Holiness And The Greek Tongue, Newton Wray Jan 1930

Holiness And The Greek Tongue, Newton Wray

Books by Taylor faculty, staff, and administrators

The advent of Jesus Christ occurred at a date described as "the fulness of time," signifying not only an hour for the fulfillment of prophecy but also that providential preparation which predisposed to the reception of Christianity and facilitated its spread among men.

The factors in this preparation may be included under four general heads:

1. The moral state of the world.
2. The Roman Empire.
3. The Greek language.
4. The location of Jewish Synagogues everywhere.

The History Of The Evolution Of Shorthand, Selma O. Preuss Jun 1929

The History Of The Evolution Of Shorthand, Selma O. Preuss

Bachelors’ Theses

One manifestation of man's superiority over the rest of the animal kingdom consists in the power of communicating thought by means of speech. At first when all mankind dwelt together, a spoken language was sufficient to meet the demands. When, however, the human race began to disperse over the earth, another means of communication was found necessary. Consequently, the art of writing was introduced, crude at first, but gaining in ease, grace, and speed through the ages, until it reached the acme of its perfection. To the literary art the whole commonwealth of other arts must bow down am resign …

The Virgin Birth Of Christ, Edgar Reinhold Pflug May 1929

The Virgin Birth Of Christ, Edgar Reinhold Pflug

Bachelor of Divinity

It shall be our object to trace the history of the controversy over this doctrine from its very beginnings to the present time; to state briefly and to refute the arguments of the opposition; and finally to search out the true Biblical version of the Lord’s birth, of which we are confident that it will also be the view upheld by the Lutheran Church from its very inception.

The Development Of English Grammar From 1750 To 1929, Helen Kathryn Walsh May 1929

The Development Of English Grammar From 1750 To 1929, Helen Kathryn Walsh

Bachelors’ Theses

For some time I have been interested in the subject of Grammar. A generation ago, it was considered one of the most important subjects in the elementary schools. But now, grammar is a thing one teaches only incidentally. What has brought this change? What is the situation to-day? What may we hope for in the future? These are some of the questions which need to be answered. The pendulum has indeed swung far out into empty space. It surely must return. Will we be able to stop it midway in its course?

Social Forces In Ludwig Anzengruber's Dramas, Theodore Charly Jun 1928

Social Forces In Ludwig Anzengruber's Dramas, Theodore Charly

Bachelors’ Theses

In view of the fact that the various phases of life and culture of a people are reflected in its literature, the criterion upon which a correct and complete evaluation of any literary writer in any epoch is based must necessarily include the degree of truthfulness with which that epoch is represented in his works. Conversely, one of the essential prerequisites of a true and complete evaluation of the literary product-s of a writer is the study of the epoch in which his works were created, and of the problems which confronted this epoch. Such study is of even greater …

Lessons To Be Learnt From The History And Development Of The Halle-Leipzig Mission In India, H Earl Miller Apr 1928

Lessons To Be Learnt From The History And Development Of The Halle-Leipzig Mission In India, H Earl Miller

Bachelor of Divinity

We may, without doing violence to truth, speak of the unbroken continuity of the Halle-Leipzig mission from the days of Ziegenbalg down to the present time, a period of 222 years. In more than one respect, this mission has been the outstanding force in the history of missionary endeavor in India, and we may well expect to profit from an examination of its history and development.

Alsace-Lorraine Controversy, Edward S. Mcgarty Jun 1927

Alsace-Lorraine Controversy, Edward S. Mcgarty

Bachelors’ Theses

Alsace-Lorraine has long been a bone of contention. In the numerous conflicts of the contending parties, the lands and possessions of these unhappy provinces were repeatedly subjected to destruction or pillage, and the pop-to all the violence of warfare, with the inevitable result that the social intellectual, and the industrial development of the country, rich as it is in natural resources and favored in its geographical position and configuration has been seriously hampered. With such salient features and barriers as the Rhine on the one hand and the Vosges Mountains on the other, the Alsace-Lorraine territory has constituted a border …

A Critique Of Goodspeed's Translation Of The Gospels, Arthur F. Fergin May 1927

A Critique Of Goodspeed's Translation Of The Gospels, Arthur F. Fergin

Bachelor of Divinity

In the execution of this treatise the translation of Goodspeed will be studied on the basis of the original Greek text. The critique will thus seek to establish whether the translation is true to the original. Since no other translation has till now successfully supplanted the Authorized Version, the later will be used in establishing the conclusions reached in this thesis. It is necessary to state at the outset, however, that such a procedure will not in all cases be fair to the translation of Goodspeed. Goodspeed has a better equipment in the way of an authoritative text and grammatical …

The Aramaisms In The Psalms, J Henry Gienapp May 1927

The Aramaisms In The Psalms, J Henry Gienapp

Bachelor of Divinity

The above title suggests in a general way the topic to be considered. Naturally a subject of this kind permits varied treatment. The philologist, the grammarian, the exegete - each, guided by his peculiar interest, will present the matter in such a manner as to lay emphasis on that phase of the topic which to his mind is most essential. To us, also, this subject is of a special interest. We are concerned with the Aramaisms in the Psalms as evidence of their date of composition. We are interested in finding out what part Aramaisms play in fixing the date …
