the two can not only expand the theoretical boundaries of information science and serve national strategies, but also advance intelligence services from assisted analysis to intelligent decision-making. Professor Wei Jianxiang and colleagues point out that generative artificial intelligence has triggered …
Security Architecture Decision Framework For Endpoint Protection In Resource-Constrained K-12 Environments, Jason Folker
Security Architecture Decision Framework For Endpoint Protection In Resource-Constrained K-12 Environments, Jason Folker
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
K-12 educational institutions face an ongoing challenge in protecting endpoints when budgets and staffing prevent the implementation of standard security best practices. Technology directors routinely make difficult decisions about administrative rights, software controls, and security tooling, but they lack frameworks designed for the constraints and priorities specific to educational environments. This paper develops a security architecture decision framework tailored for K-12 endpoint protection. The framework integrates five weighting dimensions to help technology directors evaluate competing architectural choices. These dimensions include educational impact, security risk reduction, resource requirements, compliance obligations, and operational feasibility. The framework creates structured documentation that helps decision-makers …
Cooperative Evolution For Discovering Scalable Spiking Neural Network Architectures, Catherine C. Rodriquez
Cooperative Evolution For Discovering Scalable Spiking Neural Network Architectures, Catherine C. Rodriquez
LSU Master's Theses
SNNs are a foundational model in neuromorphic computing, where efficient architectures must be discovered for a wide range of applications. Evolutionary methods, such as EONS, offer a flexible approach to this search but become increasingly difficult to scale as task complexity grows due to the rapidly expanding combined topology–parameter search space and associated memory demands. To address this challenge, we propose a co-evolutionary ensemble framework in which a population of candidate SNNs is evolved with fitness defined by each network’s marginal contribution to group performance. Grounded in cooperative game theory and difference evaluation functions from multiagent systems, this formulation provides …

Toward Intelligent Machines: Conscious Learning And Hardware-Accelerated Ai, Pavia Bera
Toward Intelligent Machines: Conscious Learning And Hardware-Accelerated Ai, Pavia Bera
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Artificial intelligence systems excel at narrow, well-defined tasks but remain brittle at theboundaries of their training distributions: they cannot quantify uncertainty, adapt continuously to non-stationary data, or operate efficiently on energy-constrained hardware. This dissertation addresses these limitations through four coordinated contributions spanning probabilistic learning algorithms, biologically inspired temporal memory, cross-entity warning propagation via distributed associative memory, and spintronic processing-in-memory.
The first contribution introduces Boosted Bayesian Neural Networks (BBNNs), which extend standard mean-field variational inference by iteratively constructing a mixture posterior through Boosting Variational Inference. On five clinical medical classification datasets, BBNNs achieve superior uncertainty calibration—lower Negative Log-Likelihood and Expected Calibration …
Heterogeneous Graph-Augmented Contrastive Learning For Extreme Multi-Class Fiqh Classification, Ali A. Jalil
Heterogeneous Graph-Augmented Contrastive Learning For Extreme Multi-Class Fiqh Classification, Ali A. Jalil
Al-Bahir
- Background/Introduction: Fine-grained text classification in the field of Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) is difficult because of the structural interdependence of the legal concepts and the extremely multi-class long-tail data distribution (667 classes with 5,979 samples, 52.2% of which contain less than 5 samples). The main problem with traditional flat classifiers is that they assume that target classes are independent and orthogonal output neurons which discards very important relational semantics.
- Objectives: This paper seeks to remediate this extreme imbalance and maintain structural taxonomy by modeling the structural space of classification label space itself as an object to be learned, while giving a …

Despite substantial excitement around the use of AI in law, little information exists on the performance and associated risks of the domain’s widely marketed tools. Recent work, for instance, has demonstrated the significant potential for “hallucinations” — wherein models make up facts, law, and precedent — leading Chief Justice Roberts to spotlight this risk in his annual report on the judiciary. We argue that there is a need for public AI benchmarking in law. First, relative to other AI application domains, the legal AI ecosystem lacks legibility — there is little information about the design and performance of many commercial …

Developers use logging statements to create logs that document system behavior and aid in software maintenance. As such, high-quality logging is essential for effective maintenance; however, manual logging often leads to errors and inconsistency. Recent methods emphasize using large language models (LLMs) for automated logging statement generation, but these present privacy and resource issues, hindering their suitability for enterprise use. This paper presents the first large-scale empirical study evaluating small open-source language models (SOLMs) for automated logging statement generation. We evaluate four prominent SOLMs using various prompt strategies and parameter-efficient fine-tuning techniques, such as Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation …

Android applications (i.e., apps) are indispensable nowadays and are getting bigger and bigger with an increasing number offunctionalities. To understand how to access functionalities in an app, prior studies proposed tools to model the transitionsbetween functionalities with the activity transition graph (ATG). ATG is an important data structure and has been used forvarious Android app analyses, including app design, understanding, and testing. However, there is no benchmarking work onATG generation. It is still unclear whether the transitions identified by tools are correct and how many transitions are missed. To fill this gap, we manually identified all transitions in 98 applications to …

Constrained Assortment Optimization Under The Mixed-Logit Model, Hoang Giang Pham, Tien Mai
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we study the assortment optimization problem under the mixed-logit customer choice model. While assortment optimization has been a central topic in revenue management for decades, the mixed-logit model is widely regarded as one of the most general and flexible frameworks for modeling and predicting customer purchasing behavior. The assortment optimization problem is known to be NP-hard to be approximated to any constant factor, even in the unconstrained case. To address this challenge, we first explore the submodularity properties of a simplified version of the objective function to derive novel semi-constant factor approximation solutions for assortment problems under …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In-home spatiotemporal data, such as the movement trajectory data and the spatial time series data, contains potential predictive utility for detection of geriatric conditions including Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), frailty, and cognitive frailty. However, few have explored spatiotemporal learning models for learning and fusion of such disparate spatiotemporal data, owing to the lack of a generalized machine learning model that can jointly model these different spatiotemporal data types. This work reports a multimodal spatiotemporal machine learning model based on a class of self-organizing neural networks that can integrate different spatiotemporal data types for MCI detection. Specifically, Episodic Memory Adaptive Resonance …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly deployed in safety-critical applications such as logistics, surveillance, disaster response, and urban air mobility. While their autonomy enables powerful capabilities, it also introduces vulnerabilities due to hardware faults, software defects, communication failures, and adversarial interference. This survey presents a comprehensive review of research studies closely related to UAV anomalies published between 2015 and 2025, covering 111 papers from academic and industrial sources. We introduce a unified five-pillar taxonomy—anomaly generation, prevention, detection, recovery, and analysis—that organizes existing work across the full anomaly management lifecycle. In contrast to prior surveys that focus primarily on detection algorithms, …

Co-Matching: Towards Human–Model Collaborative Legal Case Matching, Chen Huang, Xinwei Yang, Yang Deng, Wenqiang Lei, Jiancheng Lv, Tat-Seng Chua
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Recent efforts have aimed to improve AI models in legal case matching by integrating legal domain knowledge. However, successful legal case matching requires the tacit knowledge of legal practitioners, which is difficult to verbalize and encode into models. This emphasizes the crucial role of involving legal practitioners in high-stakes legal case matching. To address this, we propose a collaborative matching framework called Co-Matching, which encourages both the model and the legal practitioner to participate in the matching process, integrating tacit knowledge. Unlike existing methods that rely solely on the model, Co-Matching allows both the legal practitioner and the model to …

New Algorithms For Fully-Dynamic K-Center With Outliers, Junyu Huang, Zhize Li, Zhen Zhang, Xujia Li, Jianxin Wang, Qilong Feng
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we study the fully dynamic k-center with outliers problem, where points are inserted and deleted over time and the goal is to maintain an approximate clustering while discarding up to z outliers. Existing algorithms typically rely on radius guessing to maintain cluster representations, leading to update and query times that depend explicitly on the aspect ratio Δ. We propose a layered-sampling framework that avoids radius guessing by maintaining a hierarchy of sampled structures, which can separate most inliers from potential outliers and refine the remaining uncertain points. The resulting algorithm achieves Õ(k²/ε⁴) update and query time independent …
A Machine-Learning-Based Systematic Framework For Modeling Compression And Recompression Indices For Florida Soils, Michael Morales
A Machine-Learning-Based Systematic Framework For Modeling Compression And Recompression Indices For Florida Soils, Michael Morales
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
This thesis develops a machine-learning framework for estimating the compression index and the recompression index of Florida soils from routinely measured index properties, and reports two studies that build it. Consolidation settlement design requires both indices, and both are obtained from the incremental-loading oedometer test, which occupies a specimen for one to two weeks; the index tests that accompany it are complete within hours. Empirical correlations have filled that interval since the 1950s, but their coefficients are calibrated on specific soil populations and transfer poorly between regions. The first study analyzes 376 consolidation tests compiled for the Florida Department of …

Research On Temporal Action Localization Methods For Cross-Modal Understanding, Jinwei Li, Xiaoyang Liu, Rusheng Ju
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To address the problems of insufficient localization accuracy and high model complexity in the temporal action localization (TAL) task for video-text cross-modal understanding, an anchor-free action transformer (AFAT) model was proposed. Based on the anchor-free framework, the local self-attention mechanism of Transformer was introduced to enhance the global modeling capability of temporal features. A multi-scale feature pyramid structure was combined to strengthen the representation of actions with different durations, and a lightweight predictor was adopted to reduce computational redundancy. Experimental results show that the average precision of this model on the THUMOS14 dataset is significantly improved compared with the …

Towards Understanding Users' Theory Of Recommender Systems, Mohammed Muheeb Faizan Ghori
Theses and Dissertations from DePaul University
Recommender systems have become deeply embedded in digital platforms such as streaming services, social media, and e-commerce applications, shaping how users discover information, consume content, and interact with online environments. Despite their widespread adoption, these systems are frequently perceived as opaque ‘black boxes’, leaving users uncertain about how recommendations are generated, why certain content is prioritized, and whether their interactions meaningfully influence recommendation outcomes. Existing research at the intersection of recommender systems and human–computer interaction has largely focused on improving transparency, explainability, and recommendation quality from a system-centered perspective. However, limited research has examined how users conceptualize recommender systems and …

Resilience Modeling Method For Combat System-Of-Systems Based On Hypernetwork And Game Theory, Yuxian Duan, Hanqiang Deng, Jiarui Zhang, Jian Huang, Shijia Zhang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In view of the difficulties in dynamic reconfiguration and resilience evaluation faced by modern combat system-of-systems in a highly adversarial environment, and the deficiencies of existing studies in depicting high-order interaction relationships and cluster evolution mechanisms, this paper proposed a resilience modeling method for combat system-of-systems integrating hypernetwork and game theory, aiming to analyze the resilience mechanism of the system-of-systems in all dimensions from micro, mesoscopic, to macro levels. At the micro level, a high-order motif structure was introduced to represent the complex interaction modes among combat units, which overcame the information loss of traditional binary relationships in depicting …

Abstract: To address the conflict between car space allocation and peak passenger flow response efficiency in elevator group control scheduling, a multi-objective scheduling method based on proximal policy optimization (PPO) with real-time occupancy perception was proposed. A simulation environment considering car capacity constraints was constructed, and a reward-penalty mechanism with average passenger waiting time, system energy consumption, and car congestion as optimization objectives was designed. Based on this, state and action spaces were defined to form a PPO-based scheduling framework; a simulation platform integrating traffic flow visualization, policy scheduling, and performance evaluation was developed. Simulation results show that this method …
