The Teaching Of Current Events, Muriel M. Shallow Jul 1930

The Teaching Of Current Events, Muriel M. Shallow

Bachelors’ Theses

For more than a quarter of a century current-events has been taught successfully and with good results, in connection with other subjects; but as a separate subject it failed to get recognition for its true worth. It has proved popular to both teachers and students but has received little scientific investigation and encouragement at the hands of curriculum-builders and reorganizers. Theorists who have tried to work with it find it baffling for it is a difficult subject to classify. From year to year its content differs and it is everlastingly encroaching upon and overlapping various subjects. This makes it very …

The Rattler (Previous issues)

Volume 11, Issue 16 of The Rattler serves as a commencement edition, honoring the graduating class of 1930 with a tribute and accompanying photographs. The issue outlines key events surrounding graduation, including the announcement of Carl Wright Johnson as commencement speaker and the orchestra’s final concert scheduled for May 15. The paper also features alumni updates and reports the passing of Ernest Steves, a prominent San Antonian and active member of the university’s Alumni Association. Athletic …

The Influence Of The Radio Broadcast Of News Events Upon The Newspaper, Frances Agnes Murphy May 1930

The Influence Of The Radio Broadcast Of News Events Upon The Newspaper, Frances Agnes Murphy

Bachelors’ Theses

Radio broadcasting and the newspaper overlap each other in several ways. Not only does the radio, by its very nature, derive its revenue in the same way as the newspaper gains the greater part of its funds, but it is daily increasing its score of followers by reporting such events as heretofore were confined to the newspaper alone. Both the division of advertising between the newspaper and the radio and their influence on each other as disseminators of news are problems which bear thorough investigation. Because of the magnitude of each angle of similarity, however, only the latter will be …

The World Court, James M. Lecount May 1930

The World Court, James M. Lecount

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis attempts to estimate the influence of the American Press in creating public opinion in favor of America's entrance into the World Court. Public opinion is an intangible something that is not easily measured according to any hard and fast rule. Still, the fact remains, it is an important power in determining the course of the ship of state.

Increased Use Of Foreign News In American Newspapers In The Present Century, James J. Strebig May 1930

Increased Use Of Foreign News In American Newspapers In The Present Century, James J. Strebig

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis sets out to show that due to certain circumstances, certain turns of events affecting the nation politically and economically and through the manner of handling foreign news by American editors, there has grown up in the United States during the last quarter of a century a distinct demand for foreign news; that this demand was created by events which were in their nature sufficient to cause world-wide interest, that the demand was made continuous and larger by the methods of American editors. Its main theme is to be found in the increased amount of foreign news printed in …
