Political Contacts Or The Hebrews With Assyria And Babylonia, Alex Heidel
Political Contacts Or The Hebrews With Assyria And Babylonia, Alex Heidel
Concordia Theological Monthly
Ancient Palestine served as a bridge over which passed traders and armies from Egypt on the one hand and from Babylonia and Assyria on the other; and thus the Hebrews repeatedly came in contact with the peoples of the Nile and of the Tigris-Euphrates. These contacts were chiefly of a political, commercial, social, and religious nature. In the present paper it is not our aim to offer a comprehensive treatment of all of them; we shall rather turn aside from all the other phases and focus our attention on the political relations of God's chosen race with the people of …

Comparison Of The Aeneid And Paradise Lost, Ruth M. Oehler
Comparison Of The Aeneid And Paradise Lost, Ruth M. Oehler
Bachelors’ Theses
In this thesis an attempt has been made to trace some of the direct influences of Virgil's great epic upon Milton's Paradise Lost. The general similarities of the two poets and their principal works together with their similar classical pictures, the borrowings of Milton from Virgil's classical Mythology, and, most important, the plan of the two poems in relation to the forms of a good epic, were used as convenient points of division. An attempt was made to prove these points of similarity by direct quotations from both poets.

The Ab Urbe Condita Construction In Latin, Otto William Heick
The Ab Urbe Condita Construction In Latin, Otto William Heick
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
That type of the participial construction which has been the main object of the present investigation is known among English-speaking scholars by the name of the "ab urbe candita construction." This designation is derived from one of the outstanding examples of the type of expression in view. Ab urbe candita, "from the year of the founding of the city": thus the Romans were accustomed to reckon their chronology. The current name of this syntactical phenomenon, which is at once too vague and too narrow, might be misleading. The field of the construction is limited neither to a prepositional …

Tipos Y Costumbres Satirizados En Los Sueños De Quevedo, Mary G. Phillips
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
