An Investigation Of The Perceived Leadership Behavior Of First-Line Supervisors In Selected Manufacturing Plants, Robert Edward Holmes Jan 1971

An Investigation Of The Perceived Leadership Behavior Of First-Line Supervisors In Selected Manufacturing Plants, Robert Edward Holmes

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The first-line supervisor appears to be caught in a dilemma between the demands of his superior and the needs of his subordinates. This study focuses on the dilemma by describing and analyzing the leadership behavior of most and least effective first-line supervisors as perceived by superiors, subordinates, and by the supervisors themselves.

Two basic dimensions of leadership behavior, power-structure and consideration-sensitivity, were investigated by using a leadership rating questionnaire. Participating plants, listed in the Directory of Arkansas Industries, were twenty-three small manufacturers employing five or more production supervisors and 100 to 500 production workers. Participants in each plant were the …

Toward A Tuition Credit Allocation Methodology For Institutions Of Higher Learning, Arnold Reisman, Burton V. Dean, Robert R. White

Research Reports from the Department of Operations

This paper describes a methodology developed at the Case Western Reserve University for the purposes of more rationally keeping track of the costs of education and for the allocation of tuition revenue credits. One of the co-authors recognized the lack of a database necessary for more rational decision making. This paper reports on a methodology designed to provide the tuition element segment of such a base.

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

FLEXIBILITY and informality of administration, operation, and organization have been among the hallmarks of this journal since its inception ten years ago; to them, add interchangeability of parts. When the Editor in Chief had a semester's leave in 1964, REBECCA PATTERSON moved easily into his chair to keep contributors happy= printers contented, and subscribers satisfied. Now the shoe is on the other foot: She is on sabbatical after a gruelling fall's work, and he is spread thinner than ever, from the Department of History in Russ Hall to the editorial suite in Porter Library. Fortunately …

A Study Of The Reasons For The Salary Differential Between Professional Staff Members At The University Of Utah And Utah State University, Terrance R. Volb May 1968

A Study Of The Reasons For The Salary Differential Between Professional Staff Members At The University Of Utah And Utah State University, Terrance R. Volb

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Salary differentials by rank were studied at the University of Utah and Utah State University on a departmental basis.

Multiple regression equations were developed from criteria at Utah State University which were used to predict individual salaries for professional staff members at the University of Utah. Thirteen of the fourteen multiple regression equations developed showed statistical significance at the .05 level and twelve departments were significant at the .01 level.

Salary comparisons by rank were considerably reduced as a result of the department by department analysis.

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

CROWDING the top of anybody's list of vital questions now facing the United States are automation, civil rights, the draft, the Great Society, taxes, and the war in Vietnam. It is beyond the charter of this journal to offer discussions of every major issue in every issue. Since most manuscripts reaching us are unsolicited, choices are limited somewhat by chance. And there are still contributors who have the mistaken notion that this is primarily a literary magazine, a historical journal, or a scholarly review requiring elaborate footnotes. Fortunately, the very number of manuscripts arriving here …
