A Survey Of Selected Corporate Practices Which Influence Exit Interviewing Techniques Among Kentucky Manufacturing Firms, Barry Landis Jul 1976

A Survey Of Selected Corporate Practices Which Influence Exit Interviewing Techniques Among Kentucky Manufacturing Firms, Barry Landis

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of the present study was to examine organizational practices related to exit interviewing techniques. Prior research has neglected the study of the variables which cause the use of the exit interview to fluctuate, focusing rather on the study of the validity and format of the exit interview. The present study, by means of a questionnaire, cross-tabulated certain independent variables with the dependent variables contained in the questionnaire and found that at least three independent variables significantly affected use of the interview: (1) the size of the company (2) unionization of the company and (3) the annual turnover rate …

Measurement Of Health Change: A Model For Patients In An Adult Intensive Care Unit, Marylou Kiley Jun 1976

Measurement Of Health Change: A Model For Patients In An Adult Intensive Care Unit, Marylou Kiley

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

This study introduces an index for quantifying the health status and changes in patients within an adult intensive care unit (ICU), driven by the need to evaluate the impact of telemedicine on healthcare delivery. The ICU Patient Assessment Profile consists of twelve observable parameters encompassing neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal functions. Each parameter receives a score, and weights derived through stepwise multiple regression and nonlinear optimization create a severity of illness index, SEVILL, applicable to both neurologic and non-neurologic patients. This index enables comparisons of individual patients over time and among similar patients, facilitating assessments of recovery rates. The thesis …

A Triage System For The Distribution Of Outpatient Appointments In A Neurology Department: Systems Description, Validation Of Triage System Results And The Report Of A Delphi Method Study For Evaluating Criteria Determining Appointment Urgency, Bruce L. Austin, Durjoy Kumar Chaudhuri, J. Conomy

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

This report addresses the challenge of effectively utilizing health care resources to meet legitimate and increasing health demands in contemporary American medicine. The delivery of health care, historically rooted in "cottage industry" models, has evolved into a limited commodity due to factors such as population growth, technological advances, and rising costs. Ensuring equitable and efficient utilization of health resources is essential for controlling costs, improving access, and fulfilling the health care system's purpose of alleviating suffering, managing health crises, and preventing disease. However, the health care delivery system faces significant issues, including regional maldistribution of resources and an imbalance between …

Patterns Of Management Thought: The Search For New Perspectives, Howard M. Carlisle May 1976

Patterns Of Management Thought: The Search For New Perspectives, Howard M. Carlisle

Faculty Honor Lectures

the past several years, I have noticed that the presenters have typically done two things: they have reviewed some of their most significant research or theoretical contributions, and they have engaged in some freewheeling speculations or prescriptions about future trends. I intend to do both of these tonight. I would like to report on several aspects of contingency or situational theories of management where I have done most of my publishing, and I would also like to express some personal concerns and prescriptions I propose to improve the effectiveness of organizations

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

The maldistribution of qualified medical personnel, which has plagued this country in recent years, has become a matter of serious concern for administrators and planners in the health care sector. Inner-city and small suburban hospitals have suffered the most from this unfortunate circumstance. At various levels, public administrators have attempted to remedy the situation. Telemedicine is one system that, in several widely different environments, has shown its potential in addressing the problem. One such system has been in experimental operation for some time in Cleveland, Ohio. Under a contract with the Health Care Technical Division of the National Center for …

Systems And Procedures Of Patients And Information Flow In The Outpatient Clinic Of A Large Health Center: A Systems Description, Critical Evaluation, And Recommendations For Improvement, Arnold Reisman, Joao Mello Da Silva, Joe Mantell May 1976

Systems And Procedures Of Patients And Information Flow In The Outpatient Clinic Of A Large Health Center: A Systems Description, Critical Evaluation, And Recommendations For Improvement, Arnold Reisman, Joao Mello Da Silva, Joe Mantell

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

Systems analysis methods were used to describe the existing procedures for patient and information flow in the outpatient clinic of a large metropolitan health center. The procedures were complex, and they fell short of being effective from the physicians’, the patients’, and the administrators’ points of view. They were the result of the dynamics of natural degradation during a period of institutional expansion and extension. The paper delineates, in operationally meaningful terms, the ultimate goals and the objectives for the Patient and Information Flow System as well as the processes to be used to achieve same.

A Study To Determine What Businessmen In Logan Know About The Cooperative Office Education Concept, Penelope Patz May 1976

A Study To Determine What Businessmen In Logan Know About The Cooperative Office Education Concept, Penelope Patz

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The first program of cooperative education was established in 1906, and by 1942 there were thirty programs in the country. During World War II, all cooperative programs were stopped in the interest of getting people through school as quickly as possible. When programs were resumed after the war, the pace picked up some, going from 26 programs in 1946 to 130 programs in 1968 (Ferris, 1969, p. 480).

The primary objective of cooperative vocational education is to turn out skilled, responsible young adults who upon graduation from high school can assume a productive place in our technical society. A successful …

A Study To Determine Why Forkner Shorthand Students Do Or Do Not Enroll In The Intermediate And Advanced Levels Of Shorthand At Utah State University, Mary Diskin

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Shorthand plays a very necessary part in preparing our office education students. There has been much discussion as to which type of writing system is more efficient. Some authorities in the field fee l that abbreviated longhand systems can be learned more easily than symbol systems.

According to Wagoner:

The usual advantages claimed for various abbreviated longhand systems are: the ease of converting from longhand to an abbreviated longhand system, a shorter learning period than a symbol system, and the ease of transcription. (1960, p. 21)

Since the Forkner system is based largely on what the learner already knows, the …

Bulletin No 3863 - Plants Which Cause Kimberley Horse Disease, A. L. Payne

Bulletins - 3000 - 3999

Crotalaria crispata and Crotalaria retusa (Rattlepod), two plants responsible for Kimberley horse disease*, are, unfortunately, fairly widespread throughout the Kimberleys. Both species are apparently toxic in all stages of growth.

This bulletin is to assist pastoralists to:-

• Identify the two plants;

• Recognise the type of country and conditions under which they grow; and

• Locate horse paddocks on country where the plants are least likely to occur.

Impact Of Metrication On Business In The United States, Barry F. Nass Apr 1976

Impact Of Metrication On Business In The United States, Barry F. Nass

Theses and Dissertations

This study is an examination of the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 and its resultant impact upon business and industry in the United States. The effects on business studied are international trade, ISO standards, data processing, personnel training and conversion costs. The study concludes that timely planning for the now inevitable conversion is absolutely essential to a smooth and least costly transition to the metric system, each man must be convinced of the desirability of the change and that he should contribute his share to making the change.
