Biosecurity Research Articles

Commercial export from Australia of native birds, wild or captive bred, is prohibited. This paper firstly describes the current legislation and regulations that restrict the export of native birds and discusses why governments have adopted such a regulatory approach to bird species preservation. Secondly, the paper reviews the debate concerning the export ban, pointing out strengths and weaknesses in arguments and indicating the important role of CITES. Lastly, the paper outlines a new case for a conditional lifting of the ban, whereby DNA fingerprinting is used to establish transferable property rights to overcome a main source of market failure in …

Accounting In The Thirteenth Century Manuscripts On Estate Management, Robert M. Kozub Apr 1994

Accounting In The Thirteenth Century Manuscripts On Estate Management, Robert M. Kozub

Accounting Historians Notebook

References to the accounting system used for manors are contained in three early manuscripts on estate management. These early manuscripts dealt with husbandry, that is, the wise use of resources, and were addressed to the lords of the estate. Each manuscript provided practical hints intended to aid individuals in the management of their business affairs. Although the institutions and practices referred to in these manuscripts have long since passed away, these treatises provide a fairly complete picture of the life in a thirteenth century manor. The authors dealt: simply with the matters of ordinary experience and did not attempt to …

Graphical Oodb Modeling For Medical Information Standards (Gommis), Jiping Liu

Theses

The graphical representation of database schemata has been a useful tool for the designer and users of database systems. Such a tool for OODB schemata should incorporate a wide variety of symbols which cover most concepts of existing Object-Oriented Database (OODB), so it is sufficient to support a diverse group of object-oriented data models.

In this paper we created a. graphical representation, using the OOdini system and language, of the European Prestandard for Medical Informatics on Message Exchange of Laboratory Information. This European Prestandard describes a standardized format for messages to be exchanged between a. health care provider and a …

End Users' Perceptions Concerning Computer Applications Implemented In Broadcast Stations, Barbara A. Schuldt, Judith M. Thorpe

Journal of International Information Management

In an era of limited resources, organizations must scrutinize every purchase carefully. A critical and sometimes very expensive purchase is for computer hardware and software. The reasons for the purchase are generally given as productivity improvements or personnel reductions. However, assessment of why computer applications are really implemented from the end users' perspective has not been reported. In order to answer questions to justify expenditures it would be helpful to understand how end users perceive the reasons for implementation of computer applications in their stations. To this end a questionnaire was sent to all broadcast radio and TV stations in …
