The History Of The American Fruit Industry In The Caribbean, Oliver Eller Irons Jan 1929

The History Of The American Fruit Industry In The Caribbean, Oliver Eller Irons

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The Caribbean countries have attracted increasing interest from students of American political history and the more their history is investigated, the more do we realize the growing significance of the role played by American capital in the development of their industries. The literature of tropical agriculture is coming to be more extensively available but until only recently has this subject received slight attention from our writers. The concentration of any attention on the fruit phase of tropical agriculture by American students of history and economics has been nearly wholly lacking, as well as receiving only scant attention from writers not …

Development Of China's Export Trade, 1901-1925, Yu Jung Huang Jun 1928

Development Of China's Export Trade, 1901-1925, Yu Jung Huang

Historical Dissertations & Theses

If we want to understand thoroughly China's future potentiality, we must give our attention to her exports. Although the Portuguese have had direct trade with China since the sixteenth century, followed by Spanish, Dutch, and British traders, and although American ships were found in the waters of South China during the early nineteenth century, it was not until the beginning of the twentieth century that trade with the western world was actually opened. Since that time China's foreign trade has increased rapidly, especially her exports.

Some of the dissertations and theses below reflect the time period in which they were …

Working Women Of The Orient, Harriet Schilling

Education And Progress In The Profession Of Accountancy, Samuel Letwin Jun 1926

Education And Progress In The Profession Of Accountancy, Samuel Letwin

Bachelors’ Theses

The growth of business as a profession has been largely a growth of American industry. It is because of industry and business that our schools, colleges, and standards of education have been made possible; and it is to business and industry that we must in the future look to our continued growth along educational and scientific lines. Business therefore merits the dignity and respect accorded the recognized professions. Business is not a new farce in the world, it is only its present prominence that is without precedent. Modern business governed by economic forces and social obligations is the force on …

French Indo-China In Its Relation To American Trade Expansion In The Orient, Edgar Theiler Jun 1926

French Indo-China In Its Relation To American Trade Expansion In The Orient, Edgar Theiler

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis seeks to accomplish three main purposes: First, to show the need of America for new markets; second, to encourage American trade in the Orient; and, third, to submit a plan whereby the United States could acquire French Indo-China and establish an entrepot in the Far East for American foreign trade. The plan proposed is a complete and unconditional transfer of French Indo-China to the United States as payment for the French war debt and accrued interest. In the analysis of the financial situation of France, much stress has been laid on the reference: "The French Debt Problem"-by H. …
