Possible Pictorial Messages For Communication With Extraterrestrial Intelligences, Douglas Vakoch
Possible Pictorial Messages For Communication With Extraterrestrial Intelligences, Douglas Vakoch
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
If we want to communicate with extraterrestrial intelligences, we must encode information we wish to transmit. I have designed some messages which could be sent to other intelligences. There are three possible message types: linguistic, formalized (like computer languages) and pictorial. I chose to study pictorial. I limited my investigation to two-dimensional messages. By using a square format with prime numbers as the lengths of sides, the decoding process would be made easier. Like the prime number, square format, the use of a group of pulses as a name for the object shown in the picture had previously been suggested. …
Immediate Learner Achievement As An Effect Of Aesthetic Embellishment In Educational Art, Roger D. Markham
Immediate Learner Achievement As An Effect Of Aesthetic Embellishment In Educational Art, Roger D. Markham
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to test the null hypothesis that there would be no significant difference in the achievement of subjects who are taught the same concepts using two sets of visuals which differ in detail, complexity, accuracy of scale and use of background. A 20-item comprehension test produced non-significant differences between the simple and complex artwork treatments within both the Army Reserve and FTU samples. Subjects in both target audiences achieved approximately the same comprehension level even though the perceived the complex art to be significantly more adequate to teach. The major implication of this study is the possibility …

A Proposed Equipment Development Plan For Closed Circuit Television As It Relates To The Existing Curriculum At College Of Southern Utah, Don Lee Blanchard
A Proposed Equipment Development Plan For Closed Circuit Television As It Relates To The Existing Curriculum At College Of Southern Utah, Don Lee Blanchard
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A study of closed circuit television systems was made which could be utilized to supplement conventional teaching methods at College of Southern Utah.
A basic, but complete studio installation for production work and radio-television class room instruction in addition to four, individual, self-contained installations are recommended for regular classroom use. All equipment is to be compatible and provide for complete interchangeability of tapes within the system.
Present costs of distribution systems indicate that video tapes produced in the classroom, in the field, or in the studio and played back in the classroom would provide better utilization of available funds. It …

A Survey Of How The Various Government Agencies Use Radio, Recordings, And Television, Eunice Sheley
A Survey Of How The Various Government Agencies Use Radio, Recordings, And Television, Eunice Sheley
Student Scholarship
This 1955 research project provides a comprehensive analysis of how United States government agencies and select non-governmental organizations leveraged the burgeoning media of radio and television for public information and education. The study, compiled primarily through interviews with agency officials, highlights a transitional era where traditional print media was being rapidly supplemented—and in some cases surpassed—by audio and visual communication.
A central theme of the report is the concept of Public Service broadcasting, where networks and local stations donated airtime to government agencies at no cost. The Department of Agriculture is identified as one of the most extensive users of …

Fm 11-20. Signal Corps Field Manual: Organization And Operations In Corps, Army Theater Of Operations, And Ghq, Robert Bolin , Depositor
United States Army: Field Manuals
This manual is a plan for organizing Signal Corps services within the continental US and in theatres of operation. This manual was issued shortly before the US entered World War II. I imagine that the actual organization of Signal Corps services during the war was considerably different from what was shown in this manual. One humorous feature of this manual is the attention given to the “Pigeon Company.”
