Faculty Articles
The article discusses result of a survey addressing the quality of work life among audit personnel in the U.S. The result shows that dissatisfaction in the work environment affects staff's performance. Creating customer value is one of the issues in business establishment. As stated, clients are demanding the expertise that comes with experiences. The quality of work environment may persuade outstanding staff members to pursue other career options. Financial rewards of public accounting are not the basis for changes in the rating of staff.
Philanthropic Partnerships: The Theory Of The Commons, Roger A. Lohmann
Philanthropic Partnerships: The Theory Of The Commons, Roger A. Lohmann
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
In Anglo-American traditions, the concept of a commons has historically been most frequently attached to shared land in joint use by a village or community. The common theory of voluntary action presents organized collective action as consisting of shared purposes, shared resources and voluntary participation resulting in an evolving sense of mutuality, and moral order, consisting of shared norms of fairness and participation.

The Relationship Between Machiavellianism, Self-Monitoring, And Adaptiveness To The Performance Of Real Estate Sales Professionals, Dianne Broman Eppler
The Relationship Between Machiavellianism, Self-Monitoring, And Adaptiveness To The Performance Of Real Estate Sales Professionals, Dianne Broman Eppler
Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration
The focus of sales management is on insuring the success of the corporation by selling its goods or services. The most significant impact on the firm's success is the ability of the sales force to perform. Research to determine what makes a successful salesperson is extensive; however, the results are inconsistent and disappointing. In light of the significant financial impact the sales force has on the firm, additional research that identifies determinants of sales success is necessary.
The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the relationships between personal characteristics and sales performance. Specifically, Machiavellianism, self-monitoring, and adaptiveness were hypothesized …

"Cobb" Flim Review, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
Was he the greatest ballplayer of all time? He thought so and told everyone who would and would not listen that he was. In the first voting for entrance into the Hall of Fame Ty Cobb out-polled all his rivals. Ernest Hemmingway thought so, calling him "the greatest of all ballplayers-and an absolute shit." In the film "Cobb" starring Tommy Lee Jones the later part of Hemmingway's assessment of the Georgia Peach is illustrated better than the former.

The Effects Of Supplier Fairness On Vulnerable Resellers, Nirmalya Kumar, Lisa K. Scheer, Jan-Benedict E. M. Steenkamp
The Effects Of Supplier Fairness On Vulnerable Resellers, Nirmalya Kumar, Lisa K. Scheer, Jan-Benedict E. M. Steenkamp
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
This study examines the role of supplier fairness in developing long-term relationships between relatively smaller, vulnerable resellers and larger, powerful suppliers. The authors conceptualize two components of fairness-distributive fairness, that is, the fairness of outcomes received by the reseller from carrying the supplier's line, and procedural fairness, the fairness of procedures and processes used by the supplier in relation to its resellers. Testing their hypotheses from the perspective of automobile dealers, the authors find strong evidence that vulnerable resellers' perceptions of both distributive and procedural fairness enhance their relationship quality, although these effects are moderated by the level of outcomes …
Economic And Monetary Union In Europe, Charalambos K. Demetriou
Economic And Monetary Union In Europe, Charalambos K. Demetriou
Theses
The plans for Economic and Monetary Union in Europe became difficult to achieve during the period 1992-1993. The convergence criteria set up in the Maastricht Treaty block the road towards unification. It is very complex to expect twelve governments with different shades of political colour and twelve states with different economic interests to compromise in such criteria (as inflation, government borrowing, exchange rate stability and interest rates) and eventually, speak with one voice at the end of this decade.
This current research provides significant modifications in The Maastricht Treaty , policy making, objectives, even changes in political behavior for better …

Gdss And Idea Generation: A Theoretical Examination Of Technology Supported Group Creativity, J. Robert Evaristo, Michael A. Eierman
Gdss And Idea Generation: A Theoretical Examination Of Technology Supported Group Creativity, J. Robert Evaristo, Michael A. Eierman
Journal of International Information Management
While the importance of creativity and innovation in organizations continues to grow, many organizations rely on questionable mechanisms such as group brainstorming and other such techniques to facilitate creativity. Group decision support systems (GDSS) promise to provide an effective means of enhancing group creativity. However, much of the research on GDSS focuses on group processes. This paper takes the position that the individual is the primary determinant of group creativity and develops a model of the individual process of idea generation. This model is applied to GDSS to examine the implications of this perspective on group creativity output.

The Evolution Of First Amendment Protection For Commercial Speech, Karl Boedecker, Fred W. Morgan, Linda Berns Wright
The Evolution Of First Amendment Protection For Commercial Speech, Karl Boedecker, Fred W. Morgan, Linda Berns Wright
Economics, Law, and International Business
During the past 15 years, the U. S. Supreme Court has used Central Hudson Gas v. Public Service Commission (1980) to expand significantly the power of the government at all levels to regulate advertising and other promotional activities. As a result, first amendment protection for commercial speech has steadily diminished. In this article, Supreme Court decisions subsequent to Central Hudson are reviewed to provide an update of Cohen's (1978) work. In addition, the current standard for identifying commercial speech is analyzed, and managerial recommendations are made to guide managers who are responsible for making promotional decisions in this increasingly restricted …

The exercise of judgment is not only essential to the practice of disciplines such as law, medicine and accounting, but is also what distinguishes these domains as professions (Boritz, Gaber & Lemon, 1987, cited in Gibbins & Mason, 1988). Recent advances in cognitive psychology research have given an impetus to research focusing on the nature of professional judgment, expert-novice cognition, heuristics and biases in decision making as well as decision strategies, the acquisition of knowledge and the effects of experience, and the development of expert/decision support systems (Ashton, 1982a; Smith & Kida, 1991; Chi, Glaser & Farr, 1988). Correlates Of Talkaholism In New Zealand: An Intracultural Analysis Of The Compulsive Communication Construct, Michael Z. Hackman, Craig E. Johnson, Tam Barthal-Hackman
Faculty Publications - College of Business
This study focused on correlates of the compulsive communication construct in New Zealand. Participants were 216 New Zealand university students who completed the Talkaholic Scale to measure their tendency to be compulsive communicators. Self-reports of communication apprehension, willingness to conununicate, argumentativeness, innovativeness, and self-monitoring were also completed. Results indicated a weak negative correlation with communication apprehension and weak positive correlations with argumentativeness and selfmonitoring. Differences in talkaholism between males and females were significant, but the amount of variance accounted for by biological sex was very small. This study provides further support for the distinctiveness of the compulsive communication construct and …
