Inventory Control Improvement Within The Discount Stores, Ernie Lee Robinson Jan 1983

Inventory Control Improvement Within The Discount Stores, Ernie Lee Robinson

Theses

This thesis examines strategies for improving inventory control in discount stores to maximize profitability and efficiency. It highlights four key factors affecting inventory management: optimum order timing, optimum order quantity, stockouts, and inventory shrinkage. Robinson emphasizes that discount retailers must carefully plan their stock replenishment processes to avoid excessive overstocking or running out of essential products during peak seasons.

The study discusses various inventory categories, including working stock, safety stock, remnant stock, seasonal stock, and pipeline stock, explaining their roles in maintaining a balanced supply. It also explores reordering methods, such as fixed quantity and fixed cycle reordering, to ensure …

Quality Control Circles And The United States, Herbert M. Hart Jan 1983

Quality Control Circles And The United States, Herbert M. Hart

Theses

The Quality Control Circle attempts to solve management and production problems using a participative management style. This study represents an analysis of how the Quality Control Circle emerged in Japan and efforts in the U. S. to Americanize the concept. It is important to note that participative management represents a single management style. This style is not recommended for every organization. Organizations must select the appropriate management style to accomplish conceived goals and the style must fit within their particular corporate culture. The Quality Control Circle is an outgrowth of participative management and is not-all inclusive of participative management ideals.

Motivation, Management Motivation, And Its Perceived Decline In American Bureaucratic Organizations In The Context Of Changing Attitudes And Values, Jon Lawrence Johnson Jan 1983

Motivation, Management Motivation, And Its Perceived Decline In American Bureaucratic Organizations In The Context Of Changing Attitudes And Values, Jon Lawrence Johnson

Theses

This Culminating Project represents an inquiry into the existence, applications, and parameters of human motivation and its impact on perceived management attitudes, values, and motivation to manage.

The topic is examined from three vantage points. Part I embodies a selective indoctrination in human motivation concepts and suggests relevant organizational applications and examples in illustration. The term "motivation" has evolved into a popular but often misapplied catch phrase. Therefore, a foundation in prominent human motivation theory is provided as precedent to issues subsequently discussed in the Project, to offer the reader an accurate base of subject knowledge.

Part II addresses the …

Can The Free Enterprise System Survive In An Ethically Schizophrenic Culture?, Richard C. Chewning Jan 1983

Can The Free Enterprise System Survive In An Ethically Schizophrenic Culture?, Richard C. Chewning

Robins School of Business White Paper Series, 1980-2022

The stock market remained on a virtual plateau from 1968 until 1983—hardly a sign of vigorous national health. Our long-term decline in productivity indicates economic anemia. The national debt continues to soar even when a President espouses fiscal conservatism and Congress passes the largest single tax increase in its history. There are also many social and political problems: decay in our inner cities; rising crime; environmental concerns; and many international crises. Under these pressures the culture is beginning to manifest some neurotic characteristics as it develops many negative attitudes. There is a growing sense of nonspecific guilt. We seem uneasy. …

A Multi-Item Multi-Component Two Echelon Model For Reusable Items In A Health Care Setting, Boudjelal Boukaabar Jan 1983

A Multi-Item Multi-Component Two Echelon Model For Reusable Items In A Health Care Setting, Boudjelal Boukaabar

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

Inventory systems in a health care setting include a multitude of items that are finitely reusable. Examples of such items are linen, glassware, silverware, patient gowns, towels, and, in general, all surgical implements that can be sterilized. Because the economic life of such items is rather long, they represent an investment which cannot be used elsewhere. In addition, the processing of these items might be very costly due to the required investment in the processing equipment and its maintenance, the labor and energy costs, and the high interest cost. As these costs have skyrocketed during the '70s, the cost of …

Accounting For Asserted And Unasserted Medical Malpractice Claims Of Health Care Providers And Related Issues; Statement Of Position 87-1;, American Institute Of Certified Public Accountants. Accounting Standards Division

Exposure Drafts, Comment Letters, and Statements of Position

This proposed statement provides guidance on applying generally accepted accounting principles in accounting for uninsured asserted and unasserted medical malpractice claims, captive insurance companies, retrospectively rated premiums, claims-made insurance policies, and trust funds of health care providers. The statement supplements the AICPA Hospital Audit guide. In general, the accrual of the estimated cost of uninsured asserted and unasserted medical malpractice claims should be based primarily on the health provider's own experience. A health care provider insured under a claims-made policy should accrue the cost of providing tail coverage at the end of the current period. A retrospectively rated insurance policy …

Life Styles And Psychographic Characteristics Of Elderly Consumers As Determinants Of Perceptions On Health Care, John Thanopoulos

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

It appears that in today’s United States, the burden of disease prevention is assigned to the consumer. This study examines perceptions, health related information, and demographic data of a sample of elderly Arkansas consumers, with respect to preventive health care. The 226 respondents of the survey are members of the Arkansas Household Research Panel and over fifty-five years of age.

The data gathered were subjected to standard parametric and nonparametric statistical tests, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and discriminant analysis. The analysis identified two major segments. One, with seventy percent of the total, consists of respondents having a predominantly positive attitude …

The Investigation Of Middle Managers’ Perceptions Concerning Factors And Conditions Necessary To Implement And Adapt Career Development Systems To Their Organizations, Gail A. Ganakas

Dissertations

This study investigated middle managers' perceptions concerning factors and conditions necessary to implement and adapt a career development system within an organization. More specifically, this study drew implications regarding the vital role played by middle managers in the initiation, implementation, and adaptation of a career development system in a large industrial organization.

Five research questions dealing with the role of middle managers in implementation of career development systems were investigated by means of an interview schedule developed by the researcher adapted from instruments developed by the American Management Association (Walker & Gutteridge, 1979) and Burack and Mathys (1980). The survey …
