Multi-Scale Modeling Method For Intelligent Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Swarm Combat, Yelei Zhu, Shoulin Shen, Jiang Zhu, Chuanhua Wen

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Intelligent unmanned aerial vehicle swarm combat exhibits multi-scale characteristics of microlevel tactical autonomy, meso-level resource constraints, and macro-level network collaboration. In view of the problem that a single-scale modeling method is difficult to simultaneously characterize individual decision-making details, resource flow process, and system collaboration mechanism, a multi-scale modeling method integrating multi-agent modeling, system dynamics, and complex network theory was proposed. By designing six formal coupling operators to achieve cross-layer information mapping, a time progression mechanism based on a master-slave clock and hybrid synchronization was established, and a proof of error boundedness was provided. A prototype system was implemented on …

Research On Multi-Objective Hybrid Flow-Shop Scheduling With Order Splitting, Junjie Yu, Weixi Ji, Chen Chen, Jingyu Lu, Chaoyang Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the order splitting multi-objective hybrid flow-shop scheduling problem (OSMOHFSP), a dual-objective optimization model was formulated with the objectives of minimizing makespan and total order tardiness. Fixed sub-batch specification constraints were incorporated to reflect common splitting limitations in actual production. A sub-batch generation strategy based on a candidate set of sub-batch specifications was designed to efficiently filter feasible splitting combinations, effectively reducing the search space dimensionality and computational complexity. A hybrid multi-objective metaheuristic algorithm integrating NSGA-II and SA was proposed. The global search capability was enhanced by constructing two crossover and four mutation operators. An improved SA embedding …

Ultra-Short-Term Photovoltaic Power Prediction Method Based On Spatio-Temporal Feature Enhancement Of Ground-Based Cloud Images, Zhiwei Kou, Fengyue Xin, Xiaoming Cui, Yu Yin, Feifan Li, Yongsheng Qi

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In view of the time lag in ground-based cloud image acquisition and the insufficient accuracy of existing photovoltaic power prediction models, an ultra-short-term photovoltaic power prediction method named spatial-temporal feature enhancement-ground-based cloud image-improved LSTM (STFE-GCI-ILSTM), which is based on spatio-temporal feature enhancement-ground-based cloud images-improved long short-term memory (LSTM) network was proposed. A ground-based cloud image prediction model with multi-scale spatio-temporal feature enhancement (STFE-GCI) was constructed. By spatial feature enhancement, temporal feature enhancement, and multi-scale feature fusion technologies, the deep spatio-temporal features of historical cloud image sequences were extracted to generate future predicted cloud image sequences, thereby eliminating the time …

Prediction Of Industrial Concentration Parameters Based On Caudformer Model, Kaipeng Xu, Yan Wang, Xin Zhang, Yang Liu, Zhenzhong Wang, Xiang Liu, Zhicheng Ji

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To solve the problems in the industrial concentration process of traditional Chinese medicine that traditional prediction methods are difficult to deal with complex characteristics such as nonlinearity, high-dimensional coupling, and highly skewed distribution and that existing deep learning models insufficiently consider causal relationships among variables, ignore frequency-domain periodic characteristics, and lack long-range dependency modeling capabilities, an improved multivariate time series prediction model CauDformer was proposed in this paper. Based on the iTransformer architecture, a causal multi-head self-attention mechanism (C-MHSA) was introduced to compulsorily constrain the dependency direction among variables by utilizing a lower triangular causal mask, guiding the model …

A Framework For Top-K Queries With Constrained Preferences, Kyriakos Mouratidis, Nikolaos Chaloulakos, Bo Tang Jul 2026

A Framework For Top-K Queries With Constrained Preferences, Kyriakos Mouratidis, Nikolaos Chaloulakos, Bo Tang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Traditional rank-aware processing assumes a dataset that contains available options to cover a specific need (e.g., restaurants, hotels, etc) and users who browse that dataset via top-k queries with linear scoring functions, i.e., by ranking the options according to the weighted sum of their attributes, for a set of given weights. In practice, however, user preferences (weights) may only be estimated with bounded accuracy, or may be inherently imprecise due to the inability of a human user to specify exact weight values with absolute accuracy. Motivated by this, we define the constrained-preference top-k (CT) query. Given an approximate description of …

Knowledge-State Generative Agents For Pre-Assessment Question Evaluation, Ping Fan Ke, Yi Meng Lau, Siaw Ling Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This paper introduces a Knowledge‑State Generative Agent framework for evaluating the quality of pre‑assessment questions. The framework employs large language model (LLM)–based agents prompted to adopt a teacher persona to simulate the responses of students with and without mastery of targeted knowledge components. A preliminary empirical study using archival data from 424 students enrolled in an Information Systems Management course indicates that the proposed approach yields interpretable metrics under Classical Test Theory. Results further show that agents instantiated with the relevant mastered knowledge components exhibit systematically higher performance than agents lacking such mastery. In addition, the study suggests that teacher-persona …

Advancing Social Media Analytics And Personalized Generation Via Transfer Learning, Discourse-Aware Modeling, And Collaborative Modeling, Gibson Nkhata

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Social media platforms have become central to information exchange, shaping public opinion across social, political, and economic domains. However, the massive volume of user-generated content, combined with its informal, nuanced, and often noisy nature, presents significant challenges for automated analysis and generation. Tasks such as stance detection, rumor verification, and personalized content generation are further complicated by sarcasm, evolving discourse structures, and diverse user preferences. Addressing these challenges requires models that can effectively leverage linguistic nuance, conversational dynamics, and collaborative user signals. Transfer learning has emerged as a powerful paradigm for improving performance in low-resource and complex language understanding tasks. …

Eeg P300 Ai Classification And Accessibility Keyboard Control Using Openbci’S Ultracortex Mark Iv For Reactive Brain-Computer Interaction, Grant King

Theses and Dissertations

Brain-computer interfaces provide people who cannot feasibly control a keyboard and mouse with an alternative method to type, to move a cursor, or to generally issue commands and make selections. A non-invasive recording modality for brain-computer interfaces is electroencephalography, or EEG. The OpenBCI Ultracortex Mark IV is an EEG headset enabling relatively low-cost EEG acquisition using wet or dry electrodes. P300 is an event-related potential involving a deflection in an EEG channel's voltage typically 300 milliseconds after the onset of an "oddball" stimulus. A person's P300 response can be used to control a selector application. This study investigates classification of …

Improved Pbs Algorithm For Multi-Agent Path Planning Based On Conflict Guidance And Punishment Mechanism, Jinbao Zhang, Jianlin Mao, Chengze Qian, Guimi Sun, Kaixin Tong

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the bottleneck in which the priority-based search (priority-based search, PBS) algorithm for multi-agent path planning easily falls into conflict loops and generates invalid node expansions in complex scenarios, an improved algorithm based on conflict guidance and a punishment mechanism (improved PBS multi-agent path finding algorithm based on conflict guidance and punishment mechanism, CGP-PBS) was proposed. A conflict-guided node expansion mechanism was constructed; in high-level search, it comprehensively evaluated path cost and the number of conflicts, preferentially expanded child nodes with high potential for conflict resolution, and delayed the expansion of high-conflict nodes, thereby effectively compressing the search …

Impartial Intelligence? Evidence Of Country-Label Sensitivity In Ai Financial Analysis, Fabio Motoki, Jedson Pinto Jul 2026

Impartial Intelligence? Evidence Of Country-Label Sensitivity In Ai Financial Analysis, Fabio Motoki, Jedson Pinto

School of Accountancy Faculty Publications

This study examines whether large language models exhibit systematic country-contingent differential treatment in financial fraud detection. Analyzing 30,000 synthetic transactions with identical statistical properties across three country attributions (United States, Great Britain, and China), we find LLMs assign significantly higher fraud probabilities to Chinese-attributed transactions (36.2%) compared to Western countries (≈30–31%), resulting in accuracy disparities of 67% versus 74%. The gap remains stable across five independent experimental replications and persists when using Chinese language prompts, ruling out linguistic effects. Bias mitigation strategies, such as requiring explanations or explicit country neutrality instructions, reduce but fail to eliminate these disparities. Testing across …

Using Recommender Systems To Help Revitalize Local News, Payam Pourashraf Jul 2026

Using Recommender Systems To Help Revitalize Local News, Payam Pourashraf

Theses and Dissertations from DePaul University

Local news outlets have experienced steep declines in readership as national and global online news sources have expanded and consolidated audience attention. Because many local media companies rely primarily on subscription-based business models, they must increase user engagement and provide clearer value to local subscribers. Personalization and recommender systems offer one promising path toward this goal. However, many recommender systems assume that a user’s past behavior can be summarized in a single unified profile. In practice, preferences are often context-dependent: the same person may prefer different content depending on geography, time, task, or situation. Local news offers a socially important …

Operational Agency: A Permeable Legal Fiction For Tracing Culpability In Ai Systems, Anirban Mukherjee, Hannah H. Chang

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Modern artificial intelligence (AI) systems act with a high degree of independence yet lack legal personhood—a paradox that fractures doctrines grounded in human-centric notions of mens rea and actus reus. This Article introduces Operational Agency (OA)—a permeable legal fiction structured as an ex post evidentiary framework—and Operational Agency Graph (OAG)—a tool for mapping causal interactions among human actors, organizations, and AI systems. OA evaluates an AI’s observable operational characteristics: its goal-directedness (as a proxy for intent), predictive processing (as a proxy for foresight), and safety architecture (as a proxy for standard of care). OAG operationalizes that analysis by embedding these …

Comparative Analysis Of Task Scheduling In Multi-Tier Fog-Cloud Computing: From Classical Approaches To Greedy Multi-Objective Optimization, Zafril Rizal M. Azmi, Najmul Haque, Saydul Akbar Murad

Faculty Publications

Fog computing extends cloud services to the network edge, enabling low-latency processing for time-sensitive applications. However, scheduling complexity significantly increases due to heterogeneous resources, dynamic workloads, and strict Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints. Although numerous scheduling techniques have been proposed, existing studies often assess only a narrow subset of algorithms or rely on offline metaheuristics unsuitable for real-time environments. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative evaluation of twelve scheduling algorithms, including five classical, one heuristic, and six metaheuristic-inspired approaches, within a realistic 20-node multi-tier fog-cloud topology. Across 1,365 experiments spanning seven utilization levels, we analyze each algorithm’s deadline adherence, load distribution, and …

Iterative Generation Of Feature-Based Cad Models Using An Llm With Domain Specific Constraints, Ammon I. Hepworth

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This paper presents a method to generate feature-based parametric mechanical CAD models from text input. The method uses domain-specific constraints (DSCs) to guide a large language model (LLM) in the generation of scripts to build models from the CAD API. It also presents a framework for an iterative text-based system that produces parametric CAD models. The method was implemented by developing DSCs for FreeCAD and Open AI GPT-5.2 and incorporated into a web-based software application which generates models that can be visualized with an interactive viewer after each iteration. Tests were run comparing various models with and without this method. …

Multicbr: Multi‑View Contrastive Learning For Bundle Recommendation, Yunshan Ma, Yingzhi He, Xiang Wang, Yinwei Wei, Xiaoyu Du, Yuyangzi Fu, Tat‑Seng Chua

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Bundle recommendation seeks to recommend a bundle of related items to users to improve both userexperience and the profits of platform. Existing bundle recommendation models have progressed from capturing only user-bundle interactions to the modeling of multiple relations among users, bundles, and items.CrossCBR, in particular, incorporates cross-view contrastive learning into a two-view preference learningframework, significantly improving SOTA performance. It does, however, have two limitations: (1) the twoview formulation does not fully exploit all the heterogeneous relations among users, bundles, and items; and(2) the “early contrast and late fusion” framework is less effective in capturing user preference and difficultto generalize to …

Late-Night And Early-Morning Train Scheduling With Non-Traffic Hour Maintenance Window In Urban Rail Transit Systems, Yaochen Ma, Hai Yang, Hai Wang Jul 2026

Late-Night And Early-Morning Train Scheduling With Non-Traffic Hour Maintenance Window In Urban Rail Transit Systems, Yaochen Ma, Hai Yang, Hai Wang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Regular maintenance during non-traffic hours (NTH) is vital for the resilience of urban rail transit (URT) systems, yet an insufficient NTH maintenance window poses a challenge for URT systems in various cities. For instance, the Hong Kong MTR Corporation has noted that the required NTH maintenance time often exceeds the available window, prompting service adjustments such as earlier late-night closures and/or later early-morning starts. To address this challenge, this study develops an optimal scheduling framework that links late-night and early-morning URT services through the NTH maintenance window requirement to maximize public welfare. A Decoupled Optimization Model (DOM) first derives closed-form …

Towards Uniformity And Alignment For Multimodal Representation Learning, Wenzhe Yin, Pan Zhou, Zehao Xiao, Jie Liu, Shujian Yu, Jan-Jakob Sonke, Efstratios Gavves

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Multimodal representation learning aims to construct a shared embedding space in which heterogeneous modalities are semantically aligned. Despite strong empirical results, InfoNCE-based objectives introduce inherent conflicts that yield distribution gaps across modalities. In this work, we identify two conflicts in the multimodal regime, both exacerbated as the number of modalities increases: (i) an alignment–uniformity conflict, whereby the repulsion of uniformity undermines pairwise alignment, and (ii) an intra-alignment conflict, where aligning multiple modalities induces competing alignment directions. To address these issues, we propose a principled decoupling of alignment and uniformity for multimodal representations, providing a conflict-free recipe for multimodal learning that …

Rendering Data Unlearnable By Exploiting Llm Alignment Mechanisms, Ruihan Zhang, Jun Sun Jul 2026

Rendering Data Unlearnable By Exploiting Llm Alignment Mechanisms, Ruihan Zhang, Jun Sun

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly trained on massive, heterogeneous text corpora, raising serious concerns about the unauthorised use of proprietary or personal data during model training. In this work, we address the problem of data protection against unwanted model learning in a realistic blackbox setting. We propose Disclaimer Injection, a novel data-level defence that renders text unlearnable to LLMs. Rather than relying on model-side controls or explicit data removal, our approach exploits the models’ own alignment mechanisms: injecting carefully designed alignment-triggers to prevent effective learning. Through layer-wise analysis, we find that finetuning on such protected data induces persistent activation …

Avadclip: Audio-Visual Collaboration For Robust Video Anomaly Detection, Peng Wu, Wanshun Su, Guansong Pang, Yujia Sun, Qingsen Yan, Peng Wang, Yanning Zhang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

With the increasing adoption of video anomaly detection in intelligent surveillance domains, conventional visual-only detection approaches often struggle with information insufficiency and high false-positive rates in complex environments. To address these limitations, we present a novel weakly supervised framework that leverages audio-visual collaboration for robust video anomaly detection. Capitalizing on the exceptional cross-modal representation learning capabilities of Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) across visual, audio, and textual domains, our framework introduces two major innovations: an efficient audio-visual fusion that enables adaptive cross-modal integration through lightweight parametric adaptation while maintaining the frozen CLIP backbone, and a novel audio-visual prompt that dynamically enhances …

Robust Graph Learning On The Web: Challenges, Methods, And Applications, Ao Xiang, Yang Liu, Guansong Pang, Yuanhao Ding, Hezhe Qiao, Dawei Cheng, Qing He

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Graph learning is transforming web intelligence, powering applications from recommender systems to anomaly detection. However, most existing approaches implicitly assume ideal conditions where training and testing data are accurate, complete, and free from manipulation. In reality, web environments rarely exhibit such stability. Dynamic user behavior, incomplete or outdated content, adversarial interference, and sudden distribution shifts can all erode the reliability of even state-of-the-art models, leading to biased or unsafe outcomes. This tutorial provides a comprehensive survey of emerging strategies for robust graph learning on the web. We first present a structured taxonomy of the principal robustness threats specific to web …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Websites are critical in today’s digital world, with over 1.11 billion currently active and approximately 252,000 new sites launched daily. Converting website layout design into functional UI code is a time-consuming yet indispensable step of website development. Manual methods of converting visual designs into functional code present significant challenges, especially for non-experts. To explore automatic design-to-code solutions, we first conduct a motivating study on GPT-4o and identify three types of issues in generating UI code: element omission, element distortion, and element misarrangement. We further reveal that a focus on smaller visual segments can help multimodal large language models (MLLMs) mitigate …

While multimodal generative models have advanced radiology report generation (RRG), challenges remain in making reports accessible to patients and ensuring reliable evaluation. The technical language and templated nature of professional reports hinder patient comprehension and enable models to artificially boost lexical metrics such as BLEU by reproducing common report patterns. To address these limitations, we propose the Layman’s RRG framework, which leverages layperson-friendly language to enhance patient accessibility and promote more robust evaluation and report generation by encouraging models to focus on semantic accuracy over rigid templates. Our approach also introduces and releases two refined layman-style datasets (at the sentence …

BAU Journal - Science and Technology

The widespread use of the Internet is causing increasing security concerns regarding online communications. One method for achieving secure communication between authorized parties is steganography. We herein employ multilevel technologies, including compression, encryption, barcoding, and steganography to secure a secret text message. Type I multilevel steganography is used with a two-level setup. The first level uses enhanced least significant bit (secure LSB-L1) image steganography; the output is a stego-image file, the cover is an image file, and the secret data in this level is English text. The output from the first level is encrypted using the RSA algorithm, and the …

Analysis Of Normalization, Resampling, And Weighted Voting To Improve K-Nn Performance In Diabetes Disease Detection, Agustiyar, R. Rizal Isnanto, Budi Warsito, Adi Wibowo, Ferry Jie

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Diabetes is a global health issue, and machine learning has become crucial for early detection. The k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN) machine learning algorithm is widely used because it is simple and easy to implement; however, its performance is sensitive to feature scale differences, class imbalance, and the assumption of uniform decision-making, as commonly found in clinical datasets such as the Pima Indians Diabetes (PID) dataset. Many studies have been conducted to address these issues; however, very few have systematically evaluated the combined effects of preprocessing and distance-based decision-making methods on k-NN performance. This study evaluates the combined effects of preprocessing strategies …
