Cooperative Learning Across The Business Curriculum, Wendy Klepetar, Virginia Arthur

Global Business Leadership Faculty Publications

This paper will present an innovative approach to business pedagogy, which we have introduced across the curriculum. We will describe how we have been using collaborative learning in our divergent disciplines of finance and law. It is our belief that traditional business curricula have taught inappropriate behavior to students. Organizational behavior classes introduce cooperative techniques that are abandoned when students enter the functional classes. Typical finance or law classes isolate people and force them into competition. This paper will present basic concepts of collaborative learning which emphasizes cooperation and interaction. We will explore the methods we are using to make …

Ua3/8/6 Report Of The Task-Force On Part-Time Faculty, Wku President's Office-Meredith

WKU Administration Documents

During the 1991 fall semester, President Thomas Meredith appointed a Task Force on Part-Time Faculty at WKU. He requested that the task force conduct a study and make recommendations to the university regarding such issues as part-time faculty compensation and benefits, rates of usage, quality of instruction, orientation and evaluation and administration and budgeting. The study was stimulated, in part, by the fact that the university has in recent years reached historic highs in the use of part-time faculty.

The Configuration Of Performance Appraisal: Investigating The Impact Of Leadership And Personality Using A Within- And Between-Supervisory Group Analysis, Steve Markham, W D. Murry, Dow Scott Jan 1992

The Configuration Of Performance Appraisal: Investigating The Impact Of Leadership And Personality Using A Within- And Between-Supervisory Group Analysis, Steve Markham, W D. Murry, Dow Scott

School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works

The key to improvfrig performance appraisals in organizations may be the leadership exchange processes that occur between managers and subordinates. We suggest two ways in which this might unfold: (a) the direct relationships among leadership attention, tenure with supervisor, and actual performance appraisal rating and (b) the cqnfiguration of these three variables around the organization's structure in which differences between supervisory groups are highlighted. Our findings suggest that all three variables are significantly related. For leadership attention and performance appraisal, an individual-level model best applies. A group model is implied for leaders~ip attention and tenure with supervisor, whereby entire supervisory …

A Pretension Of Place: The Industrialization Of Corn Belt Agriculture, 1940-1965, Philip Jeffrey Nelson

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

This study concerns both the causes and effects of the industrialization of Corn Belt agriculture during and after World War II. Although industrialization is certainly a fully cultural phenomenon, with a multiplicity of competing and augmenting causal agents involved in its genesis, industrial processes are the most salient and identifiable bases of modern economies. In their application to the Corn Belt's agricultural structure, techniques of industrial farming revolutionized almost every aspect of the agricultural experience. Farm size, machinery, power sources, capitalization, supplies, and populations have all changed in response to an almost single-minded adherence and adoption of a mechanicalchemical based …

Examining The Link Between Leader-Member Exchange And Subordinate Performance: The Role Of Task Analyzability And Variety As Moderators, Kenneth J. Dunegan, Dennis Duchon, Mary Uhl-Bien Jan 1992

Examining The Link Between Leader-Member Exchange And Subordinate Performance: The Role Of Task Analyzability And Variety As Moderators, Kenneth J. Dunegan, Dennis Duchon, Mary Uhl-Bien

Department of Management: Faculty Publications

Results from a field study with 152 members of a large urban hospital indicate that the relationship between the quality of leader-member exchange (LMX) and subordinate performance is moderated by perceptions of task analyzability and variety: LMX and performance are found to be significantly related when task challenge is either very high or very low. Under these task conditions, data indicate that there is a positive link between LMX and performance such that a higher quality leader-member exchange correlates with higher levels of performance. On the other hand, analyses also reveal that when tasks are perceived to be moderately challenging, …
