Winthrop University Oral History Program

In her June 1984 interview with Michael Cooke, Ellen Mosley detailed her experience working for the James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation and the problems with informing communities of sickle cell anemia. Mosley discussed the problems had with DHEC, funding the foundation, and aiding the communities in the Midlands area. She also discussed possible exploitation of the Black community, stigmas that the Black community had towards sickle cell, and the many misconceptions about sickle cell of all races. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Oral History Program.

In her June 1984 interview with Michael Cooke, Ruth Erline Mathis Martin (1934-2020) discussed her time as a DHEC employee in the sickle cell anemia program. She covered topics of DHEC’s involvement with community groups, sickle cell anemia community groups and their success and failures, and the James R. Clark Sickle Cell Foundation. Winona Campus Life

Winona Campus Life was a weekly laboratory newspaper produced by the WSU Mass Communciation Department students and printed as a supplement to the Sunday Winona Daily News, which began in September 1983. The newspaper provided coverage of the four institutions of higher education in Winona: Winona State University, St. Mary's University, College of Saint Teresa, and Winona Area Vocational-Technical School. It was created to provide a place for Mass Communcation students to publish their articles and photographs with the idea of generating reader feedback, which is essential in journalism education.

Boonshoft School of Medicine Oral History Project

In this first of three interviews, Dr. A.V. Black, former Chairman of the Montgomery County Medical Society and former faculty member of the Community Medicine Department of the Wright State University School of Medicine, discusses his early background and experiences as a physician in the Miami Valley area. He describes his wartime activities and his involvement in the Montgomery County Medical Society.

Dr. Black then discusses briefly the initial reaction of the Medical Society to the invitation of study of the feasibility of establishment of a School of Medicine in Dayton.

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

It was at a church growth conference with Dr. Medford H. Jones that pastors of Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Church began giving serious thought to planting and developing large Friends churches in the Northwest. Jones spoke of other passive or plateaued churches, which became growing, dynamic churches. New hope was conceived for Friends.

Since that first conference, many seminars and church conferences have been held, books have been read and papers have been studied. Churches do not grow simply through prayer, faith and hard work. Through research, study and experience, it has been determined that there are distinct patterns …
