Our Common Confession And Its Implications For Today, Robert Bertram Nov 1968

Our Common Confession And Its Implications For Today, Robert Bertram

Concordia Theological Monthly

What is it that our confession, or rather the God we confess, is revolutionizing? What is He overturning and replacing? Our sin with His righteousness? Yes, but not only that. Our old world with His new world? That too, but not only that. The tyrants and principalities of this age with His new age? Not even only that. What He is replacing is His own old order - old, yet truly His.

Milton And Cambridge : A New Look At An Old Attitude, Roy S. Riner Aug 1968

Milton And Cambridge : A New Look At An Old Attitude, Roy S. Riner

Master's Theses

From the insights cleaned from current research into John Milton's years as an undergraduate and a graduate student at Cambridge University, this writer has found an overwhelming amount of material dedicated to pointing out Milton's total lack of affection for that university. For the most part, those statements bearing on Milton's dislike for Cambridge are unequivocal. For example, one scholar has remarked that John Milton departed from the University in 1632 "weary and disguised" with the medieval, unbearable antiquated methods of the place. That same scholar continues with the statement that Milton's attitude toward Cambridge was "uniformly unfriendly" and that …

Myth And Transcendence In Plato, Sandra Marie Schneiders Jul 1968

Myth And Transcendence In Plato, Sandra Marie Schneiders

Jesuit School of Theology

Plato is undoubtedly the greatest myth-maker in the history of philosophy and perhaps, with the exception of Dante, the greatest myth-maker in all of history. But Plato's myths present problems which Dante's Divina Commedia does not, for myth is certainly a legitirnate element in poetry and the Divina Commedia, whatever its philosophical or theological significance, is, first and forernost, poetry. The dialogues of Plato, however, whatever their poetic valence (and it is admittedly great), are first and forernost philosophical discourse. Although scholars disagree profoundly on the rneaning of the Platonic myths, they agree that these rnyths are not literary devices …

The Cartography Of New Mexico, 1541-1800, Michael F. Weber Jun 1968

The Cartography Of New Mexico, 1541-1800, Michael F. Weber

History ETDs

This study of the history of cartography of New Mexico is not simply a description of sequences of changes in maps depicting New Mexico. It is also a study of the influences upon the cartographers of the period and the sources of information available to them. Maps were rarely made for cartographical purposes alone. There were many reasons for producing maps: profit, to prove political points, to show cause for invasion, indicating the need for more troops or a different settlement pattern, the list could go on indefinitely. The difference in purpose naturally influence the content of the final product. …
