The Historicity Of Shakespeare's English Queens, Winifred Constance Clink Jan 1951

The Historicity Of Shakespeare's English Queens, Winifred Constance Clink

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Critics, whether in the field of history or of literature, have generally agreed in their evaluation of the historical worth of Sheakespear's English history plays. Tillyard finds that the dramatist"... compressed into a popular and lively form an astonishing quantity of sheer historical fact.1 The historian, James Gairdner, proclaims him as an "unrivalled interpreter" who succeeds in presenting not only a general conception of the period from Richard II through the reign of Richard III, but nearly the entire sequence of important happenings. J. A. R. Marriott claims Shakespeare's history to be sound beyond question, and continues

A Study Of The Relationship Between Hand Preference And Motor Ability In Secondary School Pupils, James Lynn Shannon Jan 1951

A Study Of The Relationship Between Hand Preference And Motor Ability In Secondary School Pupils, James Lynn Shannon

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This study was undertaken in an effort to determine whether or not left-handed students achieve as high pro- ficiency as do right-handed students in secondary school subjects which require motor ability. This problem came to the attention of the writer after he had examined the pre- vious writings in the general field of inquiry. It was found that mich of the material contained in these earlier studies had to do with the probable causes of handedness and what the effect would be to change a sinistral indi- vidual to dextral usage. Less material was found concern- ing the relative success …

Religious Beliefs And Practices At Irelya, New Guinea, As Reported By Natives, Willard Bruce Nov 1950

Religious Beliefs And Practices At Irelya, New Guinea, As Reported By Natives, Willard Bruce

Concordia Theological Monthly

Among the world's islands New Guinea is second in size only to Greenland. With 312,000 square miles, it is roughly equal to the combined areas of Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. In two features of its physical geography it is unique. No other of the larger islands has such a great proportion of mountainous country; and no area of like size anywhere else in the world has such high rainfalls. No one knows how many people inhabit New Guinea, but the Australian Commonwealth Office of Education estimates that in the eastern half alone there are at least 1,050,000 …

Reconciliation And Justification, Adolf Koeberle Sep 1950

Reconciliation And Justification, Adolf Koeberle

Concordia Theological Monthly

Only he can understand the concept "reconciliation" who has experienced the implications of the separation between God and man and between man and God. He who ignores this mysterium iniquitatis and refuses to see the wide chasm between the holy God and the guilty creature cannot comprehend the glory of the concept "atonement," but on the contrary will in a rebellious spirit be offended at it.

The Sacerdotai Office Of Christ According To The Letter To The Hebrews, George Stoeckhardt Aug 1950

The Sacerdotai Office Of Christ According To The Letter To The Hebrews, George Stoeckhardt

Concordia Theological Monthly

By His one sacrifice Christ has obtained an eternal salvation, which requires nothing to supplement it. By His sacrifice our sins are expiated once and for all, and our iniquity is atoned. In the very center of our Christian faith stands this Jesus Christ, who on the great Day of Atonement of the New Testament died and shed His blood for us. But even though Christ sacrificed Himself only once, even though the real work of redemption and reconciliation is completed, yet Christ has not relinquished His high-priestly office. The Epistle to the Hebrews throughout directs our attention to the …

The University Of Richmond And Her War Effort, 1939-1945, Robert Richard Shotzberger Aug 1950

The University Of Richmond And Her War Effort, 1939-1945, Robert Richard Shotzberger

Master's Theses

On December 7, 1941, the Japanese made their sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, and the United States was at war. This marked the second time within a quarter of a century, and the fifth time in the history of the University, that war clouds hovered over the United States. During World War I, the University vacated its new campus (the present site) in favor of the United States War Department. The campus and all of the buildings were used for hospital purposes. Thousands of soldiers, wounded on the Western Front, were hospitalized in the buildings on the new campus. These …

The Christian And Government, A. M. Rehwinkel Jul 1950

The Christian And Government, A. M. Rehwinkel

Concordia Theological Monthly

The form of government under which we live is a democracy. "Democracy" means rule by the people. It means that sovereignty in a democracy is vested in the people, and "sovereignty" means supreme power. We, the people of the United States, are the sovereigns of this nation. The Government officials in Washington, in our State capitals, and in the seats of our municipal governments are our agents and delegates bound to respect the will of the people. But this also means that the people are responsible for the attitude and actions of their government. Every privilege has a corresponding responsibility, …

The Resurrection Of The Body In Its Significance For Sanctification, Paul Single Jun 1950

The Resurrection Of The Body In Its Significance For Sanctification, Paul Single

Bachelor of Divinity

It is the purpose of this paper to consider the import of the placement of the resurrection of the body into the Third Article of the Creed, showing the significance which the resurrection of the body has for sanctification. In order to do this it will be necessary to trace the importance ascribed to the body from the creation of man at the beginning of the world to the final consummation in heaven. It will be shown that the body is included in the eternal purpose of God and in His acts concerning man, and it will be pointed out …

The Authorship Of "The French Chronicle Of London", David Richardson Tweet May 1950

The Authorship Of "The French Chronicle Of London", David Richardson Tweet

History ETDs

Only by careful analysis of the complete text can any determination be made as to authorship. Identification of the chronicler by name would help one to evaluate his writings more accurately. It would make possible an examination of his career to ascertain the prejudices which may be contained in his chronicle. If his name is not forthcoming, there may appear certain salient facts regarding his place of residence, occupation, social class, and political views. For example, if he is consistently interested in describing battle tactics and the minor details of warfare, this might suggest that he was a soldier. His …

The Extent And Influences Of The Holiness Revival In America, 1860-1900, Robert D. Bletscher May 1950

The Extent And Influences Of The Holiness Revival In America, 1860-1900, Robert D. Bletscher

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Few factors have shaped the history of our nation more than the factor of religion. This has been especially true during the times of great revival endeavor. Beginning with the Great Awakening, in the middle part of the eighteenth century, and extending to the present, America has been blessed with several revival movements which have helped to preserve her mighty heritage. Their influences have been manifold, touching every aspect of life. They have affected the social, economic, political, and moral life of the nation.

These revivals have been widely different in nature and sphere of influence. They have affected different …
