A green mind-set can lead to a black bottom line. Becoming nvironmentally friendly can help boost brand image and ROi -- and pharma can get there with a few easy steps.

First, with about 90,000 sales representatives on the road, the industry could lead a revolution in transportation if it bought hybrid cars. By replacing the current fleet, the benefits would be substantial. Each hybrid is cheaper to maintain, more fuel-efficient, and leaves a far smaller greenhouse-gas footprint on the environment. Interest in the repertory grid technique has been growing in the IS field. This article seeks to inform the reader on the proper use and application of the technique in IS research. The methodology has unique advantages that make it suitable for many research settings. In this tutorial, we describe the technique, its theoretical underpinnings, and how it may be used by IS researchers. We conclude by detailing many IS research opportunities that exist in respect to the repertory grid technique.

There is a strong connection between deliberation and dialogue and commons theory Deliberative activity generally takes place within group settings that approximate the defining conditions of a commons. In addition, social capital, in the form of trust and a sense of mutuality, and construction of a new or reconstituted normative outlook typically result from successful deliberation and dialogue efforts. This poses several lessons for the practice of the practice of such discussions.

This paper explains the System of Environmental and Economic Accounting’s (SEEA) approach to environmental accounting flow systems and how this system is now being utilized in the creation of new Australian standards of accounting. The first part of the paper discusses in depth different accounting systems, primarily physical and hybrid accounting systems, as they relate to the measures set forth by the SEEA. The second part analyzes the differences between the SEEA’s gross accounting system in comparison to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) net accounting system. The Microcredit Impact: The Evaluation And Effects Of Microloans On Caboclos Communities Of The Tapajós River, Robert Chew

In 2002, Projeto Saúde e Alegria, an NGO dedicated to improving the health, education and socio-economic situation of rural caboclos communities of the greater Santarém region of Pará, began a microcredit program to facilitate the creation of alternative sources of income and poverty reduction within the communities. Three years later in 2005, the program was cancelled indefinitely due to low repayment rates. The following study attempts to identify and analyze what problems occurred within the microcredit program that led to the project’s eventual failure. Additionally, speculation into whether the program helped certain communities reduce poverty will also be investigated to …

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) have established a Cooperative Agreement (Co-op) entitled: “Scientific & Engineering Studies of the High-Level Waste Repository at Yucca Mountain (DE-FC28-04RW12232). The Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) administers the Co-op under project activity ORD-FY04-001. In accordance with 10 CFR 600.150, the HRC conducted an audit for the purpose of managing and monitoring project activities supported under the Co-op. The audit was limited to an investigation of technical productivity and schedule. Financial compliance and quality assurance compliance issues were outside the scope of this audit. …

Student Self-Assessment: A Tool For Engaging Management Students In Their Learning, Andy T. Dungan, Leigh Gronich Mundhenk

Organization Management Journal

This article discusses the use of student self-assessment (SSA) for formative and summative assessment in two undergraduate programs, a management program and a leadership program, to encourage students to become more engaged in their learning. Using action research, we used an iterative process of changing or refining our methods to accommodate the differences in our teaching environments, concluding that different methods may be desirable in different environments, and that students appear to benefit from SSA regardless of the method used. Marketing Scholarship: Evolving Research Standards, Karl Boedecker, Fred W. Morgan

Economics, Law, and International Business

Marketing academics endeavor to conduct research that contributes to the development of cutting edge theories and ideas about marketing. At the same time, they try to incorporate these research findings into their classes through the application of theories to the practice of marketing. Even so, marketing scholarship comes under intermittent attack for being arcane and irrelevant for practitioners. To explore this disconnect between theory and practice, we review the evolution of scholarly research in marketing. We identify the various definitions of scholarship that have evolved as business schools have matured. We conclude that marketing academics must make scholarly contributions, variously …
