Economic Analysis Of Rail Transportation System For Mineral King, Economics Research Associates
Economic Analysis Of Rail Transportation System For Mineral King, Economics Research Associates
Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers
The National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior requested Walt Disney Productions to submit data on the relative feasibility of two transportation systems to Mineral King, California. The alternatives were a modern all-weather highway, as proposed by the State Division of Highways, or a railroad. The original economic evaluation of Mineral King’s development potentials prepared by Economics Research Associates (ERA) and submitted to the U.S. Forest Service in support of an application for a use permit assumed a new highway. Dependence on rail transportation in lieu of an adequate highway has serious implications for both attendance and …
A Numerical Method For Constructing Tables For The Behavior Of Some Infinite Queueing Systems, U. Narayan Bhat, Stuart H. Mann
A Numerical Method For Constructing Tables For The Behavior Of Some Infinite Queueing Systems, U. Narayan Bhat, Stuart H. Mann
Research Reports from the Department of Operations
The need for the construction of tables of transition probabilities in the study of the behavior of queueing systems is discussed and general procedure of the preparation of such tables for the imbedded Markov chain analysis of the systems M/G/1 and G/M/1 is illustrated with the queue M/D/1. Two new measures of utilization and effectiveness are also proposed in the general context.

An Inquiry Into The Role Of The Realization Concept In The Income Determination Process, Stephen E. Snyder
An Inquiry Into The Role Of The Realization Concept In The Income Determination Process, Stephen E. Snyder
Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations
It has become commonplace to refer to accounting as the language of business. This analogy is usually made to emphasize that accounting is, in part, a communication process. As a language, accounting attempts to communicate financial information about the business environment to interested parties. The receivers of accounting information can be classified into one of two broad groups: managers of business firms and parties outside of the firm. The problems involved in reporting to the two different groups are in many ways almost unrelated to each other.

Transient Behavior Of Multi-Server Queues With Recurrent Input And Exponential Service Times, U. Narayan Bhat
Transient Behavior Of Multi-Server Queues With Recurrent Input And Exponential Service Times, U. Narayan Bhat
Research Reports from the Department of Operations
This paper addresses challenges in analyzing multi-server queues with recurrent input and exponential service times, where departure rates depend on server availability. Previous studies established equilibrium behavior for GI/M/s systems, focusing on imbedded Markov chains and long-term behavior. However, time-dependent behavior has only been explored for specific interarrival distributions or limited cases, such as s=2,3. General studies on waiting times emphasize equilibrium solutions but leave gaps in simpler methods applicable to GI/M/s systems. This paper seeks to address this gap by developing approaches for transient behavior, extending the understanding of queue dynamics beyond equilibrium states.
Economic Appraisal Of The Proposed Universal City Development Plan, Economics Research Associates
Economic Appraisal Of The Proposed Universal City Development Plan, Economics Research Associates
Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers
Universal City, owned by MCA Inc., encompassed some 410 acres adjacent to the Hollywood Freeway, gateway to suburban San Fernando Valley. In 1967, television and motion picture operations occupied approximately 200 acres of the total. MCA management believed that in future years approximately 140 acres would be adequate for studio operations. Economics Research Associates was retained to determine an appropriate land use program for the remaining 270 acres. Earlier studies completed since 1963 indicated the optimum development program was a mixture of urban land uses, including 1, 250,000 square feet of commercial office space, 3,000 high rise and garden apartment …

Disneyworld, near Orlando, Florida is to be a unique and ambitious new type of development. It will consist not only of an imaginative theme park built with the experience and knowledge gained in developing Disneyland, but will also contain a model community representing the optimum living patterns of the future. This model community, called EPCOT -- Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow -- will feature a town center with a full complement of commercial facilities, office space, and a cultural-recreation complex. The town center will be surrounded by residential areas and necessary community services, as well as an industrial park designed …
An Exploratory Study Of Naval Officer Counseling, Antone M. Weiler
An Exploratory Study Of Naval Officer Counseling, Antone M. Weiler
Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations
Naval officers are formally evaluated each year relative to their performance of duty, their character, and their ability to assume more responsible positions within the United States Navy. There is no requirement to counsel the officer on his performance duty. Therefore, counseling of an officer rarely, if ever, occurs and the evaluation report becomes merely a tool to be used by members of the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C.

Criteria For Effective Appraisal Of Junior Executives, Albert I. Pierce
Criteria For Effective Appraisal Of Junior Executives, Albert I. Pierce
Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations
One of the more important challenges facing responsible and conscientious managerial practitioners today is the identification and application of the criteria needed for effective appraisal of junior executives. The primary objective of this investigation of contemporary managerial practices relating to the appraisal of junior executives was to identify valid and reliable qualitative criteria. Focus and direction was provided by the hypothesis that there are available valid and reliable sets of qualitative criteria for effective appraisal of junior executives. The framework established for the conduct of this investigation included an attempt to define the management function and a concept of the …

Sheep Programmes For Esperance Settlers With Limited Finance, R J. Doyle, G. D. Oliver
Sheep Programmes For Esperance Settlers With Limited Finance, R J. Doyle, G. D. Oliver
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
FARMING in the Esperance region has now passed through the phase of experimentation into the phase of consolidation.
But not all new settlers are prosperous.
On occasions, a lifetime ambition to own and operate a farm has ended in failure because the settler has been forced through economic circumstances to give up his block.
Too often this follows the unequal struggle of trying to develop a block with too little capital.

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought
in this issue. . .
CROWDING the top of anybody's list of vital questions now facing the United States are automation, civil rights, the draft, the Great Society, taxes, and the war in Vietnam. It is beyond the charter of this journal to offer discussions of every major issue in every issue. Since most manuscripts reaching us are unsolicited, choices are limited somewhat by chance. And there are still contributors who have the mistaken notion that this is primarily a literary magazine, a historical journal, or a scholarly review requiring elaborate footnotes. Fortunately, the very number of manuscripts arriving here …
