A Theory Of Hard And Soft Information, Jeremy Bertomeu, Ivan Marinovic Sep 2026

A Theory Of Hard And Soft Information, Jeremy Bertomeu, Ivan Marinovic

Olin Business School Faculty Research

This paper studies a model of optimal disclosure via two comp eting communi- cation channels, hard information whose value has been veri fied and soft disclo- sures (e.g., forecasts, unaudited statements, press relea ses). We show that certain soft disclosures may contain as much information as hard dis closures and establish that: (a) exclusive reliance on soft disclosures tends to co nvey bad news, (b) cred- ibility is greater when unfavorable information is reporte d and (c) misreporting is more likely when soft information is issued jointly with har d information. We also show that a soft report that is …

From Kitchen To Canon: Women And Culinary Recognition Executive Summary, Eulanda A. Sanders, Andra Harris Sep 2026

From Kitchen To Canon: Women And Culinary Recognition Executive Summary, Eulanda A. Sanders, Andra Harris

ICHRIE Research Reports

Despite women comprising a majority of the U.S. restaurant workforce, they remain significantly underrepresented in culinary leadership and elite recognition. Using an exploratory, descriptive design that draws on secondary data from the ACS, NRA, U.S. Census Bureau, and the James Beard Foundation, this study maps gender disparities across the culinary career pipeline. Women represent approximately 54% of the restaurant workforce but only 24.8% of chefs and head cooks, with a substantial gender wage gap persisting across the occupation (NRA, 2026; U.S. Census Bureau, 2024). Of 402 James Beard Award winners analyzed, 71.6% were male and 28.1% female. Disparities intensify at …

The Impact Of Social Expectations And Gender Norms On Women Leaders' Marital And Partner Relationships And Their Influence On Workplace Outcomes, Hedi Kovacs-Resnik

Economic and Business Review

Leadership sustainability among women remains insufficiently explained in leadership research, as dominant models prioritise workplace factors, neglecting the role of private-life demands. This research explored how social expectations and gender norms influence women's private lives and how the emotional impact spills over into their leadership style and performance, thereby influencing their career progression. Using a qualitative design and thematic analysis of 18 interviews with women in leadership roles, the research examined what it means to lead while also navigating family and relationships.
The findings revealed that the boundaries between women's private and professional lives are almost nonexistent. Professional success often …

When Loyalty Intentions Fail: Evidence On The Intention–Behaviour Gap And Customer Retention In Mobile Telecommunications, Danilo Tomšič Sep 2026

When Loyalty Intentions Fail: Evidence On The Intention–Behaviour Gap And Customer Retention In Mobile Telecommunications, Danilo Tomšič

Economic and Business Review

This paper quantifies and explains the consumer intention–behaviour gap in mobile telecommunications and shows how it matters for competitive resource allocation. Using a two-wave longitudinal survey of 4887 consumers, I compare stated switching intentions at time t with self-reported provider choice at t + 1 and identify a 15.4% divergence comprising two forms: nonswitching intenders (consumers who intended to switch but did not) and switching nonintenders (consumers who did not intend to switch but did). Binary logistic models reveal temporal asymmetry in determinants. Among nonswitching intenders, higher baseline loyalty (satisfaction, repeat-choice commitment, and recommendation intention) lowers the likelihood of remaining …

All Works

The applications of machine learning and deep learning in demand forecasting have attracted increasing attention, as they offer remarkable predictive capabilities that help automate forecasting processes and achieve higher accuracy. While numerous review studies have examined solutions within specific industries, there is a lack of comprehensive literature review investigating these solutions across different sectors. Therefore, this study overviews machine learning and deep learning applications in demand forecasting across time-critical industries, including power, tourism, water, transportation, and food. A two-tier classification framework is proposed to categorize demand forecasting studies by both application industry and methodological architecture. In addition, the most popular …

The Game Within: An Anthropological Approach To Games And Play, Nehal Maged Mohamed Sep 2026

The Game Within: An Anthropological Approach To Games And Play, Nehal Maged Mohamed

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is based on an eighteen-month ethnography of El Ghawasa, an Egyptian play-based organization that designs educational games, tools, and services. Claiming that El Ghawasa, with its ethos of play, seeks to create an alternative to the capitalist corporate structure. Through tracking how this organization navigates ruptures, negotiates constraints, and experiments with different practices and internal restructuring, I explore the possibilities and limitations of El Ghawasa, while attempting to resist absorption by the very system it opposes. I ask: when the rules keep changing (while the logic of the capitalist corporate structure remains the same), and the boundaries of …

Inflation-Differential Rule Versus (De Facto Soft-Peg) Discretion: Exchange-Rate Management Approach In Developing Economies, Behnam Ebrahimi, Mohammad Vaez Barzani Dr. Sep 2026

Inflation-Differential Rule Versus (De Facto Soft-Peg) Discretion: Exchange-Rate Management Approach In Developing Economies, Behnam Ebrahimi, Mohammad Vaez Barzani Dr.

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

Many developing and emerging economies officially report a managed floating exchange-rate regime tailored with a fundamental exchange rate management approach, while in practice operating a de facto soft peg, characterized by discretionary, near-constant exchange-rate depreciation aimed at dampening inflation expectations. This discretionary approach—often justified as a pragmatic response to inflationary pressure—produces a hybrid regime that lacks the transparency and credibility emphasized in IMF policy guidance. This study evaluates whether substituting Discretionary Soft-Peg Exchange Rate Management approach with an Inflation-Differential Rule of Exchange Rate Management approach, which links exchange-rate adjustments to the inflation differential between domestic and rest of the world, …

Is The Crisis Over? Fostering Innovative Work Behavior In Response To The Constant Pressure Of Resource-Deficiency For Street Level Bureaucrats: The Impact Of Psychosocial Safety Climate, Teamwork, And Work Engagement, Yvonne Brunetto, Matthew Xerri, Geremy Farr-Wharton

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

There is conflicting evidence about the pathways Street Level Bureaucrats’ (SLBs’) use to engage Innovative Work Behavior (IWB). This study uses Street Level Bureaucrat (SLB) and Conservation of Resources (COR) to examine the extent to which SLBs’ work engagement and/or burnout mediates the relationship between Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) and teamwork, and IWB. The methods comprised a sample of 259 healthcare SLBs (doctors, nurses, allied health) collected at two times, and analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results show that the variance of PSC and teamwork explained a third of engagement, and engagement-burnout mediated the impact of PSC and teamwork …

Between Digital Transformation And Regulatory Vacuum: Cybersecurity Of Public Services In Mozambique, Faztudo Languisse Eng. Aug 2026

Between Digital Transformation And Regulatory Vacuum: Cybersecurity Of Public Services In Mozambique, Faztudo Languisse Eng.

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

The rapid expansion of digital public services in Mozambique—including e-government platforms, digital health systems, and electronic tax administration—has outpaced the development of a coherent legal framework for cybersecurity. While Law No. 3/2017 (Electronic Transactions Law) of 9 January 2017 introduced foundational data-protection principles, Mozambique long lacked a dedicated cybersecurity regulatory authority, mandatory security standards, and formal incident-notification mechanisms. This regulatory vacuum exposed critical public services to escalating cyber risks as digital transformation was actively promoted as a development priority. This article examines the legal and institutional gaps in Mozambique's cybersecurity governance framework prior to the 2026 Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Laws, …

This paper presents the design and implementation of a portable, scenario-based cybersecurity training platform housed in a single travel case and built from commodity hardware, type-1 hypervisor virtualization, containerized service orchestration, and software-defined networking. The platform clones, isolates, and resets complete lab environments on demand, allowing the same physical system to support repeated classroom, workshop, or field deployments with minimal manual reconfiguration. Training scenarios are grounded in generated organizational profiles …

Spiraling Up, Spiraling Down: A Multi-Level Study Of Social Value Creation And Community Capitals In A Mexican Social Enterprise, Karla M. Corres Luna Aug 2026

Spiraling Up, Spiraling Down: A Multi-Level Study Of Social Value Creation And Community Capitals In A Mexican Social Enterprise, Karla M. Corres Luna

Graduate Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation examines how a social enterprise creates social value and, through the same intervention, erodes it in the communities it serves. Research on social entrepreneurship has theorized value largely from the organizational viewpoint, measured it at a single point in time, and rested on an unexamined aggregation assumption: that gains delivered to individual households sum into well-being at the level of the community. This study holds that assumption up to community-level, participant-centered evidence. Through three qualitative studies of a participatory housing model implemented by a social enterprise in two informal settlements in Querétaro, México, it analyzes social value creation …

Debt Financing Cost And Green Innovation: The Conditioning Role Of Financing Dependence Structure In Chinese Manufacturing Firms, Hongzhuo Chen, Mohd Faizal Basri, Hazianti Abdul Halim Aug 2026

Debt Financing Cost And Green Innovation: The Conditioning Role Of Financing Dependence Structure In Chinese Manufacturing Firms, Hongzhuo Chen, Mohd Faizal Basri, Hazianti Abdul Halim

International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting

Debt-financing costs are generally considered to be restrictive for corporate innovation; however, their role in green innovation may be conditional rather than uniformly negative. Based on a sample of A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2023, this study examines whether this cost is related to green patenting and, more importantly, how this relationship varies with firms’ financing dependence structure. Green innovation can be reflected in the scale of total green patent applications and the depth of green invention applications. Based on the estimates, both indicators are positively correlated with the cost of debt, and the impact is relatively stronger for …

Knowledge Spillovers, Related And Supporting Industries, And Government Intervention: An Integrated Framework For Cluster-Driven Corporate Innovation, Qinying Lei, Lai-Ying Leong, Annie Cheng San, Ng Aug 2026

Knowledge Spillovers, Related And Supporting Industries, And Government Intervention: An Integrated Framework For Cluster-Driven Corporate Innovation, Qinying Lei, Lai-Ying Leong, Annie Cheng San, Ng

International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting

Late-developing inland clusters face a notable innovation paradox, in which substantial industrial capacity coexists with weak firm-level innovation. Existing research identifies knowledge spillovers, related and supporting industries, and government intervention as major external drivers of innovation, but pays limited attention to how these external conditions are transformed into corporate innovation capability. Drawing on Regional Innovation System Theory, Dynamic Capability Theory, and Porter’s Diamond Model, this study develops an integrated framework comprising seven propositions on direct effects, mediated pathways, and contextual variation. It proposes that cluster performance, defined as the effectiveness of cross-organisational coordination, mediates the relationship between external cluster conditions …

Cyber deception can produce high-confidence evidence of unauthorized activity in industrial control systems (ICS) and operational technology (OT), but practitioners must consider the technology useful, safe, understandable, and supported before they will use it. This study reports a secondary quantitative analysis of a deidentified survey of United States-based ICS and OT professionals to determine whether psychological and instructional factors predict adoption readiness and effective utilization beyond education, experience, and sector. Hierarchical ordinary least squares regression with HC3 robust standard errors was conducted on 262 complete cases. The demographics-only model was not significant and explained 2.8 percent of outcome variance. Adding …

Opengrcrmf: A Vendor-Neutral Framework For Teaching And Modeling Rmf Automation, Continuous Authorization, And Zero Trust Governance, Anand Janjal Aug 2026

Opengrcrmf: A Vendor-Neutral Framework For Teaching And Modeling Rmf Automation, Continuous Authorization, And Zero Trust Governance, Anand Janjal

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Abstract—Federal and regulated organizations continue to rely on document-centric Authorization to Operate (ATO) processes even as the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF), continuous monitoring guidance, Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), and continuous authorization initiatives require more continuous, evidence-driven risk management [1]-[3], [13], [15]. Manual System Security Plan (SSP) updates, spreadsheet-based Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) tracking, and disconnected assessment evidence create governance latency: the delay between operational security events and authorization-ready governance response. This paper presents OpenGRCRMF, a proposed open, vendor-neutral reference framework that models RMF lifecycle activities as workflow states, treats authorization artifacts as structured governance objects, and …

Personal Authenticity For Engagement And Transfer In Introductory Cybersecurity Education, Daniel T. Hickey, Ronald J. Kantor Aug 2026

Personal Authenticity For Engagement And Transfer In Introductory Cybersecurity Education, Daniel T. Hickey, Ronald J. Kantor

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Abstract—This conceptual/theoretical paper explores how personal authenticity might promote generative learning in introductory cybersecurity courses. Generative learning transfers confidently to future educational, professional, personal, and testing situations. This cycle of design-based research addresses the concern that more typical professionally authentic contexts (e.g., hospitals, banks, etc.) may be alien and overwhelming to many students, particularly those in introductory courses and/or from non-professional families and communities. If so, this leads to “inert” knowledge that does not transfer. Personal authenticity is rooted in expansive framing, a modern theory of learning transfer. We reframe expansive framing as personal authenticity to make it …
