The number of vulnerabilities exploited in Arm TrustZone systems has been increasing recently. The absence of digital forensics tools prevents platform owners from incident response or periodic security scans. However, the area of secure forensics for compromised TrustZone remains unexplored and presents unresolved challenges. Traditional out-of-TrustZone forensics are inherently hindered by TrustZone protection, rendering them infeasible. In-TrustZone approaches are susceptible to attacks from privileged adversaries, undermining their security. To fill these gaps, we introduce SCRUTINIZER, the first secure forensics solution for compromised TrustZone systems. SCRUTINIZER utilizes the highest privilege domain of the recent Arm Confidential Computing Architecture (CCA), called the …

Why Are Fairness Concerns So Important? Lessons From A Last-Mile Transportation System, Yiwei Chen, Hai Wang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The Last-Mile Problem refers to the provision of travel service for passengers from the nearest public transportation node to the final destination. The Last-Mile Transportation System (LMTS), which has recently emerged, provides on-demand last-mile transportation service for passengers. We consider an LMTS that consists of two types of passengers, regular-type passengers and special-type passengers (e.g., seniors, disabled people). The valuation of the last-mile service for special-type passengers is statistically higher than the one for regular-type passengers. Passengers incur disutility from waiting for the last-mile service. In this paper, we explore two fairness constraints on special-type passengers: (1) the fare for …

Zero-knowledge Succinct Non-interactive Argument of Knowledge (zkSNARK) is a powerful cryptographic primitive, in which a prover convinces a verifier that a given statement is true without leaking any additional information. However, existing zkSNARKs suffer from high computation overhead in the proof generation. This limits the applications of zkSNARKs, such as private payments, private smart contracts, and anonymous credentials. Private delegation has become a prominent way to accelerate proof generation. In this work, we propose Siniel, an efficient private delegation framework for zkSNARKs constructed from polynomial interactive oracle proof (PIOP) and polynomial commitment scheme (PCS). Our protocol allows a computationally limited …

A Robust Framework For Graph Construction In Vision Graph Neural Networks, Ismael Elsharkawi
Theses and Dissertations
In Computer Vision, the method of representing an image has a profound effect on the performance of a model. Traditionally speaking, an image is treated as a grid of pixels and can be processed via Convolution Neural Net- works (CNN). An image can also be treated as a sequence of patches. Vision Transformers and MLP-Mixers (Multi-Layer Perceptron Mixers) are two types of models that process an image as a sequence. A more generic representation than grids and sequences would be graphs. That is why Vision Graph Neural Network (ViG) construct a graph for an image and process the image as …

Incorporating Visual Information Into Natural Language Processing, Maxwell Mbabilla Aladago
Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations
Natural language describes entities in the world, some real and some abstract. It is also common practice to complement human learning of natural language with visual cues. This is evident in the heavily graphical nature of children’s literature which underscores the importance of visual cues in language acquisition. Similarly, the notion of “visual learners” is well recognized, reflecting the understanding that visual signals such as illustrations, gestures, and depictions effectively supplement language. In machine learning, two primary paradigms have emerged for training systems involving natural language. The first paradigm encompasses setups where pre-training and downstream tasks are exclusively in natural …

This paper demonstrates that firms receiving above-industry-average support in their “say-on-pay” (SoP) votes engage in more M&A transactions in the subsequent year. Our empirical findings suggest that high levels of SoP voting support may boost managerial confidence, thereby stimulating increased pursuit of acquisitions. Moreover, we observe that managers garnering higher SoP vote support are more likely to secure shareholders' backing in M&A votes, receive higher compensation in successful deals, and face a reduced likelihood of forced turnover following unsuccessful deals. Additionally, we find that both short-term and long-term M&A performance significantly improves in deals announced by managers receiving higher SoP …

Collaborative filtering is a common aspect recently used in e-commerce to increase sales and overcome information overload. One significant limitation in collaborative filtering is data sparseness. Several studies have proposed alleviating this issue by utilizing extra information such as users’ reviews. However, the researchers have been concerned with using entire reviews irrespective of the users’ ratings. This requires extra processing time and might perplex the recommendation decision. In this study, after analyzing the users’ ratings and reviews, it was noted that when the rating values are 4 or 5, most of the reviews accompanying these ratings are positive. Otherwise, when …

The rapid shift from internal combustion engine vehicles to battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs) presents considerable challenges, such as limited charging points (CPs), unpredictable wait times for charging, and difficulty in selecting appropriate CPs for EVs. To address these challenges, we propose a novel end-to-end framework, called Stable Matching based EV Charging Assignment (SMEVCA) that efficiently assigns charge-seeking EVs to CPs with the assistance of roadside units (RSUs). The proposed framework operates within a subscription-based model, ensuring that the subscribed EVs complete their charging within a predefined time limit enforced by a service level agreement (SLA). The framework SMEVCA employs a …
