Progressive Commemoration: Public Statues Of Historical Women In Urban American Cities, Melanie D. Chin

Women who made notable accomplishments are underrepresented in commemoration. Some American cities have brought women to the forefront of becoming visible through commemoration in statues. This thesis compares the commemoration of historical women in four different American cities. Stakeholders hold the key to implementing and changing public policy to increase the visibility of women and people of color in public monuments. Cities which lack representation of women and people of color may learn from and follow the efforts of a leading city to achieve lasting and effective change in representing those who historically been underrepresented.

The purpose of this research was to analyze influences on separation decisions of active duty Air Force financial management officers. Researchers tested nine variables to determine their separation implications. The tested variables were major command, age, prior enlisted service, spouse, commissioning source, AFIT cost analysis master’s degrees, engagement, crystallization of job alternatives, and exhaustion. Results proved that age, prior enlisted service, having a spouse, and being an Air Force Academy or AFIT graduate correlates to whether a financial management officer will separate from the Air Force. There is no doubt that the NPT regime is far from being equal for all states involved. As the predominant hegemonic power since WWII, the United States plays a major role in deciding the fates of non-great power proliferators. This article tries to find the logical explanation of the phenomenon whereby some nuclear proliferators are absolved regardless of their active accumulation of nuclear arsenals while others are labeled as “rogue states” and ordered to disarm. Gun control as a response to gun violence is currently at the forefront of political debate in the United States. The foundation of this paper revolves around crime and real estate supported by background literature detailing external effects on real estate prices to set up the framework for the research on mass shootings and residential real estate values. The findings in this paper are based on 73 events involving mass shootings in the United States from 1996 to 2015. The day after winning the 2016 NCAA College World Series, Coastal Carolina moved from the Big South Conference to the Sun Belt Conference. This move required a ‘step-up transition’ in Football from Football Championship Series (FCS) to Football Bowl Series (FBS) competition. This transition will require increased investment in student scholarships, facilities, and travel. And, the University must increase its average paid attendance for home football games by 50% more than its former stadium capacity. The implementation of Title IX has increased women’s participation rates in intercollegiate athletics tenfold, yet women’s representation in athletic leadership remains marginal compared to men. As such, the purpose of this study was to understand the social construction of gender as it relates to intercollegiate athletic leadership at Eastern Michigan University. The study explored the history of sporting activities as a mechanism to shape and perpetuate masculine and feminine culture. Donaldson and Preston (1995) defined the three pillars of stakeholder as descriptive, instrumental, and normative. Because of their close alignment between the instrumental and normative pillars and the moral philosophies of utilitarianism and deontology, the latter became the default moral foundations of stakeholder theory. In this chapter, we argue that the moral foundation of the descriptive pillar, pragmatism, provides a moral foundation for twenty-first century stakeholder theory. As we show, pragmatism and its close cousin pluralism fits a stakeholder theory concerned with the descriptive questions that characterize current work in stakeholder theory. การศึกษาวิจัยนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษารูปแบบการขนส่งทางถนนสำหรับการกระจายพัสดุสายพลาธิการของกองทัพอากาศ และเพื่อเปรียบเทียบรูปแบบการขนส่งทางถนนระหว่าง การขนส่งแบบ Milk Run โดยผ่านทุก ๆ หน่วยในภูมิภาค, การขนส่งแบบ Milk Run โดยแบ่งเป็นหลายเส้นทางในแต่ละภูมิภาค, การขนส่งผ่านศูนย์กระจายพัสดุ และการขนส่งผ่านศูนย์กระจายพัสดุ ร่วมกับ Milk Run เพื่อหาแนวทางเลือกที่มีความเหมาะสมกับการกระจายพัสดุไปยังหน่วยในแต่ละภูมิภาค โดยใช้สถิติการขนส่งพัสดุปีงบประมาณ 2559-2560 นำโปรแกรมระบบสารสนเทศภูมิศาสตร์ (GIS) มาช่วยในวิเคราะห์การหาตำแหน่งที่เหมาะสม สำหรับใช้เป็นจุดกระจายพัสดุของแต่ละภูมิภาค รวมถึงนำการหาระยะทางขนส่งที่สั้นที่สุด (Optimal Solution) มาช่วยในการจัดเส้นทางการขนส่งพัสดุในรูปแบบ Milk Run ของแต่ละภูมิภาคอีกด้วย จากการศึกษาพบว่า รูปแบบการขนส่งผ่านศูนย์กระจายพัสดุ ร่วมกับ Milk Run ทำให้การขนส่งพัสดุในภาคเหนือมีต้นทุนต่ำที่สุด ซึ่งจะสามารถลดต้นทุนการขนส่งลงได้ 18.04 %, ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ รูปแบบการขนส่งแบบ Milk Run โดยแบ่งเป็นหลายเส้นทางในภูมิภาค ทำให้การขนส่งพัสดุมีต้นทุนต่ำที่สุด ซึ่งสามารถลดต้นทุนการขนส่งลงได้ 2.04 %, ภาคใต้ รูปแบบการขนส่งผ่านศูนย์กระจายพัสดุ ทำให้การขนส่งพัสดุมีต้นทุนต่ำที่สุด สามารถลดต้นทุนการขนส่งลงได้ 27.79 % และภาคกลาง ภาคตะวันออก และภาคตะวันตก การขนส่งพัสดุในรูปแบบเดิม (Direct Shipment) มีต้นทุนการขนส่งถูกที่สุด

Toward Conflict Or Compromise? How Violent Metaphors Polarize Partisan Issue Attitudes, Nathan P. Kalmoe, Joshua R. Gubler, David A. Wood

We know much about how opinion leaders drive mass partisan polarization with position-taking cues but little on how different message types polarize citizens, and who responds most to those messages attributes. This article contributes new insights by investigating how exposure to common violent metaphors interacts with audience personality traits to polarize partisans on issues. Building from research on conflict orientations, we theorize that aggressive rhetoric primes aggression in aggressive partisans, motivating greater intransigence on party positions. As a consequence, aggressive partisans are pulled further apart on issues, thereby reducing prospects for compromise. We find support for our predictions in two …
