A Way Of The Soul: The Use Of An Introductory Course In Christian Spirituality As A Path Towards Personal Ministry In The Local Parish, Newton W. Kerney May 2002

A Way Of The Soul: The Use Of An Introductory Course In Christian Spirituality As A Path Towards Personal Ministry In The Local Parish, Newton W. Kerney

Doctor of Ministry

Committed laity in the local parish seek ministry opportunities with depth and purpose. The use of an introductory course in Christian spirituality as a tool towards personal ministry is one way to develop a more vitalized lay ministry within the local parish.

A definition of spirituality is proposed and used as a backdrop for the development of a course curriculum. The dissertation examines spiritual formation concepts in the Old Testament and New Testament with an eye to their application in daily life. Martin Luther's spirituality as expressed in scripture, catechism and hymnody is explored along with the spiritual formation concerns …

Program - Bringing Biblical Narratives To Life: The Eleventh Symposium On Worship And The Arts, Calvin Institute Of Christian Worship

Symposium on Worship Archive

Christian worship is rooted in scripture. Biblical narratives are the source for the images and themes that are expressed in every element of public worship. This year's Symposium on Worship and the Arts explores how worship can foster a creative encounter with the biblical text. Together we will learn how master preachers and artists, youth leaders and musicians, actors and worship planners approach the biblical text, and– by the Spirit's power–bring it to life in creative and engaging ways. Come to this year's Symposium expecting to be inspired by this creativity and looking for practical ideas for use in your …

Motivation To Participate: Understanding Students' Reasons For Participating As A Help In Growing A Youth Group, Ken Garland Oct 1997

Motivation To Participate: Understanding Students' Reasons For Participating As A Help In Growing A Youth Group, Ken Garland

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

Why do high school students participate in church activities? The question has been asked and answered abstractly and anecdotally for years. Still, no one working in church ministry with high school students really understands what motivates those who participate regularly in church youth group activities to do so. It seems that understanding these motivations would be a rather high priority considering what seems to be increasing disinterest in church among contemporary high schoolers.
