Maternal Employment As A Positive Reaction To The Situation Of Anomie, Betty Jean Sundberg Jan 1972

Maternal Employment As A Positive Reaction To The Situation Of Anomie, Betty Jean Sundberg

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects

In 1964, a doctoral dissertation was written on the subject of maternal employment in relation to the structural state of anomie. The present study has attempted to duplicate the essential material to determine if the hypothesis presented would hold up under further investigation. Essentially, the hypothesis proposed was "employment is seen as a purposeful and ordered alternative for women to the state of anomie." The definition of anomie was taken from the concept developed by Merton, and more particularly, Durkheim as a state existent in the structure of a society; the normless situation that develops when there are no values …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

WE BEGIN this thirteenth year of THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY with an October number devoted to the most current of topics, among them such challenging and perhaps determining issues as the outcome of the Strategic Arms Limitations Talks between the U.S. S. R. and the United States and the related struggle of Western Europe to achieve strength by unification. Turning our attention to more specifically national interests, we discuss changing attitudes toward the economics of the Welfare State, the mindless sloganeering of Right and Left, and the problems of decision-making with respect to our environment. On a lighter note, but depressing …

A Controlled-Interview Study: The Philosophy And Practice Of Chaplain's Services In Four Selected Seventh-Day Adventist Hospitals In Southern California, Richard Huei-Ying Liu

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

It was the purpose of this paper to attempt an understanding of the chaplain's role on the health team, both in the United States and in the Far East, in light of research conducted in four specific Seventh-day Adventist Hospitals: the Glendale Adventist Hospital, the Loma Linda University Medical Center, the Paradise Valley Adventist Hospital, and the White Memorial Medical Center.

Before attempting any field research in the area of chaplaincy, I felt I must understand to some degree the general under lying philosophy of this profession. Thus, both the published and unpublished works of leaders in the field were …
