A Study Of The Associated Press With Emphasis On The Washington Bureau, Sharlene Agerter

Student Scholarship

This research paper, submitted in January 1951, provides a comprehensive historical and functional analysis of the Associated Press (AP), with a specific focus on its Washington Bureau. The study traces the evolution of news gathering from early 19th-century methods—such as Samuel Topliff’s systematic rowboat collection of European news in 1811and the subsequent use of pony expresses, carrier pigeons, and the telegraph—to the formal establishment of the first co-operative news organization in May 1848. The author details the AP’s survival through intense journalistic wars, legal battles over monopoly charges, and pivotal internal conflicts between New York and Western news factions.

A Survey Of The English Language In The Philippines And The Various Filipino Dialects And The Development Of Tagalog As A National Language, Vidal Serrano Mata Jan 1950

A Survey Of The English Language In The Philippines And The Various Filipino Dialects And The Development Of Tagalog As A National Language, Vidal Serrano Mata

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This Master Thesis aims to discuss the language mix-up in the Philippines. Originally, the people speak different dialects because of the lack of interaction due to geographical isolation. The Spaniards brought Spanish to them, which became the official language of the government until the Americans came and made English the medium of instruction in the school.

The trouble lies in the fact that English-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want English only, Spanish-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want Spanish only, Tagalog-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want Tagalog only while non-Tagalog-speaking Filipinos are either indifferent or prefer their respective dialects. This is the uncomfortable mess created by the principles of democracy …

An Analysis Of Twelve Speeches Of Parley Parker Pratt, Mormon Orator, Morris M. Clinger Jan 1946

An Analysis Of Twelve Speeches Of Parley Parker Pratt, Mormon Orator, Morris M. Clinger

Theses and Dissertations

The chief purpose of this investigation is to determine the elements of speech style, the motive appeals, and the use of the elements of interest which play the most characteristic roles in twelve of Parley P. Pratt's sermons. A brief biography is included as a part of this study that a better understanding of the man might be …
