Church Growth At The End Of The Twentieth Century: Recovering Our Purpose, Thom S. Ranier Oct 1995

Church Growth At The End Of The Twentieth Century: Recovering Our Purpose, Thom S. Ranier

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

The thesis of this paper is that a critical element is missing in much of church growth literature and practice today. Furthermore the viability of the movement and the health of churches across our land may very well depend upon our recovery of that missing element. The mysterious missing element is, simply stated, evangelism.

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

ROBERT PAUL LAMB revealingly explores the short story writer's use of compression and exact word choice through examples drawn mainly from Ernest Hemingway. Author of articles on Melville, Whitman, Hemingway, and the film Citizen Kane, and a forthcoming essay on James G. Birney and southern abolitionism, Lamb is Assistant Professor of English at Purdue University. He is currently completing a book-length study of "Hemingway and the Short Story."

RICHARD KOSTELANETZ discusses his innovations in poetic form and content and provides three examples of his work. Widely acclaimed for his explorations in new ways to convey written language, Kostelanetz lives independently …

Change.

For many people, it is the only thing in this world that is really consistent. I am not one of those people, but I do have to admit that a lot of it sure does seem to happen a lot of the time. It happens so fast, on occassion, that nobody can keep up.

Take, for example, what happened this summer. Concordia became a University. The old quarter system was replaced by semesters. Weber Hall was completely and drastically remodeled.

Any one of those changes can be dealt with easily. Some people may even be able to handle two …

Folktales And Reality: The Social Construction Of Race In Chinese Tales, Lily Kong, Elaine Goh Sep 1995

Folktales And Reality: The Social Construction Of Race In Chinese Tales, Lily Kong, Elaine Goh

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

This paper illustrates how folktales are a repository of primary material for the geographer. Using the example of The Strange Tales of Liaozhai, we discuss how these tales are not purely fictive constructs but constitute instead fictive, historical and projected realities. As an example of the value of such analysis, we discuss Chinese constructions of race as revealed in the tales.
