Fred Hampton, Illinois chairman of the Black Panther Party, is dead. So is Panther Mark Clark.

State's Attorney Edwin Hanrahan in a TV interview commended the officers who "bravely and with restraint" participated in the pre-dawn raid on Thursday December 4, when the shoot-out occurred.

Many in Chicago's black community and many whites are convinced that Hanrahan's men murdered Hampton as he slept.

Current Literature: Titles And Abstracts, Catholic Physicians' Guilds

The Linacre Quarterly

The purpose of this department in The Linacre Quarterly is to make available by titular listing such current articles as are thought to be of particular interest to the Catholic physician by virtue of their medical literature although, of necessity, this source is the most fruitful. When abstracts appear, they are intended to reflect the content of the original article. Parenthetical editorial comment may follow the abstract if considered desirable. Contributions from readers are invited.

The History Of The Government Of The City Of Louisville., Attia Martha Bowmer Jun 1948

The History Of The Government Of The City Of Louisville., Attia Martha Bowmer

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Most historical writings on the subject of Louisville have treated its social, political, and economic development, but few have even touched on its municipal government. The purpose of this study is to record the history of the governmental structure of the city of Louisville from 1780 until 1870. It is concerned primarily with the type of government, the sources and extent of its power, and its legislative history. The details of municipal functions and administration are outside the scope of this writing except as they relate, generally or specifically, to the development of the general framework of the city government …

The Growth Of Criminal Law In Ancient Greece, Robert F. Larkin Aug 1933

The Growth Of Criminal Law In Ancient Greece, Robert F. Larkin

Bachelors’ Theses

When I first undertook to write a thesis upon this subject I thought that, since the Greeks were noted for their politics, there would be material aplenty upon the subject of ancient law but I was destined to disappointment. After some study I found that most of the books upon the subject were founded chiefly upon the ancient classics and not upon proven facts. Bearing this thought in mind I set out to discover just how ancient criminal law did evolve and my discoveries are set out in the following pages.

Perhaps the greatest help was the fairly recent book …

The Treatment Of Joan Of Arc In English Literature, Catherine J. Steffan May 1931

The Treatment Of Joan Of Arc In English Literature, Catherine J. Steffan

Bachelors’ Theses

The author has endeavored, in this thesis, to give a brief sketch of the life of that heroic figure of French history, Joan of Arc, and to describe and distinguish her character as portrayed in certain writings of Shakespeare, Thomas De Quincey, Mark Twain, Bernard Shaw and Hilaire Belloc.

Early Constitutional History Of England, James I. Sullivan Jun 1929

Early Constitutional History Of England, James I. Sullivan

Bachelors’ Theses

I have endeavored in writing this thesis to keep in view the needs of the students of Marquette University. I have omitted details and facts of history due to the fact that they belong to the historical rather than the constitutional development of English history. I have also tried to keep this selection to a period which is relatively short in the constitutional history of England namely the Anglo Saxon period and the Anglo Norman period until the rise of the barons in the latter part of the twelfth century.

The chapters are concerned with the institutions of general government …

Craniotomy And Abortion Are Moral And Social Evils, Alvin Ralph Kutschera May 1925

Craniotomy And Abortion Are Moral And Social Evils, Alvin Ralph Kutschera

Bachelors’ Theses

An artificial division of arguments has "been essayed in this thesis for two external reasons: physicians and physicians. The physician performing craniotomy adopts the operation as the last resort in a "bad case, when death is imminent whereas the abortionist operates for many and sundry reasons, some good and many bad, base, and criminal. The two types of operators being entirely different, the operations they perform have been kept apart, tho craniotomy and direct abortion are direct attacks upon the life of the fetus, and an argument against one is a lance in the side of the other.

Legislation By The Courts, W. G. Hastings Jan 1914

Legislation By The Courts, W. G. Hastings

Mid-West Quarterly (1913–1918)

It is remarkable that in this second century of the republic our courts should be so vehemently assailed for interference in legislation. One who knew of our duplex governments only by study of their written constitutions would open his eyes when told that there is any such thing under them as legislation by the courts. The citizen of Nebraska lives under a constitution which devotes an entire article to declaring, not only that the executive, legislative, and judicial departments of its state government are and must be kept distinct, but that no person in anyone of them, except as specially …
