Chester News 1922
The Chester News was a semi-weekly, later weekly continuation of the Semi-Weekly News established in 1913. The name changed to the Chester News in September 1917 retaining the number sequence of the Semi-Weekly News. In 1917 it was a semi-weekly Democrat newspaper. About 1942, it became a weekly paper. W. Ward Pegram and Stewart L. Cassells were the owner/publishers. W. Ward Pegram, Jr. took ownership after his father’s death and published the paper until September 1971 when it merged with the Chester Reporter to form the News and Reporter which is still in publication.

The 1921 meeting of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association took place at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC. The introductory sermon was delivered by W. G. Camp. The Home Mission report indicated that the church in Cuba has made progress towards self-support. Soldiers and Seamen still has a great need for missionary effort. Foreign Missions reported that Baptists met at the Longdon Conference of July 1920 to discuss spreading the Gospel in Europe. The Boiling Springs High School Board of Trustees reported that electric lights have been installed in the school buildings. The Gaston County Association is still considering …

Kings Mountain Baptist Association Minute Books
The 1920 meeting of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association took place at Ross Grove Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. The introductory sermon was delivered by J. M. Kester. Plans were made to raise money for the new Boiling Springs Memorial Building. The Special Committee on Evangelistic Work recommends that the Association's churches form groups that will hold meetings and create Mobile Schools to help plan evangelism activities. The Women's Missionary Union endorsed the movement to build a hospital in Cleveland County.

The Committee on Women's Work reports that the Women's Missionary Union has been existence for thirty years and continues to grow. The Committee on Obituaries reports the passing of R.N. Hawkins, a Confederate solider and longtime pastor who served in Cleveland, Gaston, and Rutherford counties.

The Boiling Springs High School Annual Report indicated that the school is now debt free. The Committee on Baptist Orphanage mentioned the importance of remembering the children who reside in the orphanages during the war efforts.
