Faculty Books and Monographs

UNOAI Report 02-2

The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) was developed and first announced in early 1991 as an objective method of comparing airline quality on combined multiple performance criteria. This current report, Airline Quality Rating 2002, reflects monthly Airline Quality Rating scores for 2001. AQR scores for the calendar year 2001 are based on 15 elements that focus on airline performance areas important to air travel consumers.

The Airline Quality Rating 2002 is a summary of month-by-month quality ratings for the 11 largest U.S. airlines operating during 2001. Using the Airline Quality Rating system of weighted averages and monthly performance …

Interim Brigade Combat Team (Ibct) Munitions Distribution Study, Todd S. Bertulis Mar 2002

Interim Brigade Combat Team (Ibct) Munitions Distribution Study, Todd S. Bertulis

Theses and Dissertations

This research sought to describe an alternative way for calculating expected back order (EBO) for reparable inventory systems. The high costs associated with reparable items management, together with its importance for system's availability, make the assessment of back orders of great importance in supporting decisions of what-to-buy and where-to-locate those items. Starting at the point that existing models (METRIC, MOD-METRIC, and VARIMETRIC) rely on some assumptions that often cannot be met in real life, the proposed method (called P-METRIC), which is a mix of simulation and mathematical analytical model, relaxes assumptions about Demand, Time to Repair (TTR), and Ordering & …

Modeling Aerospace Ground Equipment (Age) Usage In Military Environments, Ilhan Kaya Mar 2002

Modeling Aerospace Ground Equipment (Age) Usage In Military Environments, Ilhan Kaya

Theses and Dissertations

There is a wide array of multi-attribute decision analysis methods and associated sensitivity analysis procedures in the literature. However, there is no detailed discussion of sensitivity analysis methods solely relating to additive hierarchical value models. The currently available methodology in the literature is unsophisticated and can be hard to implement into complex models. The methodology proposed in this research builds mathematical foundations for a robust sensitivity analysis approach and extends the current methodology to a more powerful form. The new methodology is easy to implement into complex hierarchical value models and gives flexible and dynamic capabilities to decision makers during …

Moving Beyond Product Innovation In Tourism: Benefits And Challenges, Mary O'Rawe Jan 2002

Moving Beyond Product Innovation In Tourism: Benefits And Challenges, Mary O'Rawe

Books / Book chapters

Many difficulties still exist in translating innovation theories into action in the tourism industry. A substantial literature base is now in place addressing innovation typologies and methodologies and assessing organisational structures, cultures and sizes. Despite this, transferring leading-edge research on organisational innovation and creativity into pragmatic strategies for tourism enterprises has not been fully successful. The most cited and obvious form of innovation is product innovation. It is on this basis that the success of organisations is often judged. In tourism, this criterion for measuring innovativeness is flawed. It encourages companies to spend heavily on visible product changes, often at …

Filling Preposition-Based Templates To Capture Information From Medical Abstracts, Gondy Leroy, Hsinchun Chen Jan 2002

Filling Preposition-Based Templates To Capture Information From Medical Abstracts, Gondy Leroy, Hsinchun Chen

CGU Faculty Publications and Research

Due to the recent explosion of information in the biomedical field, it is hard for a single researcher to review the complex network involving genes, proteins, and interactions. We are currently building GeneScene, a toolkit that will assist researchers in reviewing existing literature, and report on the first phase in our development effort: extracting the relevant information from medical abstracts. We are developing a medical parser that extracts information, fills basic prepositional-based templates, and combines the templates to capture the underlying sentence logic. We tested our parser on 50 unseen abstracts and found that it extracted 246 templates with a …

Oldest Writings, And Inventory Tags Of Egypt, Richard Mattessich

Accounting Historians Journal

Gunter Dreyer's Umm El-Quaab I: Das pradynastische Konigsgrab U-j und seine fruhen Schriftzeugnisse presents comprehensively the results of archaeological diggings in the tomb U-j. It also outlines Dreyer's claim to have discovered the origin of writing. The primary aspect of this review essay is to draw the attention of accounting historians to Dreyer's book and to the claim therein to have discovered the earliest known writing. Since this discovery is closely connected to an accounting function (though in a somewhat different way from that of the Sumerian proto-cuneiform writing), a review of Dreyer's book is well justified. Dreyer's claim is …

Personal Account Books Of Sir Walter Scott, Sam Mckinstry, Marie Fletcher Jan 2002

Personal Account Books Of Sir Walter Scott, Sam Mckinstry, Marie Fletcher

Accounting Historians Journal

This study examines the personal account books of Sir Walter Scott, the world-renowned Scottish author, a topic not explored before by Scott scholars or accounting historians. It sets the account books in the context of Scott's accounting education and experience, which took place at the time of the Scottish Enlightenment, an 18th century movement which saw a great flowering of writings on accountancy in Scotland as well as considerable progress in the arts and sciences. The style, layout and content of the account books is also studied from the point of view of elucidating Scott's domestic financial arrangements and expenditure …
