The Semantics Of Stress And Pitch In English, George A. Meyer May 1961

The Semantics Of Stress And Pitch In English, George A. Meyer

Faculty Honor Lectures

Have your ears, not to mention your sensibilities, and your reverence for long established familiar rhythms and meanings been quite rudely jolted?

If each individual present here were to read these well-known lines from the printed page, or recite them from memory, I'm sure that you would, in each case, almost invariably reproduce them with the same stress, pitch, and rhythm patterns. Wesley's Thought On Faith And Reason In Christian Redemption, Vernon H. Haas May 1961

Wesley's Thought On Faith And Reason In Christian Redemption, Vernon H. Haas

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Christian theology has always embodied the ideas of faith and reason as basic principles in the concept of Christian redemption. Likewise, human experience daily embraces, revolves around, and finds integration through faith and reason.

The relationship of faith and reason has been much less distinct. Throughout the Christian era a great difference of opinion has existed especially on the relationship of the two ideas in redemption. A Survey Of Some Contemporary Philosophies Of Man, Richard Francis Carroll May 1961

A Survey Of Some Contemporary Philosophies Of Man, Richard Francis Carroll

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "It is the task of Philosophy to answer the basic questions of life. What are we? why are we here? are questions basic to the life of every thinking person.

There is a division of Philosophy which deals specifically with the foregoing questions. That division is known as Metaphysics. Metaphysics deals with the questions of being or nature, man, God, and the world or cosmos. Although the older philosophical divisions have been somewhat modified with recent investigations by the exact sciences, the main divisions within Metaphysics remain the same."

Current Literature: Titles And Abstracts, Catholic Physicians' Guilds

The Linacre Quarterly

The purpose of this department in The Linacre Quarterly is to make available by titular listing such current articles as are thought to be of particular interest to the Catholic physician by virtue of their medical literature although, of necessity, this source is the most fruitful. When abstracts appear, they are intended to reflect the content of the original article. Parenthetical editorial comment may follow the abstract if considered desirable. Contributions from readers are invited.
