The Administration Of Justice In Communist China, John Joseph Mullane Jr. Jan 1959

The Administration Of Justice In Communist China, John Joseph Mullane Jr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The tide of warfare that swept the Chinese mainland culminated in the birth of a new government. The People's Republic of China was formally proclaimed on October 1, 1949. The Common Programme, which was adopted by the People's Political Consultative Conference and which be- came the law of the new regime, was the first law enacted to cover the administration of justice. The law presently in force, relating to the same subject matter, is the Constitution of 19542 adopted by the National People's Congress on September 20, 1954.

A Study Of Early Utah-Montana Trade, Transportation, And Communication, 1847-1881, L. Kay Edrington Jan 1959

A Study Of Early Utah-Montana Trade, Transportation, And Communication, 1847-1881, L. Kay Edrington

Theses and Dissertations

Only a few hardy men had ventured into America's intermountain west prior to the year 1847. Arriving in this year, the Mormons, under Brigham Young, slowly conquered parts of the Great Basin and within a few years had produced a self-sustaining agricultural economy. production of a surplus in farm products awaited only the emergence of a "foreign" market. This market was soon forthcoming.

The developing process of Utah-Montana relations from 1847 through 1881 was a natural occurance. From the very first, men from Utah traveled northward. The Mormon experiment at Ft. Lemhi during the late 1850's was a prime example …

Daniel 8:14 And The Latter Days, Desmond Ford Jan 1959

Daniel 8:14 And The Latter Days, Desmond Ford

Master's Theses

Does Daniel 8:14 have an eschatological application? This is the problem considered in this thesis. A survey of scholarly works of exegesis in the field of Daniel 8 makes it quite evident that the majority of commentators through the centuries have limited the application of the prophecy to Maccabean times. In the nineteenth century a host of interpreters came to the conclusion that Daniel 8 was of special significance for their own age, and these writers stressed the belief of many post-Reformation scholars that Rome rather than Antiochus fulfilled the specifications of the little horn, and that the 2300 days …

A Study Of The Self Concept Of Sankhya Yoga Philosophy, Francis Victor Catalina Jan 1959

A Study Of The Self Concept Of Sankhya Yoga Philosophy, Francis Victor Catalina

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Man's prime interest is man. This interest has been and still is the prime mover in all that man does. For no matter what his method, he is ultimately seeking to solve the riddle of himself. It is imperative that he obtain this information so that he may be better able to direct himself in the fulfillment of his being. Thus, it is the connate objective of all men, in their own diverse ways, to seek the essence, the 'ding an sich, that which makes man man. In this search many efforts have been and are still being made. Each …

A Semantic Study Of Ecclesia Before 100 A.D., Harold Edwin Cline Jan 1959

A Semantic Study Of Ecclesia Before 100 A.D., Harold Edwin Cline

Graduate Thesis Collection

In studying the background and origin of meaning for this word [ecclesia], this paper will seek to investigate the pagan, the Jewish, and the Christian literature in this order. Of couse, as the preliminary discussion has so far indicated, the primary weight and burden of study will be upond the Septugintal influence. The three stages to be developed are reminiscent of the comment of R.C. Trench in his opening comments concerning ecclesia. He named them as heathen, Jewish, and Christian. The development of these stages will be united and brought together to make some pertinent conclusions in the final chapter …

Brigham Young's Philosophy Of History, H. Carleton Marlow Jan 1959

Brigham Young's Philosophy Of History, H. Carleton Marlow

Theses and Dissertations

"Brigham Young's Philosophy of History" attempts to describe how Brigham Young gave order and unity to the hubbub and confusion in which man lived. The laws which gave form and pattern to the baffling, diverse phenomena of and around man receive major attention. This thesis is an expository type of writing rather than an evaluation of Brigham Young's ideas and principles or laws in reference to other philosophies of history, Latter-day Saint theology, the modern natural exact sciences, or in reference to the current views of his times. This thesis is limited to a digestion of Brigham Young's works in …

The Chinese Community In Malaya, Singapore And British Borneo, Ralph E. Lierheimer Jan 1959

The Chinese Community In Malaya, Singapore And British Borneo, Ralph E. Lierheimer

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The Chinese community in Malaya, Singapore, and British Borneo, as in all of Southeast Asia, is in the early stages of a radical change. This ethnic group, which already holds virtual control of the economy of these three regions, is now finding it necessary to also reach out for political representation, or even political control, in order to preserve its place in local society.

Such participation in local affairs constitutes a great change for a group which has always maintained an orientation toward China, socially and politically, wherever its individuals might happen to live. The process of change is bound …

The Eschatology Of Acts And Contemporary Exegesis, Robert H. Smith Sep 1958

The Eschatology Of Acts And Contemporary Exegesis, Robert H. Smith

Concordia Theological Monthly

For half a century New Testament exegesis has stood at the center of a storm over eschatology, and the eye of this storm is not all calmness. Two different exegetes skillfully and deliberately lay open the same passage of Scripture and arrive at conclusions that collide head on. Scholars disagree not only concerning what the New Testament says but especially about what the New Testament means in its eschatological statements.

The Anabaptists And Their Rejection Of Infant Baptism, James T. Heinemeier Jun 1958

The Anabaptists And Their Rejection Of Infant Baptism, James T. Heinemeier

Bachelor of Divinity

Rather than being an exhaustive study of perhaps one of the reasons or the Anabaptists' rejection of infant baptism, this thesis presents a somewhat broader look at the background of the movement, and the social, political, and theologica1 attitudes of the Anabaptists, followed by a more thorough investigation of five of the particularly fundamental objections the Anabaptists raised against infant baptisrn. The writer shall attempt to be as objective as possible in presenting the material contained in the body of the thesis. His subjective evaluation and conclusions are contained in the last chapter.

The Problem Of Polygamy In The Chrisitan Church Of West Africa, Paul Bartling Jun 1958

The Problem Of Polygamy In The Chrisitan Church Of West Africa, Paul Bartling

Bachelor of Divinity

The general scope of this study takes in the wider area of West Africa and is not confined to Nigeria or Calabar Province, where the Lutheran Church is concentrated. The scarcity of adequate and accurate documentary materials covering this particular area demands the broader and more general picture. The writer, wherever possible, has availed himself of the familiar materials pertaining to the situation of the Ibibios of South-Eastern Nigeria. While many references are specific to a certain given situation, it is held that they conform to the overall pattern found in West Africa.

A Historical Study Of Church Music Reform, Glen M. Buffman May 1958

A Historical Study Of Church Music Reform, Glen M. Buffman

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Music has been and is an integral part of the life of the Christian Church. History reveals that from the very beginning of the Church, and on through the ensuing centuries, music has played a vital role in the worship of the Church, and has even had a part in the development of the expression of the Christian faith.

The contemporary Christian Church has evidences of producing a complex pattern of church music which is unprecedented in history. In the first place the church life of today has rapidly become decentralized, through the increasing emphasis on departmentalization of the Church …
