วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง "การสื่อสารเพื่อการเตรียมตัวตายของผู้สูงอายุ" มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการสื่อสารเพื่อการเตรียมตัวตายในสังคมไทย การให้ความหมายเรื่องความตายของผู้สูงอายุ และพฤติกรรมการสื่อสารเพื่อการเตรียมตัวตายของผู้สูงอายุ ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยใช้แบบสัมภาษณ์ชนิดมีโครงสร้างเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มผู้สูงอายุกรณีศึกษา 18 คน การเตรียมตัวตายเป็นพฤติกรรมสังคม และพฤติกรรมวัฒนธรรม ผู้สูงอายุคิดวางแผนเตรียมตัวตายโดยใช้การสื่อสารเป็นเครื่องมือ การสื่อสารเพื่อการเตรียมตัวตายเป็นกระบวนการในการสร้างความหมายร่วมกันระหว่างผู้ร่วมกระทำการสื่อสารซึ่งมีปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อกัน ปฏิสัมพันธ์ในที่นี้มีขอบเขตตั้งแต่ระดับภายในตนเอง ปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อบุคคลใกล้ชิด ต่อกลุ่ม และต่อสาธารณะ ผู้สูงอายุให้ความหมายความตาย 5 ความหมาย ได้แก่ ความตายคือการไม่มีชีวิตอยู่ ความตายคือการเคลื่อนย้ายของจิต ความตายคือการเปลี่ยนภพตามพระประสงค์ของพระเจ้า ความตายคือการเดินทางครั้งใหม่-การเกิด ความตายคือการพลัดพรากหรือถูกทำให้พลัดพรากจากที่เป็นอยู่ ปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการเตรียมตัวตายของผู้สูงอายุมี 4 ปัจจัยหลัก ได้แก่ ปัจจัยตัวบุคคล ปัจจัยศาสนา ปัจจัยด้านสังคมวัฒนธรรม และปัจจัยสถานภาพทางสังคมเศรษฐกิจ สื่อและช่องทางการสื่อสารเพื่อการเตรียมตัวตายของผู้สูงอายุ ได้แก่ สื่อบุคคล สื่อเฉพาะกิจ สื่อเชิงวัฒนธรรม สื่อวัตถุ และสื่อสังคม

เพื่อศึกษาความไม่ต่อเนื่องทางวาทกรรม การตีความของมารดา และกลวิธีการประกอบสร้างวาทกรรมในเชิงเรื่องเล่าต่อการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ซึ่งมีอิทธิพลต่อชนชั้นกลางชาวไทย งานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพชิ้นนี้ศึกษาตัวบทที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับแม่และเผยแพร่ในปี พ.ศ.2475-2565 อาทิ แบบเรียนภาษาไทย วรรณกรรม ละครโทรทัศน์ นิตยสาร สมุดบันทึกสุขภาพแม่และเด็ก สื่อสังคมออนไลน์ รวมถึงโฆษณา และข่าวในพระราชสำนัก ผลการวิจัยพบวาทกรรมนมแม่ซึ่งสามารถแบ่งออกเป็น 5 ยุค ดังนี้ (1) ยุคก่อนกรอบการวิจัย คติทางพุทธให้ความหมายของนมแม่ว่ากลั่นมาจากเลือดในอกด้วยความรักของแม่ น้ำนมแม่เป็นสัญญะของจิตวิญญาณความเป็นแม่ซึ่งส่งผ่านจากเจ้าของน้ำนมสู่ทารก แม้แต่จากแม่นม กระนั้นไม่พบว่ามารดามีบทบาทสำคัญใด ๆ ในเรื่องเล่า (2) ยุคนมแม่อาหารตามธรรมชาติ นมแม่มีสัญญะของอาหารเชิงโภชนาการมากขึ้นและจิตวิญญาณในน้ำนมแม่ส่งผ่านเฉพาะมารดาทางชีวภาพ ไม่ใช่จากแม่นม มารดามีบทบาทมากขึ้นในเรื่องเล่าในฐานะผู้สร้างชาติและมีบุญคุณ (3) ยุคนมแม่แพ้นมผง ด้วยอิทธิพลของโฆษณาและองค์ความรู้วิทยาศาสตร์ นมผงเป็นอาหารทดแทนนมแม่ที่สามารถเติมสารอาหารเข้าไปได้ ภาพของมารดายุคใหม่จึงไม่ต้องให้นมแม่ (4) ยุคนมแม่แน่ที่สุด องค์ความรู้วิทยาศาสตร์และคติพุทธให้คุณค่าต่อนมแม่ในสื่อทุกประเภท คู่ตรงข้ามเป็นกลวิธีในการสร้างให้นมผงมีความหมายดุจยาพิษ ส่งผลให้มารดาที่เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่เท่านั้นคือแม่ที่ดี (5) ยุคแห่งการกระจัดกระจายของวาทกรรม เริ่มปรากฏการตระหนักถึงระบบคู่ตรงข้ามและการต่อรองวาทกรรมว่านมแม่ดีที่สุดแต่นมผงก็ใช้ได้หากจำเป็น ในอีกพื้นที่วาทกรรมมีการให้คุณค่านมแม่ว่าเป็นน้ำนมคน คือมีความเป็นวัตถุและไม่แฝงจิตวิญญาณของเจ้าของน้ำนม จากปรากฏการณ์บริจาคน้ำนมแม่บนโลกออนไลน์ด้วยการตีความว่านมแม่คนใด ๆ นั้นดีกว่าและปลอดภัยกว่านมโค แสดงให้เห็นอิทธิพลของสื่อสังคมออนไลน์ที่จัดสรรให้แต่ละกลุ่มวาทกรรมมีพื้นที่อุดมการณ์ของตัวเอง มารดาในยุคออนไลน์มีสถานะเป็นผู้เล่าเรื่องและมีความเป็นปัจเจกบุคคลมากขึ้นกว่าแต่ก่อน ซึ่งด้านหนึ่งช่วยเพิ่มอำนาจให้กับมารดาในการต่อรองกับปิตาธิปไตย แต่อีกด้านหนึ่งกลับพบการผลิตซ้ำบทบาทหน้าที่ของสตรีให้มีจำกัด การตีความด้านการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ของมารดามี 2 จังหวะ ครั้งแรกคือช่วงก่อนการคลอดที่สื่อมีบทบาทมาก และอีกครั้งภายหลังคลอดซึ่งประสบการณ์ส่วนบุคคลร่วมกับสื่อที่ใช้มีบทบาทต่อพฤติกรรมการให้นมและความภาคภูมิใจในการเป็นแม่ กรอบความรู้ทางคติพุทธและวิทยาการตะวันตกปะทะสังสรรค์กันตลอดช่วงเวลาทางประวัติศาสตร์ และวาทกรรมหนึ่ง ๆ จะครองอำนาจได้เมื่อกรอบความรู้ทั้งสองทำงานสอดประสานกัน ผู้วิจัยเสนอแนะว่าการสื่อสารเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ไม่ควรเน้นความหมายเฉพาะที่ตัวน้ำนมแม่ ไม่จำเป็นต้องชูภาพความสำเร็จของความเป็นแม่จากมารดาที่ให้นมแม่ปริมาณมาก แต่ควรนำเสนอมิติของความสัมพันธ์ให้มากขึ้นและสามารถให้ข้อมูลอาหารทดแทนนมแม่เพื่อเป็นตัวเลือกต่อมารดาหากจำเป็นต้องใช้

This post-qualitative study branching from new-materialist, post-humanist epistemology and ontology examines relationality through the lens of three different theories: agential realism, John Shotter’s communication theory, and relational mindfulness. Background: On December 20, 2019, the US “Tobacco 21” law raised the minimum legal sales age of tobacco products to 21 years. Initial research suggests that misinformation about Tobacco 21 circulated via news sources on Twitter and that sentiment about the law was associated with particular types of tobacco products and included discussions about other age-related behaviors. Background: Aphasia is an acquired language disorder that impairs communication, across all modalities of language (i.e., reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension). Aphasia most commonly results from damage to the left hemisphere of the brain (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury). Cognitive function including attention, memory, and executive functioning may negatively impact patient outcomes during post-acute rehabilitation of aphasia. This study sought to examine the role humor plays in defusing conflict between friends from an evolutionary perspective. Although a vast amount of research exists on humor, friendship, and conflict, no single study connects all three of these concepts together. This study attempted to fill this gap by examining how different humor styles used between friends in times of conflict relate to friendship satisfaction and life satisfaction. Increasingly, women experiencing infertility are turning online to social media platforms, like Instagram, to engage with a support network and foster empathy. However, Instagram is also noted for its augmentation of White, cis, and heteronormative femininity through a process of silencing and minoritizing alternative, non-White voices. Through an inductive analysis of the most frequently used infertility hashtags, we collected and analyzed 252 Instagram posts to investigate how these algorithmic practices may socially construct the idealized IVF experience through communicating normative expectations. In 2018, one of the world’s first sex robots was released by CEO Matt McMullen and his company, RealDoll. With artificial intelligence capabilities, the Harmony model is meant to support and converse with users. Using a social construction of technology theory lens, this study develops the theory’s fourth level of analysis, emphasizing mass media’s construction abilities. A critical discourse analysis of 38 publicity interviews found a tendency to emphasize the companionship of sex robots while envisioning a future where integration is normalized, and a sentient robot is possible. The journey of gendered software started with the raw idea fueled by Alan Turing’s imitation game in the 1950s. Recently emerging synthetic acoustically gender-ambiguous voices could contribute to dissolving the still prevailing genderism. Yet, are we indeed perceiving these voices as “unassignable”? Or are we trying to assimilate them into existing genders? To investigate the perceived ambiguity, we conducted an explorative 3 (male, female, ambiguous voice) × 3 (male, female, ambiguous topic) experiment. We found that, although participants perceived the gender-ambiguous voice as ambiguous, they used a profoundly wide range of the scale, indicating tendencies toward a gender. We uncovered a mild dissolve of gender roles. Neither the listener’s gender nor the personal gender stereotypes impacted the perception. However, …

A post-test only experimental design evaluated the empirical influence of three 2016 National Forensic Association final round oral interpretation performances (two Dramatic Interpretations and one Prose Interpretation) on entertainment (parasocial interaction, identification, and narrative transportation); the capacity of entertainment to elicit enjoyment; and the capacity of entertainment to elicit persuasion (i.e., changes to attitude valence and attitude importance) through the mediating process of reduced counterarguing against subjective interpretations of arguments in the oral interpretation performances. This thesis examines how the practice of sciencing, tech-romancing, simulacra, and simulation manifests in both the text and symbols used on audiences of the Church of Scientology’s outreach materials. It specifically examines its official FAQ page. Self-framing was observed that satisfied the definition of sciencing and tech-romancing. The current study pilot tested a popular music media literacy website that was developed based on the final report of the APA Division 46 Task Force on the Sexualization of Popular Music (2018). The study hypothesized that popular music media literacy education would produce significant differences between the baseline assessment and post-literacy assessment for outcomes related to music reflecting real life, viewing the self as similar to music portrayals, music skepticism, level of engagement with music, and self-reported self-esteem. This article builds off prior work on news consumption habits and perception of bias in the news by focusing on college students’ self-generated definitions of bias, and the strategies they employ to guard against how their personal bias potentially affects what news they choose to believe and consume. Through interviews with undergraduate students, findings show that while participants acknowledged they had personal bias to a degree, the majority still defined bias as an external issue imposed on them by others than as an internal issue shaping their thoughts about the sources they consumed.
