CGU MFA Theses
My works are autobiographical. In them I explore the unconscious and conscious aspects of my life as a heterosexual cis female. My works function as a form of journaling. The repetition of lines, stitches, and patterns stand in for the repetition of different tasks. I try to submerge the onlooker into my emotional experiences through the use of pop culture references and familiar materials and objects. The inadequacy of life and lack of fulfillment has led to the creation of chromatic spaces. Pieces are void and then filled with silent moments. The quiet restlessness of inner turmoils combined with the …

Journal of Al-Azhar University – Gaza (Humanities)

On The Aesthetics Of The Inner Rhythm Of The Folk Poem's Music, Ali Bollnwar
Jerash for Research and Studies Journal مجلة جرش للبحوث والدراسات
The popular poetry has already contained the essential musical quality which could be perceived. Through the internal rythm , the fact which reflects the reality of the psychological and aesth etic experience of the poet . Thus , we can say that music in general is no longer a mere acoustic effect that would temperarily appeal to the ear then fade away ; but it has be-come a kind of a psychological and aesthetic print that would penetrate deep in the heart of the receiver so as to move him gently and smoothly.

Warrior Mothers: Narratives Of Women From The United Liberation Front Of Assam (Ulfa), Munmi Pathak
Journal of International Women's Studies
The archetype of the mother is always perceived as ‘pacifist’ in war and conflict situations. However, there are numerous examples when mothers are not ‘pacifist’ but become participants and perpetrators of war. This article, through the analysis of the experiences of the mothers in the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), an armed nationalist organization waging war against the Indian nation-state to establish ‘sovereignty’ and ‘liberate’ Assam since1979, argues that mothers can also be warriors, going beyond their ‘pacifist’ archetype. With the analysis of the oral narratives of the women cadres of the organization, this article discusses how these mothers …

As a result, we designed this survey to better understand the effects of stress and acculturation on the self-rated health of the Arab-American community. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using a convenience sample, we surveyed 142 self-identified Arab Americans regarding demographics, stress, acculturation, and self-rated health. Stress was measured using instruments assessing perceived stress, everyday discrimination, and acculturative stress. Acculturation was measured using a modified Vancouver Index of Acculturation. To measure self-rated health, participants were …
The Violent Fecundity Of Mohja Kahl's Translingual Texts, Rachel Norman
The Violent Fecundity Of Mohja Kahl's Translingual Texts, Rachel Norman
Faculty Publications
From publisher: "Scholars writing on US multiethnic literature have described the inclusion of "foreign" languages in fiction as a method for reclaiming power by making the subject impassable, unknowable, or opaque to the monolingual reader. However, these analyses have focused on the incommensurate positions of linguistic insiders and outsiders. This essay contends that Arab American authorMohja Kahfdelivers an alternate ideology in hertranslingualtexts. Writing in a national context that conflates "Arab," "Muslim," and "terrorist" and that uses Arabic as a cultural symbol to denote all three, Kahf employs an aesthetic paradigm to teach her monolingual English-speaking readers Arabic. In doing so, …

From Roundabout To Roundabout: Tahrir Square (1869- 2021), Mariam Abdelazim
Dissertations
Tahrir Square not only represents a symbol of liberation but also reflects the modern history of Egypt. Its several physical changes signify the rise and fall of the monarchy, colonialism, modernism, nationalism, capitalism, echoing a constantly changing definition of the Egyptian public space. And while the surrounding façades physically define the square, either the authorities or the public control its activities.
Khedive Ismail founded the square around 1869 as a roundabout on his “Paris along the Nile” modern city. Between 1882 and 1947, the site became the barracks’ location for the British troops who colonized Egypt. In 1952, an Egyptian …

Pathways Of Herminutical Evolution In Modern Western Thought, أوريدة عبود
Jerash for Research and Studies Journal مجلة جرش للبحوث والدراسات
This research aims to illuminate the term hermeneutics, which was closely related to interpretation in Western thought, as well as highlighting the most important paths of its development, starting with "Schleiermacher", which confirmed that the hermapnoteka is a way to reveal the structure of descriptive internal texts and their cognitive function and search for the facts contained therein. It is suggested that a note of interpretation be the basis for the interpretation of all forms of writing in the humanities based on a methodology that moves from understanding specific specific texts to interpretation of all texts. While Heidegger sees that …

If Pragmatism is an in-depth knowledge of the components of the discourse process, through knowledge of the methods and mechanisms by which sayings are formulated and interpreted, and if language is a key element in forming discourse to achieve communication. The biggest challenge facing Pragmatism is describing the process of interpretation, adjusting concepts, and defining the mechanisms to reach the intention of communicating any saying, and among these concepts the implications of saying.
Since the discourse was originally conducted through linguistic and non-linguistic elements, the efforts of the Pragmatic researchers were distributed in order to create general laws for …

The Holy Quran is an eternal Godsend miracle which has baffled even the ancient Arabs as specialists in eloquence where they found it impossible to replicate any single verse in it in terms of its Purity, Perfections, and Marvels. Since the Quran is a miracle of the Creator, it is believed by Muslims that these miracles in the Holy Quran will last till Allah enforces his judgment on Earth. God has intended for the Quran to be the righteous Doctrine to which our lives would conform and be straightened up by. It is a comfort to the hearts of Muslims, …

A Sign Indicator In The Diwan Of "Zenjabil" By Othman Loucif, سعدية ستيتي
Jerash for Research and Studies Journal مجلة جرش للبحوث والدراسات
There is no doubt that the key to any text is its title, and the title is the compressed text that speaks for the entire text, and sometimes the title is synonymous with the text. The title can only be a sign if the text touches on its most important citizen and its deep, basic and sub-connotations.
From this vision, this research studies the titles in the collection of poems entitled “zenjabil” (ginger) by the Algerian poet “Othmane Loucif” to show the relationship between the title of poems and the extent to which the poet succeeded in choosing the title …
