The Perfectionist Standard : Reading And Study In The Oneida Community, Constance Noyes Robertson Jan 1971

The Perfectionist Standard : Reading And Study In The Oneida Community, Constance Noyes Robertson

The Courier

" ... Here is a man who interrogates the squirrels and trees to some purpose, who does not deal with 'hearsay and old clothes. Undoubtedly, Walden is the most original, sincere and unaffected book recently issued from the press. It is woody, resinous and strong with ground-smell. There are none of the scents of roses, pinks and violets in it." This, after a long deliberation, was the opinion of the Oneida Communists concerning a famous contemporary. They published the review ten years late, in the Community Circular for March 11 th, 1864. Characteristically, they added a retroactive self-criticism. "Ten years …

Consideration Of Macro-Climatic And Macro-Biotic Change In The Ozark Highlands During Post-Glacial Times, Kenneth W. Cole Jan 1971

Consideration Of Macro-Climatic And Macro-Biotic Change In The Ozark Highlands During Post-Glacial Times, Kenneth W. Cole

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

Climatological, pedological and faunal investigations conducted in the Upper Midwest and the Ozark Highlands indicate that the environment to which man in the Ozarks was adapting over the past 12,000 years has undergone several major shifts, beginning with a cool-moist boreal forest situation followed by a period of warming and aridness resulting in prairie and deciduous forest climaxes and subsequently, in the last 4000-5000 years, change to the pattern reflected by present conditions.

The Southern Attitude Towards Texas, 1844-1846, Kenneth H. Clevenger Jan 1971

The Southern Attitude Towards Texas, 1844-1846, Kenneth H. Clevenger

Honors Theses

The purpose of this paper is to study the Southern attitude towards Texas between 1844 and 1846. To understand the range of Southern opinions it is necessary to realize that Texas was a political issue in national affairs at this time, and national politics were extremely fractious during this era. Both Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun had a hand in the in the controversy as did the lesser luminaries of the day, Presidents John Tyler, James K. Polk and Martin Van Buren. Because some national overview is vital for a proper perspective on the problem, the first section of …

A Study To Determine Duplication, Gaps, Emphasis, And Location Of Lesson Concepts In The 1967-68 Religious Education Lesson Manuals For High School Age Lds Youth, Lowry K. Flake

Theses and Dissertations

This study is an examination, in terms of critical areas identified by correlation, of the 1967-68 lesson manuals prepared for high school age LDS youth by the teaching organizations of the Church responsible for implementing a correlated religious education program for this age group.

Major findings center around the answers to the questions formulated to limit and analyze the problem of this study, and were obtained by examining the lesson manuals and identifying the major themes or concepts contained in them. These findings indicate: (1) that duplication or repetition of gospel concepts does exist in the lesson materials, (2) that …

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

Analysis of Middle-earth’s environmental equivalents to our world, by climate and dominant vegetation. Notes that Tolkien’s descriptions of the ecology of his Secondary World must be based on “years of close and thoughtful observation of nature”—particularly when describing transitions from one ecological niche to another. Concludes with an “ecological report” on Middle-earth. Covers geography, geology, and plant life in great detail.

The Cluniac Reform, 910-1157, With Special Emphasis On The Development Of The Cluniac Order, Wallace Behrhorst

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this paper is to give the history of the development of the monastery of Cluny with special emphasis on the development of the Cluniacs as an Order. For that reason .the paper will not cover the entire fie1d of Cluniac history and influence. To give a complete study of the topic would involve a study of fields beyond the scope and purpose of the present work. The author would propose other phases that would prove quite fruitful for further work.
