Formation Of Ideas, Clarence Tennessen

Bachelors’ Theses

MAN! What a masterpiece of creation! What a wonder of wonders! In composition how harmonious, how singular! Regarded from merely a mechanical viewpoint, the human body is so infinitely complex, so harmonious, so responsive, so delicate and yet so powerful, that all wonders of nature dwarf in comparison. Our huge buildings and beautiful edifices all fade into insignificance when compared to that edifice of Man. The charming splendor and thrilling beauty of nature, of her snowcapped mountains, her warbling streams, her thundering falls and her mighty canyons that defy description, grow placid when compared to Man. Thus, Man stands alone.

Epicureanism In The Georgics, Ruth Agnes Crawford

Bachelors’ Theses

Vergil, the Latin poet who has had more influence on literature throughout the ages than any other Latin writer, was born in 70 B.C . He lived during the reign of Augustus Caesar, which was a time of peace and great prosperity. Augustus, in furtherance of his country's prosperity, encouraged literature and raised it to a standard previously unknown in Roman history. Vergil, then, wrote under very favorable circumstances. This era which produced so much culture fostered three philosophies which naturally influenced all the writers of the time. It is only reasonable to suppose that Vergil was affected by one …

The Use Of The Chemico-Pathology Laboratory In The Dental Clinic, Matilda Mary Steinbrecher Jan 1928

The Use Of The Chemico-Pathology Laboratory In The Dental Clinic, Matilda Mary Steinbrecher

Bachelors’ Theses

The reason why the practice of dentistry is sometimes criticized to-day is because it was separated from the practice of medicine at a time when mouth disorder as a cause of systemic disease was not recognized, and mechanical restoration of teeth was made the foundation of dentistry. The keynote in judging a man's ability was by the expertness of his mechanical skill. This attitude toward dentistry, not only by the medical men but by the laity as well, has been a regrettable weakness in the dental profession. The dentist's work was regarded as entirely mechanical and for the purpose of …

The Morality Of Nationalism, John Ambrose Walsh Jun 1927

The Morality Of Nationalism, John Ambrose Walsh

Bachelors’ Theses

A few short years ago the world was suffering from the most brutal and destructive war it had ever known. We had boasted of our civilization; we had attempted to establish a tribunal for world peace; we had talked of settling differences by means of arbitration. Meanwhile every European nation (and some non-European nations) were girding themselves for war and increasing their armament. School books were lauding national heroes to the skies and painting patriots of other nations in blackest hue. Germans were singing "Deutschland Uber Alles", and English were singing "Rule Brittania". Germany, Austria, and Italy had one secret …

Fantasy In Shakespeare, Barrie And Yeats, Dorothy Anne Dawe

Bachelors’ Theses

Shakespeare, Barrie and Yeats. What a diversity of thoughts and ideas their manes present. Each ts a genius, and each is different from the other, for geniuses are never like any other people. Each has become a literary success through a different media. And yet they are alike in one respect. They all possess that quality of "Fantasy". They have each inculcated that spirit into their works, and hence are kindred in one respect at least.

Mysticism In The Metaphysical School Of Poets, Jessie Donaldson Corrigan Jun 1927

Mysticism In The Metaphysical School Of Poets, Jessie Donaldson Corrigan

Bachelors’ Theses

In the desire to transcend the physical world, men of every age have set foot upon the "Mystic Way". This desire, which is a thing internal and intuitive, has been called the "instinct for transcendence." Once upon the mystic way, "the wistful eyes of Life are set towards a vision that is also a Home - a Home from which news can reach us now and again."
