The Resurrection Body “According To The Scriptures,” Chapter Three, Wilbert Webster White
The Resurrection Body “According To The Scriptures,” Chapter Three, Wilbert Webster White
The Journal of Inductive Biblical Studies
If we suppose Intelligence, with an organism answering in its characteristics merely to the properties of the ether, we have a being conforming very nearly, if not quite, to the notion the mystics had of the indwellers of the supersensual world. With bodies more dense than steel, though unamenable to earthly sight or touch, these creatures would see the fleshly forms as a shadowy garment, and a matter at large but as a film thinner than air which offered no bar to their passage. And, exempt from the laws of gravitation which hold prison bound the frame of clay, they …

Ancient Literary Criticism And Major Structural Relationships: A Comparative Analysis, Matthew R. Peterson, Dain Alexander Smith
Ancient Literary Criticism And Major Structural Relationships: A Comparative Analysis, Matthew R. Peterson, Dain Alexander Smith
The Journal of Inductive Biblical Studies
The texts of the New Testament (NT) emerged during an era that produced robust literary and rhetorical criticism. This article draws from works produced during that period to investigate similarities and differences between the figures discussed by ancient literary theorists and the Major Structural Relationships (MSRs) identified by David R. Bauer and Robert A. Traina. Ultimately, this article reveals that the MSRs proposed in their Inductive Bible Study (IBS) handbook are not merely an invention of modern literary critical reading strategies but reflect devices incorporated into ancient literature and identified and discussed by ancient literary theorists.

The Isaiah Map: An Approach To Teaching Isaiah, John Hilton Iii
The Isaiah Map: An Approach To Teaching Isaiah, John Hilton Iii
Faculty Publications
I saiah is an extremely important prophet—his words were endorsed by the Savior himself (see 3 Nephi 23:1). Because Isaiah’s words can be difficult to comprehend, religious educators have a significant responsibility to help their students understand them. Perhaps the best opportunity to teach Isaiah in a Sunday School, seminary, or institute setting is during a course in the Old Testament. The next best opportunity is when teaching the Book of Mormon. “Nineteen of Isaiah’s sixty-six chapters are quoted in their entirety in the Book of Mormon and, except for two verses, two other chapters are completely quoted. Of the …
A Study On The Effect Of Church Revival And Growth Through A Relationship-Based Evangelism Of Cell Church: The Case Of Seoul Sungbok Church In Korea 목장 교회의 관계전도를 통한 교회 부흥과 성장의 효과에 관한 연구: 서울 성복교회를 중심으로, Young-Woo Eun

This paper aims to study the effects of the ranch church system to the growth and revival within a church by analyzing various cases of other churches organized as ‘ranch church’ among churches in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to propose methodology of a growth of the church which is necessary for Korean churches by describing and studying methods of relationships, nurture, services, mission works, training, etc. The Korean churches have gone through the growth and revival which are unparalleled in the world. However, there is a lack of the qualitative growth in proportion to sizes and numerical …
Repatriating The Canaanite Woman In The Gospel Of Matthew, Cedric Vine
Repatriating The Canaanite Woman In The Gospel Of Matthew, Cedric Vine
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
This study argues that Matthew’s replacement of Mark’s “Gentile of Syrophoenician origin” with a “Canaanite woman” (Mark 7:26; Matt 15:22) is part of a wider narrative strategy to portray the land of Israel and its cities as a new Sodom, a new Canaan, a new Egypt, and a new Babylon. The study employs Dale Allison’s six intertextual devices (explicit statement, inexplicit citation or borrowing, similar circumstances, key words or phrases, similar narrative structure, and word order, syllabic sequence, and poetic resonance) to demonstrate a consistent authorial intention while identifying contemporary or near contemporary sources that would affirm the likelihood that …
Thinking Systematically With The Scriptural Christology Of Hebrews: Contributions To The Theology Of Christ’S Threefold Office, Adriani M. Rodrigues
Thinking Systematically With The Scriptural Christology Of Hebrews: Contributions To The Theology Of Christ’S Threefold Office, Adriani M. Rodrigues
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
The epistle to the Hebrews presents a rich Christology articulated in dialogue with the OT. This article assumes that the dogmatic potential of Hebrews should enrich the architecture of systematic theology. Accordingly, the study aims at identifying how the conceptual articulation of the Christology of Hebrews contributes to the theology of Christ’s threefold office. To achieve this goal, the article dialogues with categories of the munus triplex (Christ’s threefold office): prophet, priest, and king. After a short description of these categories in Christian theology, the study undertakes a systematic reading of Hebrews by first outlining its material contri- bution to …
Martin Luther’S Understanding Of Faith In Relation To Infant Baptism, Francis Gayoba
Martin Luther’S Understanding Of Faith In Relation To Infant Baptism, Francis Gayoba
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
This article explores Martin Luther’s understanding of faith as a means to reconcile the seeming tension between his emphasis on faith in baptism against Roman Catholicism and his de-emphasis on faith against Anabaptism. This tension is most evident in his support of infant baptism despite his belief in sola fide. It is proposed that Luther’s predestinarian understanding of the sovereignty of God influences his perception of the role of faith in baptism, which emphasizes God’s role and de-emphasizes human acts in the ceremony. Luther argues that human faith, while important for the daily application of baptism, cannot be the …

The biblical site of Ataroth mentioned in the book of Numbers was built by the Gadites and destroyed in the mid-9th century BC by king Mesha of Moab. The site contained a temple complex with a sanctuary and several altars. In 2015, a joint team from La Sierra, Andrews, Averett, and Brigham Young Universities continued excavation at the site. Their primary goal was to explore the north, south, and east edges of the temple complex to determine its full extent, its fortifications, and any domestic living spaces in the area. An outer wall was discovered on the southern side of …
