trans-Resveratrol (resveratrol) has been shown to have various health benefits. As a consequence, there is an effort to determine plentiful sources of this molecule. Certain plants, such as grapes, synthesize resveratrol and therefore appear to be an excellent source of this chemical. Annual pruning of grapevine yields significant amounts of cane material that is normally mulched or simply burned. Previous studies have shown this grape cane to contain economically useful resveratrol. Texas is the seventh largest producer of grapes in the USA with over 162 ha currently under cultivation. As a result it is estimated that more than $3.2 …

For the past three decades, the coordination-driven self-assembly of three-dimensional structures has undergone rapid progress; however, parallel efforts to create large discrete two-dimensional architectures—as opposed to polymers—have met with limited success. The synthesis of metallo-supramolecular systems with well-defined shapes and sizes in the range of 10–100 nm remains challenging. Here we report the construction of a series of giant supramolecular hexagonal grids, with diameters on the order of 20 nm and molecular weights greater than 65 kDa, through a combination of intra- and intermolecular metal-mediated self-assembly steps. The hexagonal intermediates and the resulting self-assembled grid architectures were imaged at submolecular …

Excessive amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS), unless counterbalanced by antioxidants, can cause cellular damage under oxidative stress conditions; therefore, antioxidative defenses against ROS must be measured. With the development of nanotechnology, nanoparticles have found numerous applications in science, health, and industries. Magnetite nanoparticles (Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$:MNPs) have attracted attention because of their peroxidase-like activity. In this study, hydroxyl radicals (?OH) generated by MNPs-catalyzed degradation of H$_{2}$O$_{2}$ converted the N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DMPD) probe into its colored DMPD$^{•+}$ radical cation, which gave an absorbance maximum at λ = 553 nm. In the presence of antioxidants, $^{•}$OH was partly scavenged by antioxidants and produced less …

Quinoline moiety is an important scaffold in the field of drug discovery and drug development, with a wide range of pharmacological activities. Quinoline derivatives are potent inhibitors for reverse transcriptase, which is responsible for the conversion of single-stranded viral RNA into double-stranded viral DNA.In the present study, we have designed and synthesized 2 series, namely pyrazoline and pyrimidine containing quinoline derivatives as non nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Eleven compounds were synthesized and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR and mass spectrophotometry. The synthesized compounds were also docked on an HIV reverse transcriptase binding site (PDB: 4I2P); most of these …

Three new 2-component unsubstituted (4P), diiodo- (5P), and dibromo- (6P) distyryl-BODIPY-bridged cyclotriphosphazene dimers were designed and synthesized. The newly synthesized BODIPY-cyclotriphosphazene systems were characterized by $^{1}$H, $^{13}$C, and $^{31}$P NMR spectroscopy. The photophysical properties of the distryl-BODIPYs (4-6) and BODIPY-cyclotriphosphazene dyads (4P-6P) were studied by UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy. In these derivatives, the bino-type cyclotriphosphazene derivative bearing unsubstituted BODIPY unit 4 P exhibited high fluorescence and no singlet oxygen generation due to the lack of spin converter. The attachment of heavy atoms (iodine and bromine) enabled the production of singlet oxygen. The bino-type BODIPY-cyclotriphosphazenes (5P and 6P) were …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Choline derivatives were covalently immobilized on the surface of γ -aminated silica. The obtained immobilized choline derivative was then successfully used for a transesterification reaction to produce glycerophosphocholine (GPC). Fourier transform infrared analysis and thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal gravimetry indicated that the surface of the γ -aminated silica was covered by choline derivatives and the highest immobilization amount reached 1.1 mmol/g under optimal conditions. More importantly, the highest yield of GPC reached 97.9% during transesterification. With regard to GPC in food or medicine for human use, the immobilization technology can avoid catalyst contamination of the product and increase the safety of …

Synthesis Of Metallo-Supramolecular Materials Based On Terpyridine Functionalized Double-Decker Silsesquioxane With Improved Complexation Efficienc, Asuman Çeli̇k Küçük, Jun Matsui, Tokuji Miyashita

Silsesquioxane-based transition-metal complexes have come to the forefront due to the ability of silsesquioxane to control nanostructures and properties. However, some difficulties in complete complexation and purification limit the widespread use of transition-metal-based supramolecular coordination complexes comprising silsesquioxane. Herein, 2 different approaches have been proposed for the synthesis of metallo-supramolecular materials on the basis of ruthenium(II)-terpyridine functional double-layer silsesquioxane (DDSQ) (Tpy/Ru-DDSQ) (Routes 1 and 2). In Route 1, complexation was followed by functionalization of DDSQ with the ligand, whereas in Route 2, complexation was performed before the ligand was inserted into the DDSQ. Tpy/Ru-DDSQ obtained from both approaches was characterized …

PAn (polyaniline) and PAn/ZnO photocatalysts were synthesized using chemical polymerization of aniline. The structure characterization of the synthesized samples was analysed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transforminfraredspectroscopy(FT-IR),scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),transmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy measurements, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The photocatalytic activities of PAn and PAn/ZnO (0.1g/100ml) on the degradation of the Congo red (CR) dye were studied under the UV visible light irradiation and the lightless environment and the efficiency of catalysts have been explained in details. Contribution of UV visible light irradiation on the 100% degradation of CR dye for the PAn and PAn/ZnO photocatalyst is determined. The reaction kinetics …

A series of 1-(4-(2-allylphenoxy)butyl)piperidin-1-ium halides (4a-d) was synthesized and characterized via spectroscopic methods (FTIR, $^{1}$H NMR). The corrosion inhibition of the synthesized halides on carbon steel in water-salt-hydrocarbon environment, saturated with H$_{2}$S, was investigated. For this purpose, a series of techniques such as gravimetric measurement, potentiodynamic polarisation, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used and some thermodynamic parameters of corrosion process ($\Delta G_{ads.}$, $\Delta H^{0}_{ads.}$, $\Delta S^{0}_{ads.})$ were evaluated. The steel surface was checked by SEM, and the steel surface showed good surface coverage. The results showed that the synthesized compounds at the concentrations 125, 150 mg x L$^{-1}$ have …

Synthesis, Characterization And Crystal Structures Of Platinum(Ii) Saccharinate Complexes With 1,5-Cyclooctadiene, Ceyda İçsel
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Two new platinum(II) complexes, namely [PtCl(sac)(COD)] (1) and [Pt(sac)$_{2}$(COD)] (2) (sac $=$ saccharinate and COD $=$ 1,5-cyclooctadiene), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR, ESI-MS spectroscopic and thermal analysis (TG/DTA) methods. The platinum(II) complexes were prepared from the reaction of [PtCl$_{2}$(COD)] with Na(sac) • 2H$_{2}$O. The addition of the sac ligand resulted in the replacement of 1 and 2 chlorido ligands in [PtCl$_{2}$(COD)] to yield 1 and 2, respectively. The structures of the complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and showed a distorted square planar coordination geometry around platinum(II). COD acted as a $\pi $-donor ligand, …
