The Rattler (Volume 13, Issue 10, Edition 1), St. Mary's University

The Rattler (Previous issues)

Volume 13, Issue 10 of The Rattler highlights continued growth in student organizations, academic initiatives, and campus life at St. Mary’s University. The Diamond Back yearbook launches a sales campaign, while Major A. M. Prentiss, Chief of Chemical Warfare for the 8th Corps Area, delivers a lecture on the organization of the U.S. Army. Student leadership development is evident as upperclassmen from the City Section meet to organize and elect officers. The Goethe Club formalizes its structure by adopting a constitution, and campus social life remains active with events such as a reception hosted by the Degree Club and a …

Editorial Policy Of The Milwaukee Sentinel On A Number Of Pertinent Questions From January 1, 1931 To October 1, 1931, Edward Joseph Byrne

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to point out the editorial policy of the Milwaukee Sentinel on a number of questions of importance and to inspect the editorials of the paper over a representative period thereby determining how the policy has been carried out. Choosing the nine-month period from January 1, 1931 to October ·1, 1931, I have attempted to point out whether the paper has bean consistent in its policy on these questions over this period.

The Much-Maligned Press: A Modern Defense Of Journalism, Dorothy K.M. Axt Jun 1931

The Much-Maligned Press: A Modern Defense Of Journalism, Dorothy K.M. Axt

Bachelors’ Theses

One frequently hears disparagement and depreciation of the work of the mighty power called the Press. It seems a strangely human trait to notice flaws rather than good points. When two gossips get together the faults of their mutual acquaintances are thoroughly discussed, rather than the excellent characteristics they possess. Just so: when any given group discusses journalism, it seems the faults are overplayed in the discussion. An internationally famous sociologist sneers at the work of journalism and all its accomplishments . Another educator of some note looks down on the Press with. a supercilious expression and a shrug of …

Newspaper Propaganda During Time Of War, Evelyn L. Senn Dec 1930

Newspaper Propaganda During Time Of War, Evelyn L. Senn

Bachelors’ Theses

Twelve years have elapsed since the World Powers engaged in a great conflict. Nationality and sanity have taken the place of war frenzy. Bias, hate, and prejudice should have lost their sting. A paper on the newspaper's part in war propaganda would be difficult to write during a war or just after one, because it would be difficult to treat sanely; now, however, the vast world public can see impartially how efforts were made to forge public opinion.

The History And Technique Of The Art Of Makeup And The Masks, Marion L. Brady May 1930

The History And Technique Of The Art Of Makeup And The Masks, Marion L. Brady

Bachelors’ Theses

In this thesis I have endeavored to compile in one paper as complete a history o,f the Mask and Makeup as was practical in a shorter treatise. The material contained in the following pages has been drawn from many and scattered sources. Kenneth MacGown's book, Masks and Demons, has proved an invaluable source, and I am indebted to him for much of the material concerning the source and history of the Mask. I have drawn freely from the following works: John F. Baird's book, Makeup, and Glenn Hughes' History of the Theatre. Magazines and periodicals have contributed …
