The Unity Of Thought And Structure In The Confessions Of St. Augustine, Mary Seneca Kane
The Unity Of Thought And Structure In The Confessions Of St. Augustine, Mary Seneca Kane
Bachelors’ Theses
A unique and imperishable record of St. Augustine's lite and thought is found in his "Confessions", the date of which ls placed approximately in the year 400 A. D. At this time he was bishop of Hippo and some thirteen years of study and Christian experience had been added to his life since his conversion. Concerning this work of his st. Augustine himself says, "The books of my Confession, both in my evil and in my good things praise God, ever just and ever good and raise up towards Him the understand1ng and affection of man. At least to myself, …
Problem Solving, Catherine Ryan
Problem Solving, Catherine Ryan
Bachelors’ Theses
"A first principle of curriculum determination in arithmetic is: Teach what is useful to average citizens in the everyday affairs of life." This principle is not the only dominating factor. Almost every curriculum has specifics placed there by tradition and speculation. There is considerable uncertainty as to what is useful, and what is not practical. The principle of social utility seems to be gaining prominence. Attempts to discover the 'real' use of arithmetic are being conducted.
The Teaching Of Language In The Elementary School, Estelle Sayle
The Teaching Of Language In The Elementary School, Estelle Sayle
Bachelors’ Theses
Language is the one universal means of expressing human thought and reeling, and the strongest bond of human fellowship. It is man's most effective agent in business, his neediest resources for pleasure, his most sympathetic medium of comfort and consolation, his most stimulating spur of aspiration and ambition and his best aid to the higher achievement of intellect.
A Study Of "Konigliche Hoheit" -- Thomas Mann, Anne Marie Druml
A Study Of "Konigliche Hoheit" -- Thomas Mann, Anne Marie Druml
Bachelors’ Theses
The object of my thesis is to study Konigliche Hoheit and through it come to a knowledge of the personality and character of the writer. In the first chapter I have discussed his life and his works and the second, third and fourth chapters are devoted to a study of the "Konigliche Hoheit". My intention is first to give the content of the novel and then follow it up by a criticism of character - and in this the reader can obtain a clear notion of the attributes of Mann's writings as well as his understanding of human emotions. The …
An Historic Account Of Music Criticism And Music Critics In Utah, Basil Hansen
An Historic Account Of Music Criticism And Music Critics In Utah, Basil Hansen
Theses and Dissertations
My purpose in making a study of music criticism in Utah is to realize a reliable historical account of criticism as expressed by means of journals and the growth of music within the state. This study, it is granted, is not a complete history of music in Utah. It merely treats one phase of a yet unwritten history.
A secondary interest is to defend the assertion that Utah has had music criticism and not to eulogize or deride the music pioneers of the state. It may also impress the need of constructive criticism to insure the stimulus and incentive necessary …

Leisure And Reading, Pauline Stemmler
Leisure And Reading, Pauline Stemmler
Bachelors’ Theses
Our pleasures are no longer those of our forefathers. With the advent of the motor car, the plane, the radio, and innumerable other modern inventions, life for us has taken on a new aspect. Ours is no longer a day of endless toil and struggle. The hardships of pioneer days have come to an end. Ours is a modern civilization, where machinery and manifold labor-saving devices have made possible shorter working hours and a greater margin for leisure, thus leaving time for play and for the pursuits of individual interests. The increased leisure may be an important contribution to a …
The Intellectual And Social Achievements During The Age Of Louis Xiv, William M. Bell
The Intellectual And Social Achievements During The Age Of Louis Xiv, William M. Bell
Bachelors’ Theses
History is primarily a cultural study of events, characters and movements that have taken place during the ages. The purpose of this study, however, is not to memorize dates of particular events or characters but to view it with a study from a philosophical view point. Various ages are outstanding in European history in which man has been politically, socially, and intellectually benefited, therefore we make special mention of the Seventeenth Century in which the Age of Louis XlV is characteristic. Due to the policies of Devine Right advocated by Mazarin and Richelieu, Louis XlV was able to rule as …
