Intertextual And Interlinguistic Approaches To Agnon's Writing, Ken Frieden Jan 1988

Intertextual And Interlinguistic Approaches To Agnon's Writing, Ken Frieden

Religion - All Scholarship

While previous critics have raised the question of outside
influences upon Agnon, his fiction has seldom been read in
connection with contemporary views of intertextuality. Agnon
specialists might learn from the theories of Harold Bloom, for
example, as they are set forth in The Anxiety of Influence
and A Map of Misreading. This article will provide
specific examples of intertextual and interlinguistic reading,
applied to Agnon's "Panim Aherot" and ul'Veit Abba", and suggest
the broader significance of these approaches.

Judgment And Grace In The Wilderness Narratives, Martin Buerger May 1983

Judgment And Grace In The Wilderness Narratives, Martin Buerger

Doctor of Theology Dissertation

It is ultimately the inclusion of the of Yahweh’s love toward Israel in the wilderness, and the contrasting judgment in times that closely parallel the saving acts, which prompt this study. In Lutheran terms this is known as gospel and law theology. The covenant made at Sinai seemingly distinguishes the way Yahweh approaches his people, and separates the narratives. The pre-Sinai narratives accentuate the gracious acts of Yahweh and the post-Sinai narratives emphasize his judgment and punishment. Considering this difference, the question is asked whether the murmurings of the people are the focal point for studies, as the emphases of …

Chosen People, S. Eugene Needham May 1981

Chosen People, S. Eugene Needham

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This thesis is an explanation of the artist's philosophy of art and religion which brought him to complete the specific paintings prepared for his graduate show. The paintings are of a generally religious nature, painted for the artist's private enjoyment and need for individual expression. The artist, admiring the achievements of Christian Art and wanting to add his statement, has researched related areas of thought to support his beliefs in life's ultimate considerations. Within the scope of the artist's ability he has produced a limited vision of Christian subjects with hopefully original Mormon-Hebraic overtones. The thesis also develops a theoretical …

Review Of Hillbilly Women By Kathy Kahn, The Feminist Press Apr 1974

Review Of Hillbilly Women By Kathy Kahn, The Feminist Press

Women's Studies Quarterly

HILLBILLY WOMEN by Kathy Kahn (Doubleday, 1973: $7.95) "tells what it means to be a woman when you are poor, when you are proud, and when you are a hillbilly." This book focuses on women who are usually left out of feminist discussions of oppression: poor and working class white women who live in the Southern Mountain region.
