An Historical Critique Of The Emergence And Evolution Of Ernesto Che Guevara's Foco Theory, Matt D. Childs Oct 1995

An Historical Critique Of The Emergence And Evolution Of Ernesto Che Guevara's Foco Theory, Matt D. Childs

Faculty Publications

This article provides an analysis of Ernesto Che Guevara's theory of guerrilla warfare, the foco. The numerous changes to the originalfoco thesis, as presented in Guerrilla Warfare (1960), are examined in detail covering two dozen articles, speeches, essays, interviews and books authored by Guevara, Castro and Debray while stressing their relation to national and international politics. The author argues that there was an apparent discourse between Cuban politics and the numerous changes in Guevara's writings. Juxtaposing changes to the foco theory from 1960 to 1967, to Cuban historical events, reflects the political expedience of the 196os and the primary …

Core Values: Backbone Of A Movement, Kent R. Hunter Oct 1995

Core Values: Backbone Of A Movement, Kent R. Hunter

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

In the last 10 to 20 years, the Church Growth Movement has proliferated in at least three dimensions. First, the Movement has proliferated by topics. In the last decade or so, we have seen church growth leaders concentrate on mega-churches, metachurches, philosophy of ministry, understanding secular people, mission statements, the age wave, builders, boomers, busters, lifestyle evangelism, vision, change, small groups, Sunday Schools, breaking barriers, etc. In a second dimension, there has been proliferation in other ways. Not only was there the founding of the American Society for Church Growth, but there Church Growth Associations in other countries. In a …

A Palette Of Unconventional Symbolism: Color Imagery In Three Margaret Atwood Novels, Shannon Martin Aug 1995

A Palette Of Unconventional Symbolism: Color Imagery In Three Margaret Atwood Novels, Shannon Martin

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In this thesis, the writer examines the color imagery in three Margaret Atwood novels: Surfacing, Cat's Eye, and The Handmaid's Tale. Atwood uses color in unconventional ways by forcing colors to symbolize the opposite of their common meanings, by allowing colors to represent simultaneously two opposing ideas, and by disregarding traditional color meanings by creating her own unique associations. Atwood's color imagery supports her thematic concerns in that through her themes--as with her use of color--she challenges the reader's expectations by throwing into question many conventional ideas about progress, religion, and the sex-gender system.

The Politics Of Arthurian Legend In The Plantagenet Empire: A Study Of Literary And Historical Sources From The Time Of Henry Ii To Edward I, Laura J. Radiker Jun 1995

The Politics Of Arthurian Legend In The Plantagenet Empire: A Study Of Literary And Historical Sources From The Time Of Henry Ii To Edward I, Laura J. Radiker

Masters Theses

This study looks at both medieval chronicles and romances--the primary sources of Arthurian legend--to seek mutual influences between the politics of the Plantagenet Empire and Arthurian legend. The authors of the works used in this study performed within the sphere of the Plantagenet Empire, during the time period with which this study concerns itself. Secondary sources provide background information, such as the historical, literary, and cultural milieu surrounding the primary works, archaeological and linguistic evidence, and current scholarly debate.

From the evaluation of the primary sources and their historical framework, several aspects of Arthurian legend emerge which have connections with …

From Visiting Scholar To Immigrant: A Memoir, Gustav T. Durrer Jun 1995

From Visiting Scholar To Immigrant: A Memoir, Gustav T. Durrer

Swiss American Historical Society Review

In younger years, with youthful optimism, one tends to project the future on a fairly straight line. Life usually alters that course. Circumstances change, and we change with them. Events in and around us shape our destiny. Roadblocks and crossroads force us to choose an unplanned route. 1939-45 was such a time when many lives were drastically changed, due to the dramatic developments in Europe and the Far East. These events were to alter the course of my life also.
