This study explores costume creation as a narrative-based intervention for integrating "shadow" parts, or aspects of the self that are repressed or alienated due to shame, trauma, or social pressure. Grounded in Jungian analytic psychology, narrative therapy, and expressive arts theory, the research addresses the limitations of traditional talk therapy in accessing somatic memory and proposes costume making as a pathway for externalization and re-authorship. Using a qualitative, participatory study inspired by Pat B. While gender has been largely debunked as a form of performance, biological sex remains an irreducible point of departure. This essay challenges biological sex as a category through the Foucauldian lens of bio-power and technologies of the self. It merges findings from interviews surrounding intersectionally marginalized experiences with menstruation with trans and disability studies. Utilizing Mel Chen’s theory of animacies, and Margrit Shildrick’s human-technology amalgamation theory, this essay blurs the biological-artificial binary. While there are obstacles, limiting what is biologically possible for humans, the body can be significantly augmented through imagination, body modification, and the invention of newly gendered practices.

The Magis Ministry Model addresses the documented decline in youth religious practice by leveraging the high participation rates in secondary school athletics and performing arts. Recognizing that many students struggle to connect faith with what they value, the model embeds lay adult chaplains within teams and troupes to provide a "ministry of accompaniment". Key to this framework are chapel talks—weekly, 15- to 20-minute reflections that invite students to encounter God through their specific craft. Longitudinal data from Saint Ignatius High School demonstrates significant impact:  over 74% of surveyed participants strongly advocate for the program's continuation, and successful head coaches now …

This article investigates the opportunities and challenges of building a dancehall fashion archive with particular emphasis on the transition from the material to the digital. As an artist-scholar, I use my own dancehall fashion collection as a case study to explore the process of digitizing material artifacts (in this case, fashion and textiles). I focus on dancehall fashion in particular because it speaks to themes of resistance, self-fashioning, and creativity in the global fashion market. This paper argues that Christopher Tolkien’s 1950s philological essay “The Battle of the Goths and the Huns” anticipates the editorial principles that later governed his presentation of his father, J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium. Analyzing Christopher’s treatment of early medieval legend alongside his handling of the Celeborn and Galadriel materials, the essay argues that he consistently resisted imposing artificial coherence on fragmentary evidence. The Self-Aware Room (SAR) is a room-scale research environment developed within the larger Balanced Blended Space and Blended Reality Performance System research trajectory. Rather than treating the room as a conventional “smart” environment composed of fixed automation technologies, SAR approaches it as an evolvable blended environment made from physical, virtual, conceptual, sensory, computational, and performative relationships. Its defining feature is not any particular sensor, model, or output device, but the set of transformations through which physical activity becomes structured observation, bounded representation, interpreted state, governed decision, and mediated response.

This study aims to uncover and explain the concept and model of flexibility as a mechanism for the sustainability of folk performing arts amidst conditions of social and cultural change. The study was conducted using an ethnographic approach, based on participatory and collaborative activities within the Turonggo Seto Boyolali group, and supported by data collection techniques including observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. This article presents heuristic inquiry as a form of autoethnography and its potential as a methodological resource for music educators. Rather than reporting findings from a single study, the article illustrates how heuristic inquiry can serve as a structured yet flexible process of critical reflection that helps teachers navigate the cultural and political contexts of their work. Drawing on the author’s experiences as a high school choral director, the discussion highlights the six phases and seven processes of heuristic inquiry, showing how personal reflection, cultural awareness, and relational care can be interwoven into professional practice. This is a standalone work, but it is complementary to the study, “Teacher violence in university music education: An exploration in a Mexican context.” It presents the analysis of emerging information found in 53 stories of victims of teacher violence in university music programs. We incorporated reflections and contributions from students, professionals, and dropouts of music careers in the Mexican Republic, who voluntarily shared their stories. The first category describes the consequences of teacher violence. On one hand, there were effects interpreted as positive, including the activation of achievement orientation, overexertion, and self-demand. It is pointed out that these consequences …

This study examines the strategies employed by Mekkas Laras Art Studio to preserve karawitan music in Pamekasan Regency and identifies the challenges and adaptive responses involved. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the studio's management, instructors, and participants. Data were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal three interrelated processes of karawitan preservation: perception, appreciation, and creation. This study examines the visual representation of Paroots’ “Revolusi Mental” cover artwork, created by Garis Edelweiss, using Roland Barthes’ semiotics and Stuart Hall’s theory of representation. This art creation study explores and transforms the characters of the Pandawa Five into the visual language of batik painting through figures, gestures, attributes, motifs, colors, and composition. The creative process employed Gustami’s method, comprising exploration, design, and realization. Exploration involved examining the characters of the Pandawa, observing batik paintings, interviewing practitioners, and experimenting with colors, followed by the development of alternative designs and their realization using canting and brush-coloring techniques with Remazol dyes. Bullying in educational settings is a social issue that not only affects victims but also generates diverse public responses on social media. This study examines the linguistic forms and pragmatic functions used by netizens in responding to a bullying case at MTs Al Khairaat Sindue through comments on the TikTok account @Inews.com. Family-themed films can represent different parenting styles through communication, behavior, and parent–child relationships. This study aims to analyze the representation of parenting styles in the film Home Sweet Loan. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using dialogue, characters’ actions and expressions, and contextual elements of parent–child interactions as data. The data were collected through repeated viewing and systematic note-taking and were subsequently coded and deductively categorized according to authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful parenting characteristics. The findings reveal three predominant parenting tendencies. This reflective-practice study examines how kapwa and pakikipagkapwa emerged through translation, rehearsal, staging, and reception in three Philippine productions of Samuel Beckett: Endgame (2016), Happy Days (2019), and the devised classroom piece Beckett, Godot & Us Waiting (2023). Using comparative production analysis and a dialogical co-performance orientation drawn from Dwight Conquergood, I analyze rehearsal exercises, adaptation notes, production materials, staging decisions, and remembered performer-audience encounters. This thesis analyzes the impacts of the Indian boarding school era on Menominee people through using St. Joseph’s Indian Industrial School in Keshena, Wisconsin, as a focal point of study. Through analyzing the social and political contexts of the school, oral texts from St. Joseph’s survivors, and contemporary popular culture texts, this thesis examines the intergenerational impacts of the boarding school era on Menominee people and Indigenous people in general.
